Thank you Eddy. Yet another inspiring film from you. You have collected some amazing snapshots of your journey and met some very ordinary but truly interesting people on the way. We all tend to miss out on those chances to stop and talk to others in our daily lives unless we are either cycling or walking the dogs. Cheers!

Thank you, David ! That's exactly the reason why I've always kept my daily life in the cycling and walking the dogs modus as much as possible. So whenever I wasn't travelling myself I kind of invited the world into my house. Very satisfactory ! Thanks for watching the film. 😊

A lovely video, thanks Eddy. Freedom and independence, and meeting people from all sorts of backgrounds and experiences. France is such a wonderful country away from the cities. You're very lucky. The "old flip-flop, oscillating back and forth between the 2" ways of life and experiences. C'est moi aussi Eddy. 73 years young and more than 30 of them spent between Nice and Graz in the mountains on my bike, and sometimes further afield from Nordkapp to Siracusa. We've been so fortunate Eddy in the period we've lived and where we were born. We should acknowledge that last point especially. Thanks from Auckland Tamaki Makaurau, Aotearoa New Zealand
@65andbackonthebikeКүн бұрын
Thank you, Brian. Well I think apart from being lucky it's also about following your heart and passion, and making the (sometimes not easy) choices that enables you to do just that. At 73 and apparently having lived an interesting life yourself you will know what I'm talking about. Thanks for watching the film. 😊👍

It's good to hear from you again Eddy! Is that a new bike? You have gotten farther than I have this year, though I had to take time to care for an ailing friend for five months - he was, as it happens, a Great Pyrennes, giving us some connection between continents. At 72, I rode just a touch under 2000 kilometers in 2024. I'm hoping for a bit of adventure in 2025. Keep riding!

Nice one! I've tried cycle camping the last couple of years, the feeling of movement, of being 'on the road is incredible to me. That said i've found sleeping difficult even after 13 hours in the saddle but hopefully my new mattress will help and ill be able to do it more and for longer and who knows, maybe i could get to France though I've never been, would love to ride up one of the great climbs in the Alps but maybe with all that weight it wouldn't be fun at all. Ha
@rachelanne94862 күн бұрын
Thank you Eddy. At one point in your video I saw some sort of switch unit at the headstock of your bicycle. Is that for switching power from a dynamo to different devices? If so, can you give me details, as I want something like that and a charge-through battery for my touring bike, but cannot find anyone in the UK who is familiar with dynamos and associated accessories.
@65andbackonthebike2 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching, RachelAnne. What you saw is a bicycle usb recharger, to recharge phone or battery pack while riding. Quite useful when you do a lot of wild camping like me. Works well when you can keep more or less a constant speed from 15km/h onwards, but less effective with frequent changes in speed like when going up and down all the time or cycling in urban areas. www.amazon.de/-/en/Kemo-172-Bicycle-Charger-KEMO/dp/B00DF4JOIM

I will decide when I am there, have you got any tips for my first big cycling adventure Eddy ?

@65andbackonthebike2 күн бұрын
Hello cousin Albert ! I actually don't use any navigation device at all while on the road. I'm old school, using paper maps, on which I sometimes have marked my chosen itinerary that I found on a variety of websites way before I leave. Happy preparation! Where will you be going..?
@albert2395Күн бұрын
@65andbackonthebike Hi again Eddy! I have actually got the whole of south east England and other parts of the east Midlands, lake district parts of the peaks too on Ordnance Survey maps. @65andbackonthebike12 сағат бұрын
Well, I'm retired now so no problem about funding. But even before that, when I hardly had any income at all, I still found ways to travel. After all travelling longtime on a bike, wild camping a lot, and using hospitality websites is cheaper than living a conditioned life in a house. If funding is an obstacle, then there's one good piece of advice: think way out of the box... 🙏
