Big fan of goedrum. I'm using their components on my full metal A2E cymbals. I like that there isn't rubber on the edge in this new design; that was half the reason I looked into building my own - hitting rubber felt like playing in mud.

Good to know that these and the Zeitgeist CAD are the same-I've not been able to find any reviews of the CADs so I'm glad to have seen this!

That's just my best guess, the screws, and bottom piece all seem to match the GoEdrum one I have

There’s a reason rubber works so well for triggering piezo/switch technology. Look at a video of a cymbal being played in slow motion and you can see the movement in the cymbal before it settles back into shape. In terms of asking triggers to send controlled MIDI information to a module, it’s a clusterf***! The software doing the processing has to be intelligent enough to convert that info into meaningful responses from a sound library. The eDRUMin currently has 2 specific pad settings for metal cymbal conversions which offers some sort of parameters for converting erratic MIDI info from metal cymbal conversions. But a proprietary module will be set up to process MIDI from its own hardware builds and its own sound library. Metal conversions are a shot in the dark unless you’re going to add something rigid to house the triggering elements and drastically reduce a metal cymbal’s natural ability to bend under pressure to distribute the shock waves which produce the sound. This is why rubber is still King for sending appropriate MIDI info.

Apart from the rubber rim,you can strategically place double sided tape on the underside of cymbal to further mute it and it's perfect.

I'm currently also creating my own hybrid cymbals. I've got alot of tricks that I'm currently implementing. I hope I'll be able to showcase my design on this channel someday! ☺☺

Thanks for this review, Justin. As you know, I've been using the Jobeky ecymbals semi professionally for more than a year now. It seems like the industry still hasn't found the ideal combination of responsiveness, durability and price yet. Close, but not like the drum triggers. Some day!

Thank you Justin 🙏, this is the video I just need! I am planning to diy triggered low volume cymbals with Goedrum parts and the cheap no-brand low volume cymbals that I have, then wiring it to work with Yamaha Dtx502 before I buy used Yamaha Dtx Pro module (as you can see, I’m Yamaha fanboy 😊). Wondering if Yamaha would release any new module in 2024 or 2025… Anyway, this video has demonstrated me how well Goedrum triggering, how loud it is compared to other e-cymbals, etc. So, thank you Justin. 😊 👍

Interesting that the rigidity of the cymbal has that effect. I'll keep that in mind. At some point I want to experiment a little with some low volume cymbals and brush on or spray on rubber (Liquid Rubber, Plastidip, Flex Seal) on the bottom roughly the way this product has it although it looks like the rubber in this case is a separate part not applied to the metal. It should work the same however.

649 RM are around 130€ or 140 USD. Google does have currency conversion built in. Seems cheap, but my guess is that it won't be that great a deal when you add shipping, tax and perhaps import fees.

I was using metal e-cymbals at my teaching studio for a while and had to take them all off. Though they do feel really nice, the sound got really irritating after a while, especially if you're trying to play through a speaker. I was reminded by this video as to how good those Evans LV hi hats sound though, haha. Really, most of the time this is the worst part of LV cymbals, but Evans did it well.

I converted a lemon splash to metal using a cheap ass cymbal from ebay, I peeled the rubber cover off and put the metal cymbal on the plastic plate that I was left with, triggering is as good as it was with the rubber cover, if not a bit better. I put rubber door seal on the bottom of the metal cymbal , not on the edge, looks better ,and dampens the sound decently. The ambient sound isn't too bad , I think I will do the remaining cymbals, I can always reverse it if it doesn't work out.

I really enjoy doing diy stuff to my kit, I made all my triggers for my a to e conversion, they are ok, but ,hoping to get some extreme drums triggers for Christmas, if my wife takes my not so subtle suggestions 😊. I got heads from that company, I am super happy with the heads, and Marshall, the owner is very helpful

Justin, you're amazing! Thank you for all your videos. I wanted to ask: How does a metal low-volume electronic hi-hat like this (or a similar competitor model) compare to the Roland VH-14D in terms of feel, when compared to acoustic drums? And how about accuracy of triggering? Do you think there's currently any metal electronic hi-hat that compares to the Roland? Thank you!

I like the idea of metal cymbals for the look but they're always going to be louder. Perhaps there needs to be a rethink on the design of a cymbal. Rather than making it look like a cymbal, perhaps it evolves to a special pad design with mesh heads.? Just tossing that out as an idea.

Yup, make electronic drums stand out like the 80's Simmons. I like the idea of sort of bar arrangement for cymbals.

Hi Justin, just watching your review, thanks a lot, it deals exactly with what I am currently wondering about! I intend to go for such a hybrid hi hat to replace the rubber hi hat from my alesis crimson 2. I have reached out to Jobeky and Diamond but they are not really sure about the compatibility of their controllers with my drum set. Would you know whether the module you tested does fit with the crimson 2? Thanks, Steffen

I bought a whole set of the Drumtec Zeitgeist cymbals and I can confirm, they're just the Goedrum cymbals more or less rebranded. They were pretty awful for me honestly. They don't really have the full rebound of actual cymbals like you think they would. Dialing the triggering in was also a nightmare, even with an eDrumin. I can understand why some people might like them, but they don't perform as good as they look.
@mikebassart

That's a bummer, they look pretty great, and I was hoping to hear that they played well - or at least better than rubber cymbal pads. I'd willing to accept the noise penalty in order to get a better and more realistic stick response, but of course poor triggering is kind of a deal breaker.

When you press the hihat pedal, how does it avoid triggering the edge zone since the switch is smashed between the bottom plastic disk and the cymbal?

In theory seems like the answer is yes. You would miss the choke function though- this one doesn't seem to have that included as it is a hi-hat piece

Any suggestions on the best hihat to use with an alesis multipad? Pretty sure there's only 2 levels of triggers but I really want a realistic response and output. I might have to run to my computer and use Superior Drummer for that. But I digress. Worth it to buy a good Roland one like VH12 or is that overkill??

Currently got a GoEdrum Hi-hat "V-11" controller on an uber-cheapo hi-hat stand w/ a genuinely beat to hell Roland CY6 on top that I forced a clutch into. Not Ideal by any means, but it works, and feels way better than my prior dinky Alesis stand alone hi-hat pedal controller. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ My current budget module/MIDI trigger send is an old Roland TD-6V. #ItWoiks

@@65Drums, can you qualify this statement a bit more? I've got a set of VH-14D's now, and I agree that they trigger great, and set up is an absolute breeze - at the end of the day rubber leaves something to be desired as a playing surface for a cymbal. I wouldn't expect these to be as sophisticated as the VH-14D's, but do they feel nicer to play? Do they promote good technique that will translate to an acoustic kit? And do they trigger "good enough?" Or do they feel as different from the real thing as rubber pads, but with a greater noise penalty and worse triggering?
