Can't thank you enough for taking the time to post this. Can't afford to buy a new alternator. The new alternator is about 50% if the value of the vehicle. And it's a 2005 ford focus. Thanks again.

Great detailed video. I have a 2005 4.6 liter mustang gt. I have the oem alternator 4R3T-BB which has failed. I looked at your website and my year didn't show up. Do you have any kits for this alternator that may be listed on other vehicles?
@rebuilderinabox6 ай бұрын
We've skipped over that because of the clutch pulley. Usually not cost effective at home when you have to buy special tools that would probably never get used again.

I have a 89 coupe and the guy before me wired it looks like a 94 3G alternator in it. I can see that the brushes is worn with the black sut on the face of the alternator. I can drive the car for a couple miles n get on it n when it tries to idle it dies n hard to turn over, I got a jumper box and hooked it up n the motor turned over just fine, unhooked the jump box n very very slow. I have put a new battery in it and the same thing after driving it a couple miles n the alternator gets very warm also. Can you upgrade the alternator to a 6G? This is goin to be a racecar and will be pulling some volts. Thanks n God Bless!
@rebuilderinabox2 жыл бұрын
I recommend rebuilding the 3G. Better design. Make sure the battery output stud on the alternator has a heavy wire to battery +. Or diodes could be bad. Check grounds.

@rebuilderinabox2 жыл бұрын
Both have internal voltage regulators as shown in the vids. Yes, you can do that, but you will need wiring harness plugs and a basic diagram to show you which wires go where.

when you remove the metal off the rotor blades, doesnt that unbalance the assembly?
@rebuilderinabox2 жыл бұрын
Theoretically, yes. Actually, not enough to hurt anything. We only know this because we've been doing this for many years. Possibly not enough imbalance to have an effect because relatively equal amounts are removed at 180 and the fan is not a heavy component.
@quevicular2 жыл бұрын
@@rebuilderinabox thanks mike. Very cool kits that you have.

That's one thing I kept thinking through anything to do with the rotor. What does it do to balance? Those things turn pretty fast.
@rebuilderinabox2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelszczys8316 They do turn pretty fast. But the operation is not heavy enough to matter. We've done thousands and people have done hundreds at home. The proof is in the numbers, not in the theory of thought. After learning the trade, you realize centrifugal forces acting the solder joint needs to be focused on. Not the balance.

We don't offer any support for the Mitsibishi (as of yet). Possibly sometime this year. Difficult to do at home and low success rate. We are not the kind of company that will lead you down a dead end road.

How do you remove the pulley nut without an impact wrench? I haven't been successful with removing the nut with a 1/2" drive and socket and penetrating oil.
@JasonWW20002 жыл бұрын
You really need an impact gun. If you try to hold the rotor in a vice for instance, you might damage it from squeezing or twisting. Take it to a friend or a repair shop and have them zip it loose for you. Same to install it.

Is the paint on the rotor required, what's the purpose?
@rebuilderinabox5 жыл бұрын
It is not required. Regular paint would provide a little protection against oxidation. Insulating paint is the best idea for the copper coils.
@conebread585 жыл бұрын
@@rebuilderinabox oh ok so It's basically just to keep the copper from oxidizing?
@chadmeirose4 жыл бұрын
@@conebread58 Isn't the copper in the rotor enameled wire? if it wasn't it wouldn't work, Thus, it should not oxidize. The only copper that would oxidize is the parts added for the new slip ring? So this is mostly cosmetic? Is there a Bump-up (amperage) rebuild for the 6.0 Powerstroke?

Thanks for the video but it sucks that I sat through the whole thing only to find out you do not have a kit for a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria. I will still give you a thumbs up. yet I will mention heating the case to get the new bearing in can cause burns where freezing the bearing should yield the same result without the risk of burns or handling a hot part.
@rebuilderinabox5 жыл бұрын
We can't help what the OEM puts on a vehicle. Some stuff we just don't support people doing at home, due to specialized tools needed or a bad ratio cost effectiveness : Cost of kit verses cost of rebuilds. The good part about this is the purchaser can buy confidently that we have done the research, they are kits that lots of people have successfully rebuilt on their own. We sincerely hope people will handle a hot part out of the oven carefully, just as safety is always paramount with ANY automotive operation. We don't predict good results for everybody without a little heat expansion of the plate.
