I'm older. I was playing pedal steel and was a year away from buying my first D-18. Nice work on this guitar!

8:13 first clue this youngster of a Strat has the loose fret. (I'm a '54 vintage myself). Remembering these early '60s in the store window. I think it was $275 in Montreal around the mid-60s. It was a neighbour's band, and then Jim Messina, when he was with His Jesters, who really turned me on to the sound of a Stratocaster through a Fender amp.

Born 1963 here.. I remember trying to save my lawn mowing money ($5 a lawn) to buy a Strat in the early 70's. Best deals I could find were early 1960's Strats for around $200. Found one in the classifieds for $175 but said it needed paint. I didn't quite have enough money so ended up buying a 1970 Telecaster for $125. This was in 1975. Thanks for the video.

It's always an inspiration to watch craftsmen such as yourself plying their trade. I feel like I learn something valuable every time, even as a DIY guy who would have no business touching any instrument of value. Scary thought working on such a prized one!

Yup, I turned 64 last Saturday. It gave me the opportunity to play “ when I’m sixty four “ to my gal. She’s 71 and I think she wants to keep me.

I’m a lot older than that 1964 Stratocaster, in fact I’d left school before it was made. Many people think that all pre CBS Strats were perfect but even back then there were quality problems such as paint defects and sloppy neck pockets etc. they were all individual and no two played or sounded exactly the same. Regarding pricing, in the UK a new Stratocaster cost about ten times the weekly wage of a skilled worker. Although I’d dearly like to own a pre CBS Strat the current USA guitars are fine instruments and represent great value for money. If you take the time and effort to go to real bricks and mortar stores and try before buying you can find some great new USA built Fender guitars at very reasonable prices.

Hey Scottie, I was a freshman in High School, age 14 in 1964. It’s old, yes, but not ancient 😝

It is not necessary to remove the backplate. Just use the tremolo arm to align the holes.

I've seen Ron Thorn, a Fender Masterbuilder, actually grab the neck of a strat and pull on it to straighten it! Didn't even loosen the strings or the screws!! I figure if a Masterbuilder thinks that's okay to do... 😉 Fenders are VERY forgiving when it comes to adjustments. Leo was a genius and made the perfect working man's guitar! Imagine the value of that investment from 60 years ago?! Makes you wonder if todays $200 dollar Squiers will be of similar worth 60 years from now!? 🤔

Kind of surprised that a real pre-cbs strat would have that loose of a neck pocket.. considering the price you’ll pay for one. Then again they def weren’t cnc perfect in the 60’s,that’s one plus of a new American or custom shop strat..or at least I’d expect the modern neck pocket to be perfect.endlessly cool though!
