Every spare minute spent on that mini! ……eventually, it was mint!… I was so proud……. Long story short, it sat in the corner of the workshop. Kept asking when the bloke was coming for this beautiful car. He will he said. Went for my driving test, passed, came back to work, and Mum n Dad were sat in the office, said well done, and Dad said here! I really needed someone out there to say "If I don't see it, I don't care" when it comes to rust repairs. For so many years I've been surrounded by perfectionistas who wanted me to do factory-style rust repairs on inner fenders etc. All it did was keep me from doing it, because I "didn't wanna do it wrong." I realized these people wanted me to restore the car for THEM not ME. Thankfully, now I can live by The Polebarn Garage Creed and make my old car driveable and fun...for ME. Cheers Dalton!!

Reminder: more things than mouse [bleep] can [bleep] with your lungs [JD needs a Dad]. 2. I know you don't have one, but an Acetylene outfit lets you "plate" thin metal with brass - great for windshield channels (hint, hint) - and it heats up [bleep] a treat when you're trying to remove it - like EVERYTHING! Love this video. Very relatable to things I have done in the past. With cars of the same vintage. When they were 7 years old. In New England - in the 'Bad Old Salt Days' where lasting 5-7 years )(never mind 20) was a MAJOR 'win'.

Excellent Dalton! Watching you, Slick at OK Speed and Custom, and Scott at Cold War Motors make a guy think he should try again at my inept body work. And you are so right about why they charge you. Years ago, I took an autobody course at a junior college. They had a program where they would buy insurance totals repair collision damage, repair the mechanical stuff, sell the car and buy another one. The students got the experience, and the buyers got refurbished cars. The instructor gave me a twisted VW bug fender from the scrap barrel to metal finish. Like a dark ages witchfinder I beat the Hell out that thing until it was oil-canning. The instructor had me get out the torch and start the shrinking process. I finally got the fender nice, straight and flat after hours of metal finishing with pick hammer, the body files and half a bottle of acetylene. Those body guys earn their pay.

OH MAN!!! This vid SAVED my truck. When I started my project, I thought it was gonna be simply paint, a little sanding, prime, paint. Well not exactly. The reason I had such optimistic visions, was because 10 years ago a shop had touched up the body and painted it. They did a bad job!!! So this time, I was gonna do it myself (rolling eyes.) Its an 86 k10 so I must have not gotten the memo about watching for rust, so the rust got me. The Rad support was GONE. It came out in pieces. Then some rust, some with holes, here and there. Fender well rear flares, on the box, had rust and when I ground the rust off, HOLES. Haven't found any panels for the box wheel fender rear flares, so I did the next best thing, FIBERGLAS. I tell you, I became a sculpturer with the death wheel to form that flare "JUST RIGHT". (BOTH SIDES!) You don't know where you are going until you jump into one of these projects. I can't tell you how many times I came back to a Dalton vid for "SUPPORT" and strength to continue. Pole Barn Vids and the guest stars, JD, JESSIE, Jim, Cory and all the rest make these vids the ones to watch. The people in the vids are fun and entertaining and they turn a bad car around to be an eye catcher. I expect my truck to be mostly done in a week, absolutely fabulous. Thanks to Daltons "GOOD ENOUGH" policy to see me through. And all my work is done outside. I dont have a $5.00 pole barn like Dalton has. He is so lucky, lol. For those of you that have not used POR15, let me fill you in a bit. When you are applying POR15, you cover the garage floor or the driveway. You get POR15 on concrete, it does not come off. You wear OLD CLOTHES, just like concrete, POR15 wont come out of clothes. Wear rubber gloves, or you will wear the POR15 for at least a week. You wont be cleaning your brush. that's a given. When I used it, you are supposed to use a cleaner/degreaser, then a sealer. This is supposed to keep the por 15 where you paint it. One warning, dont paint over any nuts, bolts or joints that are supposed to move. If you do, you will never remove those nuts, bolts and the joints will be frozen forever, if not sooner. POR15 dries extremely hard, but you still need to put a top coat over it as it does not take the wrath of weather very well. After using and you have some left, put a plastic sheet between the can lip and the top. If you dont, that cap will never come off again. "added comment" POR15 cures with a mix of air and moisture. if you put the top on and store on a shelf normal side up, you will get a very hard skip coat on the top of the remaining POR15. It is rather, ok it's tough to get the rest out, you have to break through the skip coat. So, after you have the can sealed, store it in a pan (in case of leakage) UPSIDE DOWN, so the skimage will be on the bottom of the remaining POR15. Just a heads up.

My response was who the F$ck cares, it looked great, that's all that anybody cared about before the fire. There is a lot to it, heck having the knowledge on what material to use is a whole thing itself.

Dear Dalton, in order to prolong your existence, please try to avoid using an unshielded cut-off wheel in such a way that if it skips it stands a good chance of severing major arteries in your wrist, (3:47) I almost died just watching! Sincerely, a fan.

JD sure is a good helper, he'll learn enough helping you to have a good career if he chooses to do it but he sure needs to be wearing a dust mask while he's working inside the car with you sanding fiberglass on the dash. That car is gonna be so sweet of a ride when you're done with it. 1964 to 1970 are my favorite year's of cars and truck's. Great video guy's and I hope you take care until the next video and I'll see you then. 👍

Dalton, I really enjoy your channel. Please stop grinding, sanding and painting without a mask. Take my advice because it’s not fun later in life and you can’t breathe.

Damn brother you are an inspiration to all the young guys that are coming up in the car culture. I love your budget friendly "it ain't right but it sure as hell ain't wrong." Also your motto should be " doing something is better than nothing!!" Thanks for sharing your talents and adventures!!!

My wife’s grandfather taught me bodywork and his techniques were very similar to yours. Gramp used to call it crash and crunch body work, but it does the job and you have more finesse. I also love seeing JD working and learning from you. My son used to till he moved out on his own, cherish those moments. Keep up the good work and the great videos.

Dalton, this by far is one of my favorite videos of yours! My son and I did our 65 GTO 4 years ago using similar methods and he’s been driving and racing it since! Met you at Pontiac Nats..Too many people think you have to do a concourse restoration on every car. Get it on the road and enjoy it! Thank you!

Love seeing this proper high end work, reminds me of Carter auto restyling. Equal craftsmanship really.

First full coat of primer is satisfying, you know you're not even close to being done; but you see the form taking place. The light you see is not a locomotive but the end of the tunnel. Keep er going.

I live in southwest MO. August is miserable here. It is truly awful. I have sat in a chair in the shade and still had sweat rolling off me. Nobody works outside in August unless they absolutely have to. So I commend you Dalton, for putting in the hard work to entertain us.

I always enjoy your show, thank you. I enjoy watching fabrication work on most anything. The welding that you are able to do is good work. I enjoy the watching the body prep/ mudding, fiberglass and the sanding. Watching a car getting primer and painted is awesome as well. The interior cleaning and prep, fabricating and rust treatment is cool as well. This is going to be a nice classic Pontiac when you are done. I am sure the interior is going to be well done as well. The drivetrain and engine should be well done as well. Great show!

This is not trash! this is how it's done, how I do it and how my brother does it, how we were tough how to do it in your driveway, we have now shop to speak of but we do good. We have kept an 86 Ford pickup on the road for 20 years and it looks ok not great,or show worthy, but I could drive it anywhere and not sweat it

F the haters, whiners, and anal retentive curmudgeons. They can go buy a car and build it their way.....over the course of a decade. You do you.

This is the reason this channel is the best car channel out there. Dalton shows how to make do with what you got and not what you wish you had. A pristine car isn’t gonna do you any good when it’s sitting in the garage waiting for you to get everything perfect. Get out there and get these cars on the road where they belong, lookin cool cruising down the road👍🏼

First of you are the only “You Tuber” still working out of your original garage and house for that matter, kudos to you. I am in the process of blocking my ‘66 Le Mans preparing for paint and i also had to rebuild the lower channels of both the front and rear windows and lower dog legs but it was an Arizona car. The rear decklid is also garbage but it will do, creative glass and filler work hides the evil. Thanks to you it is also getting the full UMI compliment of parts but i’m keeping the 326 and 3 speed auto because i spent the money to have the tranny gone through and it runs like a sewing machine and i already have an LS swap going in my 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and yes I am a Jeep and Pontiac guy with 3 of each and a brand new $90k GMC 2500 to haul my shit when they break down because old cars will break and we keep fixing them! Keep up the great work and keep it going!
