I don't know how many trucks they used in this movie, but I doubt it was more than one or two. I suspect it/they where equipped with the optional Heavy Duty Special package-aimed at the construction industry-that essentially turned these F series trucks into Sherman tanks. My grandfather bought a new '69 F-100 Ranger with that package for his construction business, beat the crap out of it, and it was still running when he died in 1991. These things where absolute beasts. You couldn't kill them.

At least two different trucks are used in the movie. Sometimes there's a filler neck for an in cab gas tank, and other times there is not. Also, pay attention to the steering wheel. Sometimes it's blue and has a horn ring. Other times it's black and no horn ring. I believe it's blue when he's driving and black while she's driving, at least in the scenes I noticed.

From the Houston Texas Ford dealer, He works at NASA as one of the main engineers in aerospace. He drives it. And gives it to his son. And his son does like his grandfather and father. Goes to the wrecking yard. And buys beds, tailgates, lights, Engines transmissions, transfer cases. Etc. By the year 2086. The truck has gone through normal wear and tear. Of driving from Houston to Killeen in 1984. And to form their own aerospace company. And by the time the main character is born. His father has the truck. She has gone 25 million miles. She has gone from Texas to St John's New Brunswick to Fairbanks Alaska. Then on to the Panama Canal. Then she has traveled to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand on a road to healing. And 8 engines and 3 transfer cases. 2 rear and front ends. And normal routine maintenance. By the time the main character is old enough to drive. He gets the truck. And gets all receipts of maintance from Henderson's Ford in Killeen Texas. And the mechanics argue to work on her.

@@svenmartin840 LOL, maybe somewhere add a comment that the only thing still original is the frame and the doors, or something like that. 😅 You need to make one correction though…Ford NEVER put a 390 in a factory 4x4. Back when Ford trucks were the name in durability, and for regenerating headlights. An uncommon featured option that many seldom purchased due to the $80 price. @@sludge8506 NAH , It's a Ford! Fantastic! You can't kill an old Ford truck, l know l was a truck mechanic and body repair man for over 34 years at New car and truck Dealerships. We didn't make much money on Ford trucks, but Chevy , oh yeah, cause they broke down so much. On the average 7 chevy trucks would be in shop for every 1 Ford truck. But to be honest, these last few years l don't think the Ford truck is the same tough animal. Back in the early 60s l was working in a very big farm in S. California loading trailers for the Appodaca Ranch in the Coachella valley. Sometimes the tractors couldn't keep up with the loaded trailers, owners of pickups would be asked to help pull the loaded trailers (about 7 thousand lbs. Incl. trailer) from the field to packing warehouse thru the loose rows of sand and dirt , we the loaders would sit back and have fun seeing which pickup could haul out and which couldn't. Sometimes we would even place bets. All of the Fords, Internationals, most of the Dodges could pull the trailers out of the field and on down the road to the packery. Sorry to say but alot of the chevy trucks couldn't, some broke axles, driveshafts, burnt clutches, and other stuff. The only GM truck that kept working without breaking down was a 59 GMC, it had a 6 cyl motor, with three on the tree!!! The owner said it was really a 3/4 ton truck. Also he said the reason his truck pulled well on loose dirt and sand was because his 59 GMC had 3/4 ton leaf springs instead of the rear coil springs the other GM had.There were no Toyotas, Nissans trucks at that time. But yeah , l don't think these later model Ford trucks are as hard working as the older ones. My opinion.

I had a 72 F-100 in the same mint green paint. My 2016 F-350 is not as tough as that 72 F-100. It can haul more but it is not as tough as jumps of any kind would fold the suspension. @twoeightythreez5 жыл бұрын
The damaged headlight not only switched sides, (from left to right), the truck also miraculously repaired itself a few times during the chase. Yes, some if this comes from scenes being shot out of order of where they ended up in the movie, but Im sure they used more than one truck. Even if they managed it all with one truck, obviously it was repaired after each big jump. All you people thinking it just kept going are delusional.

I had a 1972 F100 and it took a beating; but if i would have drove it like that it probably would have lasted 16 minutes or i would have been DEAD! really because years ago i did take a jump like that (one in the movie with Charles Bronson) is when i hit the bottom of the jump (in a 1960 F100) i bounced off the seat 3X hitting my head on the roof top 2x and it hurt i didnot want that jump ever again. I heard long ago a stunt man that made one of those big jumps died in that pickup truck. I wonder how many of those pickup trucks they totaled out? It's a real shame too because these great old movies total out many antique collector cars and trucks. Got love that old F100's had many of them, and bought them even if they were just sitting in a old abandoned prune orchard.

A 1960 didn’t have the twin I-beam suspension (introduced in the 1965 model trucks). 3:40 - you can see the charge they used to make sure the car flipped - and the white smoke from the hole in the floorboard.

Does the truck bed come equipped with seatbelts or something?

A new ford would popped the airbags. You’d need a raptor to do that today.

Ford used the movie scenes in truck commercial but had to stop as hicks were flying trucks and claiming warranty on the damaged trucks.

Great scene, but the two trucks are 1968's, not 1969's. Fairly subtle difference on the steel grills, but the lack of reflectors under the taillights is a dead give away.

You can clearly see the truck bed moving as the chassis twisted

It's True ! so awesome! but thats all engineered in ! people don't even know like a '49 ford tractor with a truck body and a v-8 ...such a pleasing vehicle ! I've had three f series from 67-69 do a little research on the movie itself on this particular F250 camper special used in this sequence-- they tried, but they just couldn't kill it.

I remember reading a Hot Rod magazine a long time ago. It was about movie cars and how many they used during filming. I'm sure they said they only used one Ford truck in Mr. Majestic. In Bullit they bought 2 chargers but only needed one. But they went through 6 to 8 mustangs. They said everytime the mustang jumped a hill the shock towers collapsed.
@bobwhite54405 жыл бұрын
i can remember reading in a car magazine about how the mustangs were sent to a shop before the filming started to have some upgrades similar to the monte carlo bar and export brace (used on Shelby mustangs) to beef-up and triangulate the shock towers with the cowl seam at the top of the firewall. story was only three mustangs were used in the film. the least damaged escaped the crusher and is owned by somone in the U.S. Steve McQueen tried more than once to buy it ,but he wasn't successful. one of the others was crushed and the other one supposedly also escaped the crusher and turned up neglected somewhere in mexico.

Bob White ... A few weeks ago, one of the guys I work with went to Las Vegas for a big show. He showed me pictures of an authenticated Bullitt Mustang. It's in unrestored, but well preserved condition.
@bobwhite54405 жыл бұрын
@@JW...-oj5iw very interesting. the family that own's one, that wasn't interested in selling to McQueen, has supposedly shown it around the country or loaned it to a museum? maybe that's it. or the one from mexico? the magazine article i read years ago showed a photo of the custom shock tower bracing to the best of my recollection. however, it's possible only the mustangs used for stunt scenes had the shock tower mods and the one(s) used for normal scenes didn't.
