Using a kit from Captainfab, available online, I installed power brakes on my 66 Chevy. I used a booster from a S-10 Blazer. Junkyard sourced. It was an easy swap, I did it in about 2 hours. Check captain fab out, he has many other brackets available.

Great Instructional video. I think I like the idea of welding the brake rod compared to using threaded ends. The sleeve for added security was a good tip.

awesome! the bolt under the dash that holds the brake rod,on a 1985 k 10 there is a bracket that holds that bolt, in case it loosens up,it also activates the brake lights-peace

Nice Job, I Personally would Rather have manual brakes, I like having the extra Room under the hood. I'm probably the odd man out , but even though I've broken both my legs it Doesn't bother me to have manual brakes. I Bought a 84 4x4 in December to restore from Montana, nice and Solid!! It's Got Power brakes and I've had a hell of a time getting used to it!! Nice Truck Keep up the Great Work.

listen to this; If take a 20oz plastic bottle and some clear tubing that fits over your bleeder, drill a hole in bottle cap for the tubing, fill the bottle 1/4 full of brake fluid, place tubing thru hole to the bottom of bottle, place other end on bleeder and open now pump your peddle to push air out of line. It works, I hope you understand my logic, one man bleeder.

An easy way to bleed the breaks on a Chevy is to use a oil squirt can and a rubber hose connect to bleader and pump break fluid into it. You will not have a mess, and you can do this by your self!!!

Pardon my ignorance but why do you need the bracket instead of just mounting the booster right on the firewall? Does it just give more length for the pushrod? Wanted to add booster to my 66.
@MrHevyshevy
@MrHevyshevy 3 жыл бұрын
It just lines everything up on old bracket and makes it mate with s10 booster in a bolt on fashion. It’s already figured out.

@@MrHevyshevy thanks for the reply. Are there not other factory boosters that bolt right up to the 66 though?
@vflrockytop
@vflrockytop 7 жыл бұрын
I've got a question. I've never done a power brake swap. what's the purpose of the adapter plate? can you not simply drill the booster bolt holes in the firewall and have it flush with the firewall like a factory setup? like I said I've never done the swap.
@Captainfab406
@Captainfab406 7 жыл бұрын
Some people do just drill holes in the firewall and bolt up whatever booster they may have whether is has a factory mounting bracket or not. There are a couple reasons that may not work. One is that the firewall is not flat on the inside. There are stiffening ribs and other raised areas where your new holes may end up. That is not ideal. Secondly, the brake booster/master assembly needs to be securely bolted to the pedal bracket under the dash. This is best done using the factory attachment points as designed by GM engineers. If the booster/master assembly is not securely attached to the pedal bracket, the two could separate when you stand on the brakes. That is when your brakes will not work like you need them to. Essentially, your auto brakes is not somewhere you want to cut corners or take chances.
