1967 Fords Rode Hard! [Commercials of Durability]
The Ford Galaxie is a full-sized car that was built in the United States by Ford for model years 1959 through to 1974. The name was used for the top models in Ford's full-size range from 1958 until 1961, in a marketing attempt to appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space Race. For 1962, all full-size Fords wore the Galaxie badge, with "500" and "500/XL" denoting the higher series. The Galaxie 500/LTD was introduced for 1965 followed by the Galaxie 500 7-Litre for 1966. The Galaxie 500 prefix was dropped from the LTD in 1966, and from the XL in 1967;[2] however the basic series structuring levels were maintained. The "regular" Galaxie 500 continued below the LTD as Ford's mid-level full-size model from 1965 until its demise at the end of the 1974 model year.[3]: 401-42

=============================
Description of Ford Mustang taken from Wikipedia "The first-generation Ford Mustang was manufactured by the Ford Motor Company from April 1964 until 1973. The introduction of the Mustang created a new class of automobiles known as the pony car. The Mustang’s styling, with its long hood and short deck, proved wildly popular and inspired a host of imitators. It was initially introduced as a hardtop and convertible with the fastback version put on sale the following year. At the time of its introduction, the Mustang, sharing its underpinnings with the Falcon, was slotted into a compact car segment."
Obviously, I do not own this content. I repost it as a ongoing museum and tribute, a testament to the greatest generation in automobile manufacturing history, EVER.

So interesting to see how the commercials for cars have changed. Auto makers would brag about how well they handled and how tough they were, today they just tell you how compatible their infotainment system is with your phone.

Had a hand me down station wagon. I was 5th recipient. Before I got it, it had been in at least 3 accidents (totaled twice, frame straightened once) the only time it let me down was on a 500 mile trip where on the return trip I was unable to find leaded gas and the car died 30 miles from home. I let it cool down for about an hour, then finished my trip. Lead substitute and 106 octane boost kept the car going for a couple of years. The frame finally broke while hauling carpets. I still have the 390 motor(173,000 miles) and the C-6 tranny.

If anyone's wondering whether the ad agency drinking antics in "Mad Men" were for real, this should put it to rest. The "let's strap a car to a barge and send it down the river" idea probably happened after the sixth shot.

Holy cow, these commercials are the rarest ones that got made for 67 Ford's that I've been waiting to see, I figured that with time, these would be gone, so glad to see them, you sure can't do that to new cars, you'd bottom out the suspension, & break the bumpers off, unlike these tough 67 Galaxies!!!

Had glasspack dual exhaust, all it needed was some interior TLC and It would have been right near a perfect car. It even had a set of the old Magnesium American racing wheels! yes they were corroded and obviously the real deal but nothing a little cleaning wouldnt take care of. I didnt buy it due to it being a big block and my financial situation wasnt the best to drive a 390 4bbl daily. Yall wont even believe the price I could have got it for but Ill tell it anyway. $1200 without the mags and $1500 with the mags. Yes i know i should have bought the car LOL

The good news is that cars are more reliable now than back in the day. I've got a 99 Mustang GT, I take care of it, and in 22+ years I've had to replace the plugs (once) the clutch (once) brakes (once) the IAC valve, one COP, the struts that hold up the trunk, and a problem with the intake manifold meant that had to be replaced. Other than normal consumables, those are the only repairs in 22 years. That's a repair every three years.

@21stcenturyfossil7 2 жыл бұрын
Unibody cars are stiffer, body on frame vehicles are more flexible. Trucks need that flex to avoid breaking, body on frame cars use that flex to isolate noise and harshness from the interior. Ford was going big for a soft, quiet ride in the late 60s and I suspect they wanted to pushback against the claim that they were making weaker cars, especially compared to the unibody cars from Chrysler. If you want to see a really strong unibody car from the 30s, check out this, especially at the 3:50 mark: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHfPZqN7mpJqq9E Note that on the later Ford tests, it's the cars soft springs that keep the car from being damaged. As far as modern cars go, all cars, body on frame or unibody, are designed to protect the passengers at the cost of keeping the car together.

I've noticed something missing from all these vintage ads. And that's the warnings at the bottom of the screen, that say "Do not attempt" " Professional driver on closed course" I bet TV dinners didn't say " Product will be hot" and lawn mowers didn't warn You to not touch the spinning blade. What happened ??

Back when America knew how to make beautiful cars and commercials. Damn! American cars are now much like N.F.L. games and uniforms. Ugly and Hideous. Ahhh! When American consumer goods were made by Americans for Americans and the rest of the world. With a few exceptions from Germany, England, Italy and Japan.

Aaaaand, this is why the Japanese kicked our butts in the auto market over the next 20 years. Ford was building gas guzzlers that would struggle to go 100k miles and got 10 mpg. Honda was about to introduce the Civic, which got 35 mpg and lasted over 200k miles.

I have great nostalgic love for our '67 station wagon and Ranchero and the Galaxy 500's of that era that were my friends' first cars, but that's a dose of reality with long-reaching consequences.

1. Back when the Colorado actually had water. Some places today, you wouldn't need the raft. 2. Fortunately car makers only try vertical headlights for one generation (65-67 in Ford's case).
