The Good:
Has The Best Electronic Snare And Ride That Money Can Buy
The New TD27 Has Many More Features Than The TD25
Good Sizes Mixed With Portability
Deep Sound Editing Features
The Bad:
Not As Pretty As The New VAD Drumsets
The Kickdrum Is A Bit Small For This Kit

I bought the TD27KV a few weeks ago. It is my first e-kit. I have been playing for 50 years and I own many high end acoustic drums and cymbals so I am very fluent in drum kit sounds. I like the TD27KV a lot and I enjoy playing it. The snare is the best feature. It does play very much like real snare. The ride cymbal is better than most but it is just OK in my view. The module is easy to understand and fun to play around with. E-drums still have a way to go to be close to equal to acoustic drums and cymbals but I am impressed with how the technology has evolved. It is an expensive kit and I bought it because I am at the age and stage of life that I can afford it.This kit is a luxury item in my opinion.

I relied on this channel quite a bit to decide between a Roland kit and an Alesis Strike kit. I did tons of research and ultimately got the Roland TD27KV and could NOT be happier. Roland even excels at packing the kit for shipment! It was truly impressive to see how it was packed. If you're considering ordering one online, like I did from Sweetwater, and are worried about the shipping process, I wouldn't worry at all. Just insanely well-packed. Now, for the kit, SUPER easy to set up. It took me over an hour, but I was intentionally going slowly. I'm a little burned by accidentally drilling a hole in some IKEA furniture where there wasn't supposed to be one :-/, but no drilling necessary in setting this up :) Also, I've barely read the manual at all. I set it up and started playing. Everything was very intuitive. ONE IMPORTANT THING. I do wish I read the manual because it tells you to make sure you tighten the heads before playing because they come loose intentionally and playing them loose can damage the sensors. But, thankfully, I didn't damage anything at all. Everyone I asked, from friends, to random sales reps at my local Guitar Centers, to Kraft Music, Sweetwater, they ALL said go Roland. The quality is that much better they all said. So, after a ton of research I went with the TD27KV because of the digital snare and ride. A big upgrade from the 17KV, which is right below it, and the same ones that come in the more expensive Roland kits. If it's in your price range, I highly recommend it. I've been having a BLAST. Thanks to @65Drums for the excellent channel.

Was out of drumming for about 10 years and my wife gave me an electronic set for Christmas (Alesis low-budget model). I took that back and got the Roland 17kVX but while I was waiting for it to be delivered, Roland came out with the 27KV. I did some comparisons and decided to fork out the additional $1300 for the 27. Upgraded module that is based off the TD50, better stand, and most important to me- bigger pads and digital snare and ride. I'm very pleased with the kit so far and am glad to see that you had a high opinion of it too. Thank you for putting together this video, was fun to watch (and seeing you play gave me a goal to shoot for).

I bought a Roland TD27KV and customised the heck out of it. Added a Roland TD12 brain module and a heap of other pads/cymbals, expanded the existing rack with lengthened side rails, made the front of the rack wider to accommodate a full 22in acoustic bass drum. Also has acoustic cymbals, so its a bit of a hybrid kit! I bought a second hand bass drum off Facebook marketplace, re-shelled it and then modified it to house the existing KD10 Roland bass drum pad. By the end it looks like the Roland bass drum modification kit you can buy. It looks just like a normal Bass drum from the side and front. At the back there's a small section where the pad protrudes from the drum. The round pad sticks out more then the Roland modified version by about 25mm or so, but is very neat and perpendicular with the rest of the bass drum so doesn't look out of place. The whole KD10 is neatly and fully bolted down into the Acoustic Bass drum housing and with black heads mostly fully disguises its true intent :-) (At this time, it still has clear heads, but i'll put black ones on to completely tidy its appearance) With the KD10 being fully bolted into the drum, its solid as a rock and stable! Playing it really surprised me, its solid and stable just like an acoustic bass drum, but the pad surface has enough "give" to bury the beaters into it and feels dare I say, near perfect! I integrated 6.3mm mono jacks into the bass drum so it has a neat plug on top to connect into, so no messy cables snaking into the drum. I went into the project thinking, it will turn to @#$%, but it actually turned out far better than I expected and I'm really stoked on the result. It turned out to be a solid, neat and fantastic conversion. Its "all in one" and fully integrated, so no disassembly, just pull the plug out of the top and that's it, its ready to move as one. Wish photo's could be added, because words don't do it justice tbh! Oh, and because the KD10 bass drum pad is not integrated with either of the acoustic head skins, there is no added noise produced from the conversion. Its as silent as the original stand alone KD10 pad. Anyways, sorry for the long post, but as you can tell, this project could not have worked out any better (imo) and for once, turned out actually far better then I'd pictured or planned, so I'm pretty excited about it :-)

The cymbal sounds (just from your playing) are really, really amazing! You know I'm not a big fan of the drum sounds of ANY Roland drum module. I just prefer Yamaha's module sounds (DTX 500, 700, and 900 series). However...those Roland cymbal samples are crazy good. And the feel of those cymbal pads!

Here's my advice. If you already own a Roland kit from the past 10 years, save yourself money and go for just the TD27 upgrade package (27 module, digital ride cymbal, digital snare drum)! Then you can use your existing kit as expansion pads to have extra toms/cymbals. Use splitters or both your modules at the same time. Best bang for your buck! My ideal Roland kit would have: -module with quality sounds that are better than any VST on the market -digital hi-hat -digital ride -digital snare -15 - 18 inch VAD style kick drum with a wide 8 - 10 inch kick pad area to better accommodate double bass pedals -10 inch - 12 inch high tom pads, 14 or 16 inch floor tom pad, not a standard shallow Roland pad but not full VAD like the 503/506 either, somewhere in the middle with a little depth but not full VAD -3 cymbals pads (besides digital ride/HH) dual or triple zone to use as crash/splash etc. -All USB, midi, and bluetooth functionality -4 to 8 extra inputs for additional cymbals/pads -NO CABLE SNAKES! Allow each pad that is not digital to connect using a TRS to TRS cable!! Everyone wants this!!! -priced 5k or lower

Justin, I'm going to be buying aTD-27KV from Sweetwater because of you. You don't have an affiliation with them, that I can see, but I'm going to discuss with my sales rep (Sam Que) the many things I've learned from you and your many wonderful videos. If there isn't a financial crossing, at least there's the professional word of mouth taking place. I've really enjoyed your channel. It's been very, very good for me, a 61-year-old seeking to re-learn the drum set after too long away. I was never more than a basement band drummer, but I always loved the 4-limbed quality of a kit over that of a marching snare drum, which is what I learned on and never fully enjoyed. (Drum set drumming for me is dancing. I'm a better dancer than a drummer, but it is the full body coordination of both that I love -- rather than the hyper-technical stick work of rudiments drumming.) Now, at this point in my life, I'm re-learning drumming (and keyboards -- from another KZbin channel -- hahaha) for pure mental and physical health purposes. I'm a coordinated guy, but I can feel slippage from the years, and right now I can't manage a passable 2-stroke roll. Time to get back into shape!

The foot switch changes kits, the third digital input is for the vh14 hi hats. My current kit which I just got today and combined with my old one has 6 toms and 8 cymbals, sill have room for 5 more pads….

Great review Justin!!! I currently have two acoustic sets that I play... a Ludwig Downbeat and a dw Collector's Series. However, I am wanting an e-drums kit for obvious reasons of minimizing the sound throughout my house (and neighborhood), but also the flexibility of changing kit sounds. This kit looks perfect! Oh yeah... for the record, I really DON"T want my e-drums trying to look like an acoustic set. It's wonderful just like it is.

Hi Justin .... Tony here from the UK ....an avid watcher of your great channel .... keep up the very good work on your channel of critiquing e-drum kits ....tis the TOP GEAR OF DRUMS !! 😀👍 From an aesthetic point of view, if one wants to make the kit look like more like an acoustic drum kit , no reason why & with some simple carpentry skills, you can't hide & anchor the KD10 in a cheap acoustic 18 - 20" bass drum ? My only comment once again about the new ROLAND drum kits is PRICE !!!!!!!

Getting ready to switch to VDrums from an older Alesis DM10 mesh. I was actually saving for a TD-50KV. Cause I hadn't really looked into the latest stuff until recently. Then found this one and realized this better suits me. It's got the 3 Aux inputs for more cymbals that I wanted. It's got the 28 channel out. Nice! I don't need the on board sounds so that's of no concern. It won't be leaving my house, so looks aren't a factor. It's got bluetooth. And it's got all the joy of the 50. Digital Snare, Digital Ride, VH13 compatible. So yeah.. pretty much everything you mentioned for who this would work for. I'm dat guy.... Now that I'm saving a few grand.. Maybe I can buy that kidney back.

And to answer your question. There is no snare throw off on the footswitch! Neither on the TD50. Why drop that option, when they have so many other switch options that we will never use? Similarly, why not have Roto toms as available instrument, instead of the many electronic sounds that I will never use, being biased towards acoustic sounds for gigs myself.

Hey Justin, I had been looking at the Alesis Strike Pro SE and the Alesis Strike Multipad. After some research, I am thinking that the better set up would be the TD25KV with the Alesis Strike Multipad. I’m updating my electronic set from the 2010 Roland TD4 set. What is your thoughts?

Hi Justin V Thx for video new roland module ! What you think about sound of this module ? Something the sound seemed somehow freshish to me, there is not enough depth to the volumes, and the sound of its small attack .dry sound in most of the sets I compared with sound 17 module . i've td 17 kvx ^-^ The sound is deeper, immediately from the first blow, the whole depth and a palette of sounds are heard, while both 27 and 17 are made on the basis of 50, but sound, sound is what we buy electronics for =) The sound was excellent by 17, why make it worse on the new module, or the sound is not important - the main thing is new snare and ride Like ..... a blot on the landscape why spoil what was already so good? what prevented me from taking the full 17th module and just turning on all these new items on the 27th ?

Hi Justin. Have you done a comparison with the TD50? Apart from the extra outputs, what is gained by spending the extra to get the TD50K? BTW I am not keen on the layout of the TD50K rack. I prefer the rack toms up front. Not one in front and the others to the side.

I'm experienced in acoustic sets, but not in electric ones. Is it possible to add a double-bass pedal (say the DW5000) to use on the 27KV set's small kick pad? I want the double-kick and already have the DW5000, just not sure if you can put a double pedal on the small kick pad that comes with the 27KV. Thanks!

I am in the market for a new drum kit. The Td-27kv had been out for a while now, do you think it is still a good kit to go for? Do you think Roland will be coming out with a new kit to replace this in the near future? I get the impression that Roland have a 2 year cycle for release of new kits (or maybe I am imagining this🤔😁). Note that I have space constraints so sort of discounted the VAD line. I had a test run of this kit in a store and it seems to do a good job...

Hi, I am your subscriber and I am following this CHANNEL very often I have questions for you: 1) when I have created my own instrument, for example a snare drum, can I copy the same instrument, the same tuning, the same compressors, the same reverbs and paste it into another drum kit? 2) I want to enlarge my drum set. From the power strip of my Roland TD27 there are aux outputs (3) can I connect 3 roland PD8 pads to assign any sound from the control unit and hear it in stereo? 3) From the multicable that comes out of the control unit, I have some out of order jacks called RDB. What are they for ? I tried to connect one to a tom and assign it a sound but nothing plays. It is mute. how can I do? I do not find these answers on the internet I will be grateful if you will help me. Hi

Hi, Justin! Tell me, is it normal that the sound from the iPhone via bluetooth is terrible on the TD-27? If you play a track from a memory card, it sounds great, but if you turn it on from your phone and connect via bluetooth, the sound is wheezing and cracking. A very unpleasant surprise for me was the new Roland.

am i the only one who pissed off that at this price point, it still have the KD-10, VH-10 and the small cymbals? and on top of that just a 10" floor tom (i can understand the high tom and low tom being 10", but not the floor tom). i mean, the only things that justify the price here are the ride and snare, and the module that have 28 output channels and many aux outputs for expansion, but the rest? should be in the td17kvx in my opinion. look at ATV for example. if we will put the ride and snare aside for a moment, at this price point you can get the aDrums, which are great! and just a bit more than half of the price you can get the ATV EXS-5, which has better pads and cymbals (again, excluding the ride and snare), and way better kick drum. and youd think that if you go up the price, it will be fine, but no! even in the vad506 they still include the VH-10! why roland??? why are you so expensive??? and i dont want to hear that they are expensive because its the quality, again the ATV pads and cymbals are just better even in the EXS-5 (there are a few videos here talking about it)

One of the most annoying things about Roland is the kick drums. I use Trick Dominator pedals. If you haven't ever played them they are really wide. They don't physically fit on the kd10. And since the Roland 22 kick drums have the same size sensor it doesn't even kit one those. Its the one thing that keeps me from buying an electronic drum set

So I've come back to reiterate how amazing the TD27 is...my God this thing has endless capabilities, the amount of options you have with creating your own sounds is crazy and I beat the shit out of it everyday for atleast 3 hours minimum and they just work and feel so expensive, comparing the feel of the alesis kit versus the roland kit it just feels so much more expensive, it is so responsive and I'm just gushing over it becaus I play it everyday have barely scratched the surface on its capabilities and I am just astonished at how awesome this kit is. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a kit that will last a lifetime and can be expanded on easily, save your money its worth the wait. My phone is auto paired so as soon as I turn my module on I can play KZbin videos spotify through my speakers and headset play along with songs and record on the fly seperate tracks its so sick lol 😆 I'm loving it. It sounds amazing, people talking bout sounds 9 out of 10 are listening through their phone speaker and have never even tried it in real life. I own the roland vh300 headphones each sound is so crisp so smooth and you can edit endlessly to get that custom sound. So people saying you need a vst instead of the td27 module sounds are crazy. The stock sounds have endless editing options and can be brought to life and made your own with ease.
