I LOVE those old Sears and Montgomery Wards shotguns and Rifles! They were a Hell of a lot of bang for the buck. Funny side note, I was viewing a cut from the Movie "Hot rods to hell 67" And I made the comment the Dad in the Movie needed a sears shotgun. A number of people were shocked to discover sears sold shotguns then I told them sears sold HANDGUNS back in the day. I,m 60 now almost as old as Your shotgun Let me tell You America was a very different plac back then.

Yeah, it's a shame we can't turn back the clock to be honest. Even when I was a kid I remember goin into Western Auto with my daddy or grandpa and seeing barrels full of old mil-surp rifles at the counter. Man what a downhill slide we're on in this country now..😞

Thank you sir. I need to get me a can of Ballistol. I'm a CLP man but I been wanting to try it at least. After I got done and looked it over a bit, I figured out the problem is just plain old wear on the elevator. It's just not as fat as it used to be so if you don't come as far back as possible with the slide, there's just not enough meat to depress the interrupter. I guess that'll teach me not to short stroke it.😆

Back then, Most all the catalog stores, like Sears, J.C.Pennys, Montgomery Wards, Th Western Autos, and Standard Farm Stores, and many more across the country carried rifles, handguns, and shotguns. A few months ago, I bought my 1st shotgun, which ended up being an old Stevens single shot 12 gauge I picked up for 96 bucks. I read up a little bit about how to date them and basically, since the name on the side of the gun is "J Stevens Arms & Tool Co.', it indicates that the gun is pre-WW1 since the name was later changed to 'J Stevens Arms Co.' and later to just Stevens. On top of the barrel, it says patented in 1913. So it's probably from about 1913 or 1914. Still shoots and ejects perfectly fine, but knowing its age, I'm a little scared to run anything more powerful than light birdshot through her, lol.

@@ToolsandTargets For sure. Don't want to damage them. Might be kinda hard to find replacement parts. And while these old shotguns probably aren't worth too much as a collector's item when compared to something like military surplus rifles, they're definitely valuable in their own right. I've got the Sears marked model 20. My Dad bought it used from an old farmer for $35 years ago, when I was just a toddler. I'm pushing 60 now, and Dad just passed almost a year ago. I have all of his guns - including this one. It was one of our hunting guns when I was growing up in our small farm here in southern Indiana. Mine has the weird, mean looking choke on the end of the barrel. It uses screw in chokes. It came with a full choke and that is the only choke we have. Several years back, my model 20 started having sluggish feeding, just like yours does. I've never been able to figure out why it is doing this. Did you figure out what the problem is ? The magazine spring seems kinda weak on mine. I've thought maybe that is causing the issue. It's been one of my squirrel guns for many years. I just use it like a single shot. It's taken more squirrels and other critters than I can count. I keep it by my kitchen table close to where I sit most of the time anymore. The big ole choke on the end of it gives it a real wicked appearance. But anyway, thanks for the video on this ole shotgun. You don't see very many of them.

Very nice! I honestly think the sluggish feeding is just a matter of wear on a few parts inside. The elevator just doesn't contact the shell release tab like it should anymore. You're right that it's probably a little weakening of the magazine spring too. A little gentle bending and stretching of a few parts would probably have it running nicely again, but I just leave this one as is. I figure it deserves a rest after all these years.😎

@@ToolsandTargets Thanks for the quick response ! I watch dang near all your videos, but I just now seen this one. I believe you are right. The issue we both have with our guns is they are just worn from age. I've inspected the elevator and shell release tab too. But it's just really hard to tell. I thought about getting it looked at, but like you, just decided to let the ole gun semi-retire. She deserves it. I shoot the model 20 a few times a year, single shot, just for the good memories it brings back. Oh, does yours have the shell cut off switch on the side of the reciever? Mine does and I always thought that was a neat feature. But thanks for all the hard work and time and effort you put into your channel. I enjoy and appreciate it !

@@shadowwolf2524 Appreciate that! Mine doesn't have the mag lockout. The Benelli nova I recently picked up does. That is a very cool feature.😎

Nice! I agree about the sound. It just has more of that classic pump sound you love to hear.😎

That's an antique very hard to find I bet. Best to hang it up on the wall as a show piece.
