Anybody that watches your video's knows that you can back a trailer in with the best of them! We head into the spots too sometimes. Cheaper to fix a trailer than to replace a hood! Stay safe!!

I like to pull in also if the right spot is available, I’ve had my hood, mirrors, bumper hit by swinging trailers and that is a giant time waster.

Anyone giving grief about driving in parking doesn't own their truck or hasn't watched how terrible some drivers are at backing. Big fan Dan, I've learned a lot from your videos.

Yep, been across i40 a bunch of times, spent a few days because of a truck accident and deep snow back in the early 90’s - I use to work for a company that a driver used his Jake brake in the yard, the owner was standing outside with the shop manager- and he asked him what that noise was. And he told him, and he told the shop manager to turn them All Off, he said he only wants drivers that can drive anywhere without one, then I’ll put them back in so they know I appreciate them. And I understand- drivers abuse them a lot - I’ve been down a lot of mountains without one- including Jacobs ladder, the Cabbage, Donners pass, Black mountain, are just a few. 4th of July pass, is another- I’ve run all the lower 48 states for that company- without a jake brake. Believe Me, you check those Brakes, All the Time, I carried my wrench in my back pocket. I knew a few drivers that had clips on there’s that clipped on there keys. And yes you can drive down a mountain a 1000 times to slow, but drive to fast once. It’s a Scary feeling to push on the peddle and it feels mushy. You have a death grip on the steering wheel and the seat - I’m a Rocking Chair rocker now. I feel sorry and say a prayer for the ones out there now. God Bless, y’all stay Safe. 🤠🐾♥️🙏🏻🇺🇸🌲🍀🦨

Dan Dan the professional flat deck man. I would imagine most of your comments from viewers on you pulling in and not backing in is mostly from people who are not drivers of semi’s. Most have never been in the parking area for trucks and never get to see how unprofessional some of the semi drivers are. Every year there are more trucks on the road and more drivers just getting into trucking and don’t have a lot of experience yet. Yup I did that one time, drove down the hill to fast. It was a very scary experience and I never repeated that again. Driving 20 miles per hour slower for 5 minutes never hurt anyone, but driving faster has killed so many. Another great video Dan. Have a great and a safe day. Happy trails and happy motoring.

I remember back in the 70's when I was too young to ask any prying questions, my dad drove a truck for Empire (local CAT dealer) that had a weird hydraulic brake that Caterpillar was using on their engines at the time. His Peterbuilt/Cummins had a Jake brake, but the truck he drove with the Cat had a different setup for engine braking. Good to see that Caterpillar ended up just using the Jake brake instead of their own engine braking system.

Stabbing the brakes to slow down generates an incredible amount of heat. Takes a loooong time to cool off. Right gear, and light steady brake pressure, if needed. The old guy who taught me 30 plus years ago told me, then demonstrated. Had both of our trailer brakes start smoking from stabbing them to slow down. Took over a half hour to stop smoking, and if we would have stopped, they would have caught fire. A very important lesson.

I wondered about pulling in also because of backing out into the driveway of the truck stop, but protecting your hood makes perfect sense. I was an o/o many years ago and when it is yours, you think totally different than when you drive someone else’s. Brilliant Super Trucker Dan! I have been in the trucking industry for almost 50 years, only 15 as a driver, and I see you do very few stupid things or things without a reason.
