Think this will be a great build. As it is a relatively unknown cartridge it will be interesting for many of us. What would also be interesting is the costs involved in such a build. Keep it up and look forward to the next stage of the build.

Yes a ball park cost or man hours to build the rifle and man hours in load development. I’m sure knowing the time it takes someone like Gavin especially the load development would ease our minds on the time and effort us novice guys spend developing loads.

I run a defiance proof 6gt, with a 120 free bore. I run a 109 lrht in alpha brass, with 35gr of h4350 at 2850fps. i found the 109's like a .065 jump, which with a 120 freebore, are seated pretty deep. my next barrel i would like to have the freebore bumped to 170, and i'd like to try some 115gr dtacs.

Staball and 6GT make for really easy high precision progressive loads. I use A-Tips and 39.5gr Staball. Use due caution when working up your loads though!

Great choice Gavin!! Have 2 6 GT’s, both on MPA Matrix Chassis, Terminus Zeus on one Curtis Custom Valor on the other. One is a 24” proof stainless using original Alpha brass with Sta-Ball and Berger 105’s running around 2960 fps. 2nd one is a 26” Bartlein running OCD Alpha and Shooters World Precision (supposed to be a Varget equivalent) loading to the same 2960 fps with Berger 105’s. Easy to load, plenty of nodes to choose from. Be cool to see this series to see how well you like the round👍👍

105 Bergers and 34.5gr of Varget have been my best load. Varget was starting to get a little low until recently. I picked up a few pounds when I found some. At $60 a pound I literally had to bite the bullet.

As for what I recommend Alpha OCD brass, CCI 450 primers, Staball 6.5, around 40gr, and 115gr DTACs

Just got my GT together. I've got Varget and 6.5 Staball for load development and matches. For barrel break in 250 of 108 ELDM over 33.0 of IMR 4064 with CCI 400 and Hornady brass for 2815 fps from 25" barrel. You should also look into getting some 109 ELDM (0.42 CPR) from GAP to save you some money vs the 110 Atips.

Gavin I went from a 6BRA to a 6xc skipped the GT . My goal was to shoot 115 class bullets . I specked my own reamer with the help of Dave Kiff to get specific measurements to my thought and needs . I went out side the Tubb specs for free bore .140 ,neck diameter.2745 and Webb one thou larger . I also have been looking at a substitute for Varget and H-4350 . I found it N-150 ,shoots lights out in 6 BR ,6BRA and XC .I have just started testing it in 6.5 Creedmoor and it looks good .Wow one powder to do all these cases with great results.I shoot 115 DTAC and 115 Berger’s with great results

I have two 6GT's - One "PRS" style gun, and one F-Open. Both are 28 inch tubes and run the same load (34.1g Varget // Berger 105, 18 thou off lands, 120 freebore) They're both match winners. The berger 105 likes to go ~ 3000-3030 in a 28 inch tube.

I bought a MPA it came with a 6.5 creedmore barrel and a 6 GT I’m tuning the creed now when I get my EC tuner brake I’ll switch barrels and tune it .

I'm using Alpha brass, CCi 450 primer, 39.2gr StaBall 6.5 pushing Lapua 105gr Scenar @ (3,028fps) out of my 26" Bartlein barrel with Area 419 Hellfire match break, Defiance Deviant tactical action, single digit ES and SD's, tiny groups at 100yards, 6-7" groups at 1,000yards! Good luck with the build. I've also had good luck with Berger 108gr Boat Tail Target and Hornady 110gr A-Tip with Varget but not the velocity of StaBall. I'll be testing N140 next, now that i have 16lbs ;)

107 SMK with 33gn of Varget and a 120 freebore. Also have 105 Berger Hybrids to try and will be similar loads. 170 freebore is only for a relatively small handful of the 6mm cartridges from what I understand

I have had great luck with Berger 109s and 6.5 staball. I run low node. I am really enjoying running a 20” mtu to get in and out of baracades. Running alpha ocd with 450 primers.

I run a 6GT & it's a pretty spectacular little cartridge. I have shot in F-Class and a small steel challenge match. It's crazy easy to load for and it shares some similarities with other 6mm cartridges. I have found that so long as the muzzle velocity is the same, then the harmonics are pretty much the same. I might see a whole 0.1" difference in group size, but on steel it makes zero difference what load set I use, StaBall, H4350, Varget, etc. They all run very well. Mine loves the 107 SMK and the 109 LRHT. At 1k I shot several 7" groups with the 109. I hate the MDT Thumb screws though. So irritating.

Interesting that a key reason for the GT is possible mag feeding issues…. Well over 10k rounds of Dasher fired with Primal Rights kit in an AICS and zero feeding issues. Running a Dasher at 2810 can get 2500+ shots out a barrel

You should try the 109eldm bullet. It’s the poor man’s A-Tips. Ran on the same dies as the A-Tips but with a plastic tip and not handled with white gloves. I run a 6GT and have been loving the 109eldm. I load them with H4350 at 35.4gr which gives me about 2820fps. The GT can get up over 3000fps but you sacrifice recoil when you get that hot.

105 Berger Hybrids have been a must for my 6GT, full wind i opt for the 115, not as much MV as the 105's. FYI, if you dont mind slight more charge weight, 6.5 staball also produces significantly high MVs over Varget. Im getting 3050 with Staball and 105 VLDs 26" barrel.

Berger 109's with 32.5gr of varget 50 thou off the lands gave me 2850fps at the muzzle, 3-8 SD. Perfect for PRS. I may try 4350 to get the case fill up and better velocity variation

So keen for this. Im in the process of finding/hoarding parts for my next build, will definitely be a 6gt. Mpa/mdt chassis, triggertech/timney, built on a bergara or howa barrelled action and probably put my strike eagle on it and then put a gen 3 razor on my vudoo...... or a 7-35 atacr 🤦‍♂️🤣

I run a 6mm creed, and have tested exactly same bullet choices your looking at with one exception; your missing the Lapua 105gr Scenar L. I tried really hard to beat it with Berger et al, and couldn't. Suggest putting it in the mix, plus it's easier to find and cheaper (in Europe!!)

Gavin, I would love to see you test the new Reloder TS 15.5 powder in the GT. I am shooting a 29" Krieger 1:8 with Barnes 112gr match burners. The TS 15.5 gives me about 50-100 fps more velocity in my dashers and my GT. I just switched to the 112 Barnes and am having great success with them. When the 112's are combined with the TS 15.5, I am getting 3090 fps velocity, just short of having any pressure issues. This velocity and bullet weight place the ballistics very close to my .284 Win.

@@halfdollar86 absolutely! Especially considering this family of cartridges was designed for long ranger target shooting accuracy. The 7 currently has some way better BC’s. You’d think Hornady would have looked at their current bullet selections and figured out that the G1 and G7 numbers are better for the 7mm. I sort of understand why they did the 6.5 and 300 though. The 6.5 craze is one reason. And the US is a 30 cal country. So what they did sort of makes sense. But I’m sure their designers and engineers were pushing for the 7. The 7mm PRC could be one of the most effective and efficient cartridges on the market today. I’m excited for it.

RL-16 35.6 gr Berger 109 Fed 205m primers Hornady brass 40thou jump 2925 fps=.3" groups. Amazingly accurate. Also likes the SMK 107's same load 2931fps with a little lower bc. Both great out to 1200yds.

I can’t speak to 6 cal cartridges, but I would be curious to see what if any powders for .223/AI would work wel with the GR family. I know Varget is one, maybe CFE 223 or IMR 8208 XBR perhaps?? Thanks again Gavin! -Isaac

I started shooting one last year before the SAMMI accreditation. George had a lot of info out there and it was a breeze to load for. I absolutely love it and have had great results regardless of the powder or bullet choice.
