Great review thanks. The beauty of the Autosleeper Kingham compared to virtually every other van conversion, is not only do you get a fixed double bed, but a proper lounge area at the front. Perfect for stretching out! A lot of van for the money.

Would love to know some more practical details. Does the chassis have any tech like lane keeping assist? What does the toilet empty to, a cassette, or is there a black tank? Any generator, or lithium battery options? Water tank size and heater capacity? What does the stove and fridge run off? Sorry I know you can't include everything but I'd love to hear more, the price compare to models available in the US is very cheap.

Quick look at the Autosleepers website says yes, it’s on a 3500kg basis. Has just under 400kg of payload. One driver and some fuel usually included in the base weight so that’s 400kg for passenger , luggage,food,etc, which is probably fine. You can probably get it ‘up plated’ to increase the payload but then you’ll need a C1 driving licence ( which you’ll have anyway if you passed in the U.K. before 1997). You’ll also pay more for things like toll roads in France if you have it up plated but does mean you can carry crates of wine and not worry about being pulled over onto a weighbridge!

It's all nicely done, no doubt. Personally I would prefer to buy a Fiat Ducato 180 at the current actual price of 21K GBP (after discount), which would leave me with a budget of 45K GBP for the interior and accessories. But not everyone wants a DIY project, which is where companies like Kingham come in.

I'm not so overkeen on the shower in these types of motor homes, the water sprays everywhere and if someone needs to use the toilet after you have taken a shower, it all has to be dried first, not very practical.

So frustrating.... Why do all these equivalent vans cost almost double this in the US.... ?
@Mens-Wisdom3 жыл бұрын
Can anyone explain how owning one of these is cost effective? By my calcs, even if you use it every day of the year, with depreciation, park up fees, etc it doesn’t work out much cheaper than a nice family run hotel / b&b (breakfast included) rate per day? I take it it is the novelty rather than the value for money folks are looking for?
@MOTAHOLIC3 жыл бұрын
A tent would be cheaper than a b&b. Staying at home and camping under the stairs even cheaper than a tent! You're right, if your only consideration is spending as little as you possibly can, you probably won't be buying one of these. 🙂
@Mens-Wisdom3 жыл бұрын
Well the intent would not be ‘spending as little as you possibly can’ ,rather doing as much touring as possible in the best comfort possible for the same money. Really enjoy your channels btw including AQUAHOLIC.

I owned a Kingham for 18 months. Firstly the bed is tiny, not really big enough for 2 adults for more than a few nights. Plus the corner is cut off so even if ur just over 5ft ur legs hang out. The access to the under bed storage from the rear doors is frankly pathetic. And if uve got bedding and maybe something else on the bed its really hard to lift. The lpg tank is hopeless if ur off EHU in the winter. Gas will last about a week and then u can't get it anywhere. Build quality is average. German vans are way better. Its an ok van for 1. Or 2 for short trips in Nice weather. Its very cramped inside. These reviews are pointless if the reviewer hasn't used the van in real world conditions
