69009 'WESTERN CONSORT' Unit Drag - BOWLED by a PESKY Unit..! Plus 47841 at Crewe 25/03/24

Bad timing with a class 170 unit blocking the ideal departure shot of a very shiny looking 69009 'Western Consort' at Crewe - A quick run down the platform managed to save the second half of the departure as the Class 69 accelerated away from platform 6 at Crewe. This was the locos first unit drag since it's recent repaint into maroon class 52 colours - Taking a Class 458 unit from Widnes to Wembley.
Also seen is Intercity Swallow liveried 47841 which has arrived at LSL for component recovery from the One:One Collection at Margate via Allelys Road Transport.
A few other loco moves included also with 66732 making a rare northbound pass through platform one at Crewe.

Took me a while to release that it was the former Class 508 barrier vehicles on the Class 69's EMU drag. Still a good show in spite of that poorly-timed 170.

I caught EMR 170s on the Knotty (Derby - Crewe) when I went to the Battle of Nantwich. Return journey cancelled so LNWR to Tamworth for XC to Derby.

Got to be a toss up between Western Consort and 57 311 in jet black.... Absolutely stunning looking locomotive.. Saw it at Eastleigh a couple of days ago.

03:15 - cabsides of 66732 show aerodynamics of cab-front; don't drive with the window open, you'll get showered with shirt or dust. Still got to see 69009 in operation, despite the best efforts of the pesky unit.

Unfortunately for 47841 is at LSL for components as it's an empty shell with no engine apparently to keep the rest of his class 47s running.

It has an engine. About the only thing in it worth keeping!

@@aarphotos5 really last I read it said it was an empty shell and that was from someone at Margate where it was stored. There are quite a few articles about it.

Great video thank you very much it is great to see the 69 in Western tribute livery, it really has enhanced the loco. This is one of the locos that has drawn me to your channel. Crewe station is looking in a very sad state are there any plans do it up? Considering it is a very major interchange.

Crewe was planned to have major work as part of HS2, possibly up to a complete rebuild. Plans will have to be reworked again now
