The only correction I would have about that update is that the load times are significantly faster. Even though they are loading in the background the process is still much faster than It was. I would say a kit that used to take 20 seconds now takes 5. Its just noticeable on the snare and kick which usually have a good amount of layers that need to load. And what is very interesting is that the sound of the entire module is better to most peoples ears. The sound is tighter and more focused. So even kits you thought sucked before now sound a lot better. Think punchier.

Agreed about “losing touch.” With acoustic drums we must know how to touch them. I find a lot of edrums have the sensitivity too low and require me to hit them too hard to get a good sound. I keep my settings sensitive with log2 and super low threshold

In reference to your edit that the Strike works with all Roland pads; it does not rim trigger on the PD 125 pad at all. Works fine on the 105 but not on the 125 for some reason. I have tried everything I could think of to make it work; I even tried moving the rim piezo to another location inside but no luck. Might be a bum module issue.

The Kat cymbal is not the same as Alesis. Alesis rides have both inputs. I used to have almost all Alesis DM cymbals and pads on my Roland modules and they are a direct replacement for Roland pads. All except for the snare not having position sensing capabilities of course.
@65Drums6 жыл бұрын
SiREN2173 do you mean the Strike cymbals? Or the DM10 cymbals? Just to clarify so I can correct my mistake :)
@AtTheSourceStudios6 жыл бұрын
65 Drums both the strike and DM cymbals are compatible to Roland. The DM cymbals 14" and 16" are triple zone with two inputs for bell and bow/edge like Roland. Only the 16" Strike cymbal is triple zone with the two inputs
@joshferry36286 жыл бұрын
Siren is correct, I still only have the DM-10 cymbals and am running TD-9. The ride on the DM-10 is a 3 zone just like Roland. It has 2 inputs just like Roland. In fact when I switched from the DM10 module to the TD-9 all the cymbals worked much better.

I have the Simmons sd1500 kit. I mainly use it for practice or jamming with friends. The question I have is: is there a hi-hat on a hi-hat stand that would be compatible with the sd1500?
@cleverestx5 жыл бұрын
My Ride cymbal stopped working until I swapped the two inputs in the cymbal, but now my BELL and EDGE are reversed, but it works....what could be causing that? Alesis has been atrociously slow in their response time in dealing with this...sadly.

I have the strike pro module and I don't know what the big deal is with the high hat I use the old style Roland foot Controllers I mount my high hats stationary I don't necessarily need it to open and close all that happens with the foot controller also saves me space not having a hat stand allows me to have a high hat left and right with 2 controllers next to my double kick pedal... I can also play both sets of hats right and left at the same time by crossfooting the pedals it works quite nicely they are always quick and clean...

Hi Justin, I recently purchased a Alesis Crimson II SE Kit. Love the kit and the pads. I was wondering... can I upgrade the kit with a Alesis Strike Pro Module? Would I have any issue with that?
@InfamousDrew6 жыл бұрын
Hey Justin thanks for answering my question, I appreciate it. But just to inform you a bit on the Alesis DM 10 MKII pro kit, for the ride cymbal it actually has 2 inputs so I kinda think the roland module would work well with it. Not so sure about the hi hat tho I'm planning to upgrade to the roland VH11 hi hat along with the roland TD 30.

Hey Justing, I was considering the Alesis strike module Because of the individual inputes for the pads versus my TD 25 and TD 11 single inputs. I'm planning on using my TD 25 and 11 pads. You mentioned that the module is great but the way it works with the pads was questionable. Would this module work well with my Roland Pads none are digital.?

Hey Justin, I have a budget of $2300 and I need an acoustic(for 2 shows a year approximately) and an electric for practice. I'm torn between buying a td-17kvx (1600) and an acoustic pearl export with hardware ($650). Or buying the pearl export, module, triggers, ecymbals, etc to convert it into a hybrid. which would cost me a bit more and I heard the mesh heads damage the bearing edges over time. Thanks! And I love the channel!
@markomarkovic57296 жыл бұрын
I would buy better acoustic kit and some used TD-11k or kv, maybe Yamaha dtx532k. You can get brand new Tama Superstar Hyperdrive with hardwer for about 1000$ or Mapex Armory, which also comes with the hardware

I agree. A used TD-11 K (maybe get a three zone ride along with it) is quite good for practice. The inner rings on the mesh head just make you play better. But if you're going to be playing the kit a whole lot more than the show kit, maybe a nicer model is ideal? But you said for practice.

Should i buy something and add those to my DTX500 module or should i sell the DTX 550k and buy a new kit. maybe from alesis or roland? I would like to keep a realistic hi-hat stand though. and i feel like cheap kits (around 1000 euro) don't come with one.

Hey Justin, got a question for you :) Since you can easily connect the TD50 drum module via usb as an interface and use it with EZ drummer in your DAW, how is the triggering performance of the digital pads? Are they enhanced in comparison to analog pads, does EZ drummer even take the USB pads into consideration or are they treated like analog pads? Cheers and have a good day!

Thanks a lot for all the effort to maintain this channel. There were precious information that I could get from here over the last months. I know 2box is not a thing in USA, but still when are you going to put your hands on a Drumit? This module is freaking good with samples exported from VST using SDSE. I have a Drumit 5 and I cannot leave the VSTs imported anymore. I've tested the Roland TD 17 on store and for me it sounded like a toy most of the time (The pads were good though and better than the 2box ones). I was really hoping someone to give a good review on the Drumit 3 using Roland or any other good pads :D

Hey Justin, you’re probably the only person I know who can answer this. I recently started recording with garage band through my iPad. I purchased the I rig Maddie to so I use my Roland TD 17 as a controller for the drum kits in GarageBand. But I want to use the sounds from my module in the songs I record in garage band. I’ve attempted to use The audio in but it just doesn’t sound good. I just went out and bought the camera adapter which is a USB to lightning and I’m going to try to use the USB type B port on the module. What other ways can I use the sounds of my module?
@65Drums6 жыл бұрын
Hey Rob! For fast recordings I use the version of iRig that has a guitar on the box. So I go from the master out of the module, to iRig, then my lightning adapter to my iphone. You won't get studio quality from this method, but it's perfect for stuff like drum covers and such.
@robcolone85466 жыл бұрын
65 Drums Well for drum covers are use the I rig too and yes it works great. I actually got it from watching your video. But I’m trying to record my role and sounds two projects in garage band and it doesn’t sound good. When I use the camera app it sounds 100 times better but for some reason when I use garage band, it doesn’t sound good. I just picked up that USB to lightning camera adapter thinking I can use the TD 17s USB out and I plugged it in And turned it to vendor and a window popped up on the iPad saying TD 17 isn’t compatible.
@65Drums6 жыл бұрын
Well then that USB out method doesn't work I guess.
@robcolone85466 жыл бұрын
65 Drums So basically I’m able to use my kit as a controller for recording. Anytime I do covers that I film i use the I rig and the quality is great. Maybe there’s a way I can extract the drum audio from that and put on the track.

It depends whether you like the new sounds from the TD-17. I say go for it, you will lose positional sensing tho. But it's all worth it for better sounds, importing samples and bluetooth. If it were my, I'd get some decent drum software like EZdrummer2 or even Superior Drummer 3(currently using it with my TD-25KV). It costs less but you still have your positional sensing and much bettet sounds than the TD-17

I own the strike. And it really is a coin toss. You could buy it and not have a single issue. Or you could have numerous. The hi hat is resolved for most people. There are a few people like me still experiencing issues though its 95% good for me. The pads can sometimes have issues but there is a fix to prevent that failure. All in all the module is almost impossible to beat for the price. There literally isn't anything that can do what it can do to the extent it can do it except VST. But those have their own limitations. But if you are not DIY savvy or at the very least patient then it may not be the best option. Especially is you would need to rely on it for gigs or a church. Don't get me wrong. I love this kit about as much as anyone could love their drum set. But I would bullshit someone. And its just not the best it could be. Ive said it before and I still stand by this statement. The Strike is a corvette. Its fast and very very capable at what it does. But as far as high performance machines go they aren't the most reliable or the most refined. But it offers performance you cant touch for the price any where else. You just have to be willing to accept your pride and joy may be in the shop more than the Lexus (roland) you could have had.

On the pedals question. Chain vs direct drive. My opinion is and I'll get to it. There are people with super fast feet on chain. It comes down to cam size for more power. If your a play who isn't so fast. And only plays a few fast parts. DD would work out. There not much faster. as for feel. That's a personal thing. I once liked leather strap. I've never used the nylon flex strap. (Ment to feel like leather). But it real comes down to with any pedal. If you want to change the setting. If you want to change the lube or even bearings. Beater head and Hight. You can make a cheap pedal feel rich and a expensive pedal feel poor. But I like chain with a standard foot board. It's consistent and if you have to play someone else's kit. There a high chance it will be a standard pedal. So tune your self to the common gear.
