Many of these _Chevrot,_ and some new ones, are still essential parts of many Jewish communities, even today. Some are shared between congregations, and some larger congregations have their own. In most Jewish communities today, there are _Chevrah Kadisha,_ _Chevrah Hatzalah_ (a volunteer ambulance corps, who's work is to keep the _Chevrah Kadisha_ from being too busy), Tomchei Shabbos, and Bikur Cholim.

Parnas is less likely to be related to President IMO, but rather the Greek mountain Parnassus - “home of the muses.” Preside, decide, reside are all based on the Latin “sedeo,” to settle. Whereas according to Wiki: “It was suggested by L. Palmer, the philologist, that Parnassus is a name formed in the Luwian language, one of the Anatolian group of languages. In his view the name derives from parnassas, the possessive adjective of the Luwian word parna meaning house, or specifically temple, so the name effectively means the mountain of the house of the God [...] Palmer goes on to postulate that some pre-Greek people were Anatolian, perhaps from an earlier wave of conquest, and that their country and facilities were appropriated by the proto-Greeks.” Based on that info it would be a pretty remarkable coincidence if Parnassus WASNT the derivation.
