I heard a caller the day this guy was hired purposely mispronounce his name to call him “Everlose”. He wanted the MN coach instead. I don’t know who the guy was, but he used to call the 1st year of Eberflus constantly say that and Bernstein couldn’t stand him… the staff used to say, give Matt a chance. Haven’t heard that guy call in years he sounded old as hell but he was right. Unfortunately it was worse than probably that collar or anyone else ever thought, because not only was it the losing but it was losing in such an embarrassing wife time after time I really can’t even believe we got to this point. So awful.

I think the majority of fans knew he wasn't the guy to coach this team. Personally I didn't care because the team was going to be bad and I honestly thought he was the guy for this team to tank for a couple years. But I was furious last off-season when he wasn't fired. Because I thought this team was now ready to win. And by drafting your franchise qb you would think he would paired him with a new coach to start fresh. Poles messed that one up.

Not only did Eberflus and the Bears leave a TO on the field they also left a down on the field. Worst case scenario: even if the bomb to Odunze fails on 3rd down (which it did) at least you'd get one more shot at the endzone with a few seconds left. They even failed that.

There were 6 or 7 bad or questionable calls by the refs that went against the Bears, several of which the announcers clearly saw. Yes a few calls went our way, but the effect on the game wasn't as big. In general, it just seems like we get more than our fair share of bad calls: the horse collar on Kyler Gordon, the uncalled pass interference on Swift near the end of the game and the roughing the passer on Caleb Williams when he clearly had two feet out of bounds but was hit (same play the ref was hurt by tackler), the punt downed at the one yard line but where the player's foot truly seemed to roll into the end zone just before rolling back out, and several others that don't come to mind right now. All of them could have been game changing moments. It's been similar in several of the games we've lost, but with all the pre-snap penalties, rookie mistakes and coaching blunders, we aren't good enough to overcome poor officiating and bad luck yet. To be a serious playoff contender, you have to be able to do that. On the bright side, we can console ourselves that Eberflus wasn't the guy we wanted tested with these things in a playoff run. Glad he was tested mid-season and his decision-making exposed. Great guy, but too many bad decisions.. Making the playoffs and then being burned by his decision-making would have been even more frustrating. At least now we get a better draft pick. #1 three years in a row anyone?

The way this was done allowing Eberflus to have his Zoom call, tells me Poles didn't want to fire him but was forced to by Kevin Warren. Perhaps it took Warren some time to get details worked out explaining how this would unfold. It also tells me Poles is a poor evaluator of talent at the coaching level and it would have made sense to launch both of them.
@benoitwaffle54392 күн бұрын
The Bears being the Bears, it could just be that Poles and Warren wanted to meet with Eberflus to give him the news at their typical day after the game meeting before letting anyone in the building know before hand. They just did not consider that Matt had a 9AM press availability.

I believe Matt intentionally made these bad coaching blunders in order to get himself fired. I'd like to think that Warren said to Poles "if 'fluss doesn't go now you may be following him out of the door and I'll bring in my own GM". Personally I'd like to see Poles go. The OL, Velus Jones, Claypool, Davis, drafting injury prone players, getting nothing for Fields, letting Montgomery go, wasting an amazing amount of salary cap space, the list goes on. I don't trust him to draft wisely, or in free agency. I think in a years time we'll be in the same position again. It's a shitshow roundabout.

Flus should not have been hired in the first place. I remember when he got hired no one knew who he was; even the guys on the radio didn't know him. They hired a guy who had mediocre defenses with the Colts. They hired him because he ran the same defense Lovie ran and he was a super nice guy. I don't care what Poles says, I still think ownership pushed him into hiring Flus. What's he supposed to say? Of course he's going to say he wanted Flus.
@jasonhicks8002 күн бұрын
He was already hired before Bears hired Poles so EberLose wasn’t his coach. I don’t think it was Poles decision to keep him this past offseason either. The ones that hired EberLose didn’t want to fire him and still pay him and a new coach.

Trace Armstrong is a well-connected agent who also played for the Bears, so George has known him for a long time. It is not a coincidence that Poles and Eberflus were his clients. He sold them as a tandem. When the Bears needed a new OC, they went for Trace Armstrong client Shane Waldron. It is worth following who in the upcoming job search is represented by Armstrong. If Lincoln Riley is looking to get out from under the heat of things not going well at USC, guess who represents him. If the next month doesn't go well for Ryan Day, well looky looky.
@tastyfishsauce44102 күн бұрын
As a long time Bears fan, I feel that Poles had the chance to break the cycle but he did not by retaining Flus knowing full well that he is drafting QB number 1 overall. So firing him is is one and only true "GET OUT OF JAIL" card and he better be carefull who he hires next because the next firing will include him. If the Bears ownership/upper management announces they are putting another "committee" to do the next HC hiring, you know the cycle is still spinning and the rebuild will be on again within the next 3-4 years. Poles having used his last card will be gone. I like Poles but his mistakes are starting to compound in a negative way. Claypool, that's a 2nd round pick gone, Davis, that's clearly a bad judgement of character (Vrabel told you so), Velus, was given all the chances that took opportunities from other players development or a better draft choice, Flus ver 2.0, retaining him- because the defense showed promise, yes they did but also look at the talent/money/draft invested in the group. Is it Flus or the players he had that made a better than decent group. TB got the opportunity of a lifetime, if he wins 3 out of last 5 means he'll be in the considereations (plus a backing from QB1). Otherwise, this could be a career killer if he does not succeed, he will be climbing a nearly vertical hill and it will be an unfair position to be put on and judged. Warren has failed to meet an acceptable timeline on his stadium project, so far he is not pulling his own weight in relation to his title. George, well he luckily has the Halas/McCaskey bloodline and that is the root of all the organizational problem. But owners never get fired, an exempt (sort of) to criticsm of nepotism with only 2 choices, give it to another family member or sell the team. Bear down!

Your headline is wrong and your narrative is wrong. It was not an "embarrassing loss." Getting clobbered by New England at home was an embarrassing loss. The Thanksgiving game in Detroit was a solid performance against a top-notch opponent. Was it Eberflus' fault that the team burned a timeout earlier in that final drive? Was it Eberflus' fault that his QB and OC couldn't find a way to run more than one play in 30 seconds? Yes, he should have called a timeout. But it probably doesn't change the outcome. And it was Thomas Brown's offense that produced untimely penalties and sacks, along with poor clock management that led to a dismal end to that game. And yet Eberflus gets blamed and kicked out, while Brown gets promoted. Welcome to Chicago Bears logic.

This franchise is in such disarray that no college draft pick no head coach candidate nor any free agent player will ever want to play for this team and no amount of money will be enough for anyone! Chicago is the team to avoid like the plague!!

Mark grote why are you so adamant about Thomas Brown not being a head coaching candidate when you witness like we all have in Chicago, him turn around the offense from the dumpster fire that was Shayne Waldron. You do this for click bait I don't get you, you're like an high school reporter that right stories about "no leadership in the lunchrooms" f'n joke

Because Thomas Brown is black probably. Williams has all of a sudden looked much better since Brown took over as OC. These guys are idiots
