Been an acoustic drummer for 40 years both teaching and gigging. Just traded in my trusty Premier XPK / Zildjian kit for a new Crimson 2 kit. Must admit it took a week for me to get comfortable and adapt to this "new instrument". However I absolutely love it. The different kits, the instruments, the control, and the sounds. It's actually renewed my love of drumming.

I'm having issues with this kit. I've had this kit for 3 years now and the triggers are off for snare and cymbals. Ive started playing alot ore because recording drum covers that I'm putting on youtube. I don't think this kit will last you years unless your continously changing the cymbals, snare, and Toms. I found myself to be calling customer support more than I should for issues with the kit. I'm upgrading to a Roland td-27kv very soon as Rolands are built to last longer especially for drummers who play alot. I would say both Alesis Crimson I and II kits are both great for beginners and intermediate but if your serious about drumming and you play everyday, get Roland Drum kits.

My best friend and I just bought this Kit right before Thanksgiving!!! In my very humble opinion, itZ definitely the best electronic drum set that I've ever played. I even enjoy it over my old Roland V-Drums TD-4KX and (obviously) my Nitro Mesh Kit. The siZes are very close to acoustic siZes, which makes it so much easier to actually move and groove while I'm playing! The module sounds are (to my ears) pretty good... I haven't gone through all of them ; I usually stick to two different KitZ that I made. But, I'm completely in love with this Kit! Since buying it, we've added a Triggera China, and put up one of the Nitro Mesh cymbals aZ our Splash! I cannot emphasize enough how much fun I have with this Kit 👍🥁🥁 Thank you so much for all of the electronic drum knowledge that you've taught me, Justin

Just tried it out at guitar center and I really liked it, so I bought it. I’ve played acoustic for about 17 years so it’s my first digital set. My playing style is mostly through my wrist and fingers so I’m hoping that will serve to preserve the life of the cymbals. Either way, I’m just excited to be able to play in my apartment!

Two years after you posted this, I just came across this video soon after ordering the DM10 MKii Studio on a "closeout" sale for $649. The Crimson 2 is currently $899 at GC, so I didn't mind the smaller snare pad and lack of stand to save $250 on what seems to be nearly identical hardware and module. Thanks for all the detailed videos, especially the evolution of the DM10, which is was got me searching for the DM10 MKii Studio kit to begin with!

OK... After a lot of reading (reviews, forums, articles, etc.), here's the skinny on the Alesis Crimson II. Apparently, it's the exact same kit as the Alesis DM 10 MKII Studio (save for the differences pointed out by Justin in this video), but the Crimson II is exclusive to Guitar Center (and I haven't seen it on Sweetwater or other sites, so I guess it's true). Personally, I've been comparing this kit to the Alesis DM10 MKII Pro and will probably pull the trigger on one of those kits. The DM10 MKII Pro has bigger toms (10" rack and 12" floor vs. the 8" rack and 10 " floor toms of the Crimson II) and cymbals, but the most significant difference to me is that the DM10 MKII has an extra tom and an new module. I'd love to get more info on that new module before deciding if the DM10 MKII Pro is worth the extra $200. What do you guys (and girls) think? Which one would YOU pick?

@cordxba7 жыл бұрын
actually amazing. only problem is a tough set up. i recommend opening everything and laying the parts out and moving the trash before you start, i over complicated it and put the wrong parts together and screwed it up so it took a couple hours. only other thing is that the high toms are a little too small, but i really don't care. all the kits are really nice and there are fun ones to play around with like marimba, indian, african, magic, and some funk and metal kits have guitar and bass sounds. the only things not included that you need are a kick pedal and the actual cable to hook to an amp. not much else to say other than it plays amazing and sounds great. ask me questions if you want i will try to respond quickly.

Hello from Ukraine! Great video that helped me choose electronic drums. Very cool! But I have such a problem: when I press the pedal to play a closed hat, not one sound (tss) is played, but two (tss-tss), one after the other. Not every pedal stroke, but often. Moreover, this happens more often if I press the pedal more slowly. This adds "dirt" to the sound. Such a "double actuation" of the trigger. I know it happens with electronic drums. The instructions for Yamaha even have a section on how such a problem can be eliminated. But in ALESIS CRIMSON II SE there are no such items in the menu. I went to a service center, a representative and I connected my pedal to the same kit - the same effect. Moreover, this is observed even on the COMMAND MESH KIT (younger). For a change, they put my pedal on COMMAND and a pedal from COMMAND on CRIMSON II - double action always jumps. So this is some kind of general software glitch? Who faced such a glitch and how can you fix it? Please help me...

I don't think that is correct. According to the official specs on the Website: both drum-sets have two 8 inch high toms, a 10 inch floor tom, 12 inch highhat, 12 inch crash, and 14 inch ride. I can vouch for this because I've played both drumsets.

the main difference is that II has the possibility to set the Alesis X-pro Hihat on to module. (also has a better lock against the rotation of the tube of the stand but watch !!! the Crimson II module does not send midi for the HIhat edge, which makes me bother to use with Superior drummer 3, and Crimson yes. And as far as the Hihat Alesis Pro-x is concerned, it is useless. I have Alesis Mesh kit along with VH-11 it's OK, I'm just sorry that the SPlash and Chick pedal sound does not work. I think I'll replace the Crimson module for the Thrre 2box, but it's pretty expensive. VH-11 I bought the older, and just because Crimson pedal ist too hard to pressing, the cymbal HiHat Alesis works well after using the adhesive tape modification.

I bought this kit pretty much as a hobby during this time when nobody can really go out and do much (am actually a guitar player for many years) and I will say it plays quite nicely. Couple minor complaints, but still not dealbreakers and no buyer's remorse as a result. First thing, it does not come with a pedal for the kick drum. Apparently this is not only because (as I have learned)kick pedals are sort of a personal preference, but also because Alesis does not make a kick pedal, as they specialize in electronic stuff and a kick pedal is, in a manner of speaking, a drumstick. Also the module gives you 2 extra inputs, but you have to use 1 of them for the 2nd crash cymbal. I am assuming this is because maybe this kit uses the same brain unit as the Crimson 1. No big deal there...just plugged in one my guitar cords and back in business. I also like the idea of being able to program zones more like acoustic drums. That will be a learning curve for me, but after about an hour or so I had it assembled and playing. Not too bad. Also doesn't take up an excessive amount of garage space and also the neighbors will still like me.

@Mephiston7 жыл бұрын
I'd wait until there are individual reviews of the two different kits (sound and functionality wise), because they are different price points (the Dm10.2 pro is more expensive), so they dont really compare. If the dm10.2 pro doesnt sound any different (or the price doesnt justify the sound/quality improvement), you might be able to save yourself some money and just get an additional tom, since it looks like the crimson module is the same module, just with a firmware/sound archive update, meaning it should have the rear additional inputs for an extra tom and cymbal.

I can't decide on whether to buy this kit or a dm10x. I know you're not too big about the dm10x sounds, but it has an extra tom and I think you can adjust the sounds on the module. Also, (I know it's probably an unpopular opinion) but I like the mylar heads, dunno why but I like the feel of an acoustic set (but I want an edrum kit). However, the crimson ii doesn't have an extra tom but (from what I understand) has a better module, plus the red shells make it look cool too. Any advice?
@DrumCoversbyBill7 жыл бұрын
You can add an extra tom and crash to the Crimson 1 and 2. Your right, the red shells do make it look great and thats one of the reasons I went with it and I love it. You can import your own sounds to the module or use EZDrummer and get additional high quality sounds. Ive had my Crimson set for about 7 months now and love it.
@cordxba7 жыл бұрын
i have to say i actually kind of wanted the mylar pads (dm10x also) because i've had an acoustic set and i understand what you mean by you like the feel it is very satisfying for some reason. but i needed a quiet kit and the acoustic sets just aren't practical for my family living in a small one story home. playing in the garage you could hear it throughout the whole house it even freaked my dogs out. i think mesh heads have done fine for me because although mylar heads are still somewhat quiet, it would kind of defeat my purpose for buying an electronic set. i recommend if you are trying to play past when your neighbors, roommates, or family go to sleep or just play without having to worry about being annoying, just go with mesh heads. im probably too late for op but anyone having this same issue i would just go with mesh heads.
@cordxba7 жыл бұрын
also about the extra tom thing, it looked like the selling point for me but after buying the crimson 2 a few days days ago, i wouldn't even think of using the extra tom. three toms with completely adjustable sounds to sound like any acoustic set is enough for me. i also find myself being just fine with the crimson II module and found 5 to 10 kits that work for me and couldn't bother importing more shit.

how does the hi-hat feel? without any stand
@LLLefty44 жыл бұрын
IMO, it was an improvement over a yamaha pad, but I updated to a dedicated stand with a go edrum controller. Its still not an acoustic, but feels more realistic.

What is drum software? And why do you have to use it?

As a new drummer to electric drums. I'm also curious about this as well
@Jonathan-ih7qp5 жыл бұрын
A couple popular options for drum software are EZdrummer or Superior Drummer by Toontrack. Long story short they're kinda like virtual drums on your computer that can be controlled via MIDI or you can use them to program a drum track for a project instead of needing a live drummer. Drum software is often recommended for cheaper electronic drum sets as you can use the e-kit as a controller for the drum software and get superior sounds through the software than you would from the stock sounds on the e-kit's module.

Great review. Unsure if it was an early Black Friday deal, but just purchased this kit from walmart.com for $750, which fulfills orders through Musician's Friend (who still have it priced at $900). I added the 4-year warranty WM offered for an extra $77. Free shipping also, whereas it would have cost me another $60 - $70 through MF. Couldn't pass that deal up.

The model two has a few awesome added kits. The best being a muted kit for modern rock and metal.

I got one AND IM IMPRESSED with the product very sensitive too, everything is so responsive as you play along, as a drummer this is good for practice the kit itself took me 1 hour to put everything together all the parts but I recommend 2 people trust me its way quicker, if you have questions about the product please let me know or ask below, ill soon record a video of myself playing a song on the Crimson II kit, now its time to get in the drums and have fun.

can you use a double pedal with the bassdrum and how do the cymbals feel?
@PedroBrandaodrums6 жыл бұрын
kobe laurijssen yes you can I do have double pedal on mine
@kennyd.68226 жыл бұрын
Kobe Laurijssen I like the cymbals. I just got it. Took me like a hour to set up too. Double bass works great on it but you want to turn the beaters around to the plastic side not the felt. Just incase not aware. The felt will eventually tear a whole.. Cymbals are good. Ride has a bell.. Can choke them as well

I've had the crimson 2 for about a year. It's my first e-drum kit and I think it sounds great but isn't the most durable. I only planned on using it for a few years before buying a nice acoustic set. I haven't had any problems with the cymbals and they all seem to work like new still. My snare on the other hand has had some problems. The red wire connecting to the middle sensor pad thing has disconnected and I've repaired it by soldering it back on myself, put some superglue and electrical tape over it, hopefully it will last a good while. The cylindrical pads (pressing against the mesh) in my toms sometimes just fall over and I have to open them up and re-position them which is fairly easy but annoying. It's happened 3 or 4 times and started happening only a few months after purchase. I also ripped a hole through my kick pad because I was using felt beaters and they eventually wore down and became uneven. The inside of the kick pad was full of powder. Hoping it won't happen again now that I've replaced the beaters with rubber ones I am a fairly hard hitter and play mostly heavy metal style drums so maybe these problems aren't common. I'm still fairly satisfied with the kit overall for the price.

Well done. I only had one experience with the Crimson 1 at the store and the kit was badly damaged by customers abuse. Same with the Yamaha DTX500 and Roland TD11. Not bad kits if people take care of them.
@PedroBrandaodrums7 жыл бұрын
I just purchased the Crimson II and im very impressed with the product, and those store drum kits forget it man like you said if you take care of the drumkit you probably not going to be dealing with problems at all unless if its cable related which is cheap and easy to fix.

Dude I got the crimson 2 kit this week and I don’t know if it’s my headphones but it was the worst sounds I’ve ever heard out of an e kit, not sure if it was worth $1,099

I agree, this kit is garbage and breaks down quickly...it's not your headphones

Hey Justin. Need your advice. I’m about to get my first e drum kit. From where I am my choices are Yamaha DTX 402 , DTX 452, Alesis Crimson 2, Alesis Nitro kit and few Roland kits which is like way way off my budget. So that leaves me with Yamaha and Alesis. Please be kind enough to let me know which is best. Appreciate your feedback. Cheers Kasun

@TheCokee474 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you've already purchased a kit since this comment is 7 months ago, but I have a Yamaha DTX450k kit and its only alright. It's good for an entry level kit to start learning how to play drums but by no means is this a high quality kit. My hi-hat cymbals don't register each hit and the rubber pads leave a lot to be desired. It did a great job at allowing me a cheap set to learn how to play drums but once you get past that point you immediately start looking for more. I should have waited a bit and saved up a bit at least for the Alesis Crimson II set.

In Europe the DM10 MKII costs 930$, whereas the crimson II costs 1170$, would the DM10 MKII be worth it over the crimson II in that case? Thanks and digging the videos btw.

Alesis' website claims the crimson mesh kit was a 3-zone ride, so is it an actual downgrade, or was their website wrong?
@brandonjones23487 жыл бұрын
The ride on the Crimson II is 3 zone, I actually got the drum set about a week ago and I've played it multiple times. The triggering is not great though for the ride. I'm still happy with it and I think it was a good first E-Kit for what I got. I also use drum software and the pads for that price are pretty nice. I hope the cymbals last awhile, I have a warranty if not though.
@olikkolik75976 жыл бұрын
I modified the ride and Hihat by attaching several layers of self-adhesive tape under the both switches (rim and bell ). You must first remove the entire rubber upper surface. And it works well

Just got the Crimson II kit and quite impressed with it. It does need some tweaking to get the sound and triggers right and for good dynamic sounds, but once set up the stock sounds are actually really good. It tends to sit very good in the overall mix with other instruments and music. Here's what my set sounds like after setting up. No VSTs or editing audio at all. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6jHnauIiN6Hbtk
