Lies Section: The 3rd tom on the TD25kv Is actually a 10 inch PDX-100 drum pad. Also I was half right about the number of kits. There are only 18 kits or different sounds, but there son extra empty slot adding the total up to 36.

should add that Roland also have 18 more drum sets for download off their site that are pretty good for the TD-25. It's a pretty painless load too, simply format thumb drive off the menu on the brain and copy over a folder from your pc.

I get that you're tall... but LOGICALLY speaking, all drummers should want SMALLER -everything (since drums are THE most inefficient of all instruments) ,for many obvious reasons.

65 Drums Hey man I was wondering if you could help I'm looking into buying the TD25KV but I'm not sure whether to get the td-25KV tor or the TD25KV. I know both drum sets are basically the same Except for the fact that the 25KVV tour has different pads for The toms And an additional crash cymbal. I noticed the the pads that come with the TD25KV are similar to the TD11 except for the snare which is the PDX 100. But The thing I'm wondering is I had a chance to play on ATD11 for an entire semester and I hated The way the pads felt. But I never had a chance to mess with the tension of the pads. I Figured if I went with just the 25KV i would just buy the extra symbol because I like that the 25KVV tor comes with the extra cymbal. Should I go with the 25KV or just go with the V tour? I know it's about a $500 Jump between both kits but I'm the type of person that would prefer not to spend extra if it doesn't make any sense for me to. Any info would be awesome. thanks

That video was needed! Well described! I would like you to make a video comparing the aD5 with TD-25 and 2Box module. They are all in the same price range. One thing. The TD-25 does not have 3x 8" toms. It has a PDX-100 as floor tom (same pad as the snare).

I could be wrong about this but I believe the TD25kv has a pdx100(10" pad) for the floor tom as well as the snare. I have a TD25k and it comes with the pdx6(rack toms) and a pdx8(floor tom) pad which are not as nice as the pd85's and pdx100 on the kv model. That being said what Justin says about the solid feel of playing a Roland kit is soooo damn true. I know they are expensive but if you are serious about drumming you really gotta go Roland. I'm super happy I did.

I was put off the Alesis by the early adopter problems they were having. The TD25KV was the end decision that was made. I think Alesis need to adopt much more rigorous testing, especially when releasing a "flagship" as it is supposed to represent the companies standards as a whole. They aren't a bad company, just a bit reckless sometimes.

I have the TD-25 and this is TOO TRUE. great points about being twice the cost for advancement. THANK YOU for teaching me the difference between Highhat 10 and 11. The 11 is AWESOME. Worth every penny. E drums are kind of in a world of their own. If you don’t already know how to play it’s a lot of money just to have a set thats fun with headphones on. Most people I come a crossed have tried and failed at some instrument or another before finding what they enjoy

Justin, I've actually owned a TD-25k (for 2 weeks) then returned it and upgraded to the TD-25kv. I had that for just under 60 days before returning it (I purchased at GC with pro coverage). During the time I had the 25kv, I really enjoyed it. I thought it was a great set. I mastered the module quickly. The set build is really solid, but the biggest problem I had with the set was lack of expandability. As the 25kv comes with a 2nd crash, that left only one input left and you can't assign separate sounds to the head/rim or bow/edge. To overcome that obstacle, I bought a TM-2, a BT-1 and a cy-12. I ran the TM-1 output into the aux of the TD-25 module. However, then I lost the ability to run my phone or iPad into the unit for play along, so I went out and bought a small 6-channel mixer. Then I had to buy a stand and a mount for the mixer and all the additional cabling. When all was said and done, I didn't like any of the sounds on the TM-2 except the stacked cymbal. Having lots of sound libraries, I loaded a ton of cymbals (wav files) on an SD card and plugged that into the TM-2. The sounds were ok, but limited to single sample hits… not worth all the money I spend on all the add-ons. Seeing the writing on the wall, I immediately rebooted everything up, returned it and ordered a TD-30k kit. The upgrades to the TD-25kv were over 500.00 bringing the grand total to over 3,000.00. I got a good deal on the TD-30k and paid 3,400.00. I don't regret it. The td-30 is far superior in every way. There are no limitations for expandability. Head and rim can be assigned separate sounds, there are extra inputs, all drums and cymbals have absolute control over sound modeling and and has 3 band eq (the td-25 has 2-band), compression, master compression, a mixer, sequencer, midi in/out, a 12 inch snare, 3 10 inch toms and Roland is now shipping the TD-30k with the MDS-50k rack and a separate DW3000 snare stand (guess they don't make the MDS-12 anymore). I went to Vics Drum Shop in Chicago (the most awesome drum shop in the country btw) and picked up an extra pd-125 for an additional floor tom. Bottom line: the TD-25kv is an awesome sounding and playing drum set, but has too many limitations, and for the additional cost and of expanding, I would highly recommend going with the TD-30k if your budget allows it. I just couldn't swing the TD-50, but I'm happy with the 30-k right now. If you're serious and passionate about drumming, then the additional money will be well worth the investment. The TD-30 has been out for some time, but I look at that as a positive as it has lasted this long for a reason: it is well built, versatile and sounds great.

I think the analogy between guitars and electronic drums is not valid. The problem with electronic drums it that there is planned in obsolesence. You buy a Steinway piano, that piano will last the test of time. You may have to get it restrung every five to ten years but it maintains its value long term which is the same for accoustic sets as well. I figured the TD30 would have stayed the flagship for Roland until 2019 but they replaced it with the TD50. If you bought that Gibson or the Steinway, would you still play it in 2027 or 2037, sure you would. However, the TD30, 50 or 25 will be considered stagnant old or mediocre in a short 3 or 4 years. I thought my TD20 was the bomb when I got it in 2005 but then it is for the most part worthless, now. Electronic drums are like cars or even cell phones whereas Steinways, accoustic drumsets or guitars are like buying a house.

I hear you brother. This is the philosophical difference between now and when Electronic Drums were first created. Then they were their own instrument because it was synthesis not emulation or samples. Look at videos from the 80s, almost every drummer had the simmons hex kits, roland triangle kits in their sets. Watch videos on youtube of Bill Bruford from the period or Alex Van Halen. You see people converting their accoustic kits to electric with those internal triggers... Justin, could you put mylar heads on your sonor kit to see how it sounds with those triggers inside them(acoustically)? The name of the game is versatility. In the studio, you have all of the effects to make things work but to schlep your laptop and in the middle of a song you get a blue screen your show is shot to hell. PLaying live you need to adopt a KISS mentality of keeping it simple. The truth is, Murphy is alive and well and sometimes bad juju happens.

I was debating between the TD-25kv and the Alesis Strike, it was agonizing as it was literally just a few months ago when the talk was all about the release of the strike. I decided I couldn't wait and grabbed the 25, I'm really thankful that I did as I've heard quite a few horror stories from people that jumped on the strike, it seems it was too good to be true, for the time being at least.

@@65Drums It seems like the strike's issues are going to be tough to totally fix. Triggering is just bad. Sounds are ok, the fact you can load multi layer samples it is awesome, but it just doesn't seem to trigger well. I plugged in a td12 module and triggering was worlds better. Sad.

As you've already noted, the TD25KV comes with two 10" pads. It also supports 36 kits (6 per genre). Per genre, three of them are pre-programmed and the 3 are for user defined kits (though, the user can redefine all six). I haven't had an issue with the kick-drum moving. I use a dw3000 pedal which has velcro under it, which grabs the carpet pretty well. A couple of gripes of my own with regard to the TD25KV. 1. The snares can't be turned off. 2. I wish the metronome was more adjustable. When I get into 8th note triplets and above, with 11 identical clicks in a row (or more), it's hard to pick up the beginning of the bar. I end up using my phone most of the time. 3. The lack of expandability. I'm sure I'll think of more after I post this.
@65Drums
@65Drums 7 жыл бұрын
+Malachi186282 dang dude, you're doing some complex metronome patterns.
@MalachiMarvin
@MalachiMarvin 7 жыл бұрын
Really? Hmm. I can't say that I ever thought of playing triplets or 1/16th notes on the metronome as being particularly complicated. Certainly, I could just play quarter notes on the metronome, or in the case of 1/16th notes just play 1/8th notes at twice the tempo, but that's really beside the point. The metronome on the TD25 lets you select, for example, 1/16th notes. But, because it plays all the notes identically, except for 1, it's hard to catch the beginning of the bar. And, I do like to catch the beginning of the bar so I can use it to make sure I haven't gotten out of step. So, maybe my complaint isn't so much that it be more configurable but that it implement its current feature set more usefully.

Recently, I've tested both TD-25kv and TD-30k in my local music store. The questionable reliability of TD25 Module as you've mentioned is real. The big chromed knob and other knobs come loosed very easily even the kit (mesh-head) seems pristine. So, I assume that not many people has tested on it. The other side, the dirtier mesh of TD30, everything seems legit and pro-alike gear. The price then makes a hard swallow. Thanks again Justine, love your contents.

So bummed at the 'pad note numbers' in the TD-25 module for MIDI. For the crashes, they only provide bow and edge(no note for chokes) and the positional sensing feature on the PDX100 pads is useless as the module doesn't provide any midi note for the snare side(only head and rimshot notes are provided). Seriously, ROLAND?!?!?! i wonder why they chose to omit these features. Is there a way around this? Can you tell what the 'pad note numbers' are for TD 30? I don't have access to any music store to go check it out myself. I feel cheated right now with this 'dumbed down' module.

Of course, I wish Alesis would get their act together as it seems they ve always had the right "basic" idea. Bigger pads and now a very sweet "acoustic" looking Strike Pro for an extremely reasonable price. Alas, I ll probably end up spending the bigger buck$$ on a Roland kit. Roland s durability n edrum sounds combined are still Top notch. Thanks again Justin!!

Great video! I just subscribed. Question: I have an V-Custom and TD-8 module kit I bought new in 2002. Is my TD-8 obsolete compared to a new T-25 Module? Also, is my 8” KD-80 nylon mesh kick pad inferior to the newer, cloth-like KD-9 kick pad? I ask because you say the old KD-120 kick pad is superior to the KD-9 kick pad. My 8” KD-80 mesh pad’s response and feel are just like the 12” KD-120 pad (minus the size difference). tried out a new TD-25KV kit last night and may buy it for $2500. Thanks. 😜👍🏻

@chaseallsup10
@chaseallsup10 7 жыл бұрын
Maybe you can help me with this question since you own a TD-30 module. I've owned a TD-25 and a TD-4 module for about 2 years now. The TD-4 lets you assign any input as any pad type. (ex. setting "tom 2" as a side snare or an extra cymbal). However, the TD-25 does not let you do this. The TD-25 only lets cymbal inputs be set as cymbals and tom inputs be set as toms (which I have learned to dislike a ton). Does the TD-30 have this same problem? If not, i'm considering upgrading.
@65Drums
@65Drums 7 жыл бұрын
+Chase Allsup you can assign any sound to any input with the td30, and separate sounds to the rim and head zones too.

Good job Justin,every time I have a question about edrums ,your latest vid answers the questions ! I'm getting worried about this, are your physic !! you are right to push the roland kit, they are there when you press the on button,fact! Style is very personal, and to me as one who will never play in a band or are restricted in space, loudness , and peer pressure,the small kits are a blessing. In fact,I must admit to using an spdsx, long silence and aghast reaction, What........Yup theres 9 pads, ohh just the same as a td25! add to my td 11, well I like the sounds!

I just came back from another store (I'm lucky to be on the road a lot of the day at times) and played again with the TD25kv and Yamaha dtx700. They pretty much had the same pad sizes. I walked away feeling like I'm missing something, I liked the DTX heads better. Just felt more like a real drum head.Something about the bounce of the Rolands just seem unnatural and too soft yet too bouncy at the same time. Maybe I should have grabbed a drum key to see if it improved things...Yamaha seems to be discounting all there higher end products, is there rumours of a new release coming soon? The current modules seem to have been around for quite a while.....

My only thing i disagree with on this video is discontinuing 8" pads I love having a 8" high tom my ideal kit will be a 8,10,12,14, and 16 toms with a 18x14 or 18x16 kick. Having more options are never a bad thing. Besides some guys still like saving space and using smaller pads

Using USB midi out on the 25kv module into Reaper with the EZdrummer VST (Win10 - I should add), the drum notes are barely audible and increasing the gain in either Reaper or EZdrummer results in horrible peaking/distortion/clipping, etc. Could any of you lovely people on the internet help me out here? Also, thanks for the video, Justin! Obligatory "you basically got me into electronic drums" thank you.

From what I've heard, the Roland snares and Hi hats sound the most playable and Musical. But I can't tell if the foot chick and splash are velocity sensitive? I would love to put a cymbal on the high hat that has a bell, because it needs it. It would also be nice if I could put a ride cymbal pad in the crash input so that I could have a bell on the left too. As sophisticated ( and expensive ) as the Roland drums are, you would think they would at least give you bells on all the cymbals, and three zone drum pads, like the Yamaha, But the Yamaha does not sound very good, by that I mean the articulation doesn't translate to what you actually played, even though they are a great Drum and hardware company. I want to be excited about the TD 50, but besides the fact that I can't afford them, the snare drum sounds really weird to me. It sounds like the head is a half inch thick, and the snare wires are choking the drum, even though you're hearing the virtual sound. I also can't figure out if you can add snare wire sympathy to the other drums, the way real acoustic drums vibrate? I haven't seen anybody mention that.

A cable snake is a multi pin connector that plugs into the drum module and from that snakes out 9 or 10 cables that you hook up to your pads and cymbals where as a standard module you have quarter inch connectors to go into the module into each cymbal and pad I just bought a td 25 but I still wish it had individual plug in because if one goes bad how are you going to replace the cable connector to the module to the cymbal if it goes up get a spare cable snake which I got.

Living in Canada (Prices are essentially double or close to it) my music store wanted 3 grand for a new TD-25K... not the KV. But they took in a TD30K Very lightly from a guy that added on TD30KV snare, bt-1 and a extra CY12C and they were selling it for a grand more.
