This is such a genius adaptation from one genre to another. I never would have thought of mass Effect as a Strategy RPG, but seeing it in practice this fits perfectly.

Honestly, take the multiplayer idea of you playing as regular soldiers righting against the reapers while Shepard is off doing the main story and turn it into something like Xcom would be awesome. It even works out with the idea of sending out 4-man squads fighting a variety of missions such as rescuing vips that can assist with building the crucible or a terror-attack style mission where you need to evacuate civilians and any that get captured are turned into husks. While doing missions, your engineers and scientists are busy working on new methods to improve your soldiers fighting capabilities and resistance to reaper indoctrination. Could be a pretty awesome crossover game for the two franchises.

Combine Element Space with XCOM: Chimera Squad, and you got a nice starting point.

You guys absolutely knocked it out of the park! All those hints at gameplay mechanics, like the environment blocking trajectory of movements or attacks, and the battle animation terrain changing depending on where the character's standing. So good. I imagine that you could've easily made the Normandy's airstrike shadow wrap around the walls of the battlefield for a more realistic look, but chose to just uniformly slide it across, better capturing that limited style of the GBA. Amazing attention to detail. Also, the character portraits are so freakin cute.

The authors of this channel should definitely make some kind of their own game in pixel art style. While it's possible authors, artists work somewhere in the games industry. But it is worth making exactly your original project in pixel arte. Just amazing work.

Haven't played Mass Effect, but as a big Advance Wars fan, this was superbly good. Well done. You thought up some abilities I wish were in the real game! Only super minor detail would be greying out the characters (de saturating) when their turn was used.
