In regard to the undertone of this video, "Failure is the mother of success". I appreciate the vigilance from all angles. It is unfortunate and ironic when some of our greatest qualities, like our civic duty, turn us against one another. The way we conduct ourselves and converse with one another determines whether we are calming the waves of inter-generational trauma or amplifying it to ripple through the ages. If you want to start doing more handheld camera movements, the GH7 is great. You mentioned documentary work a while back. I can't think of a more affordable and useful camera for doc work. The AF and all other auto modes really do free up the mind. The color science is very different. I find I'm adding more magenta in certain ranges or using the Portrait color profile which I had found to be excessively pink in previous Lumix cameras. And I still highly recommend the Leica 12-35mm f2.8.

Yes, I'm about to get a couple of anamorphic lenses for my GH5, because when I use it with my S5, I can match anamorphic and that's a cool thing. I'm definitely looking at that 12-35 as well, which would probably live on my GH5 90% of the time. As far as the GH7, I may be doing a pretty big project this summer, my first real doc, and I am seriously considering the GH7 for that project, so stay tuned... we'll see. I'm pretty happy, actually I'm completely happy with what I have, color science included, and I"m so used to it at this point, but the doc might actually require autofocus because there's some difficult stuff to shoot that's really going to be unpredictable, and that means some "spray and pray" with a great autofocus camera might really be a huge advantage. We'll see. And yes to difficult, challenging times tearing people apart and you are SO CORRECT in mentioning generational trauma. It comes up in the most stressful and difficult of times, and so... we are in one of those times right now... hoping for the best. ;)

Amen, - Friends & family comes first, and we have to respect that both friends and family might not share our values, - they are still friends and family. To throw a curveball (or to disrupt as you would say) I would give the advice to dig a bit into hyperfocal movies. - It's the *complete opposite* of what you usually do with shallow DOF, but there is still a lot to learn from other directors pov. - It gives you something interesting and thought provoking to think about, and also see new ideas. (there is no 10 commands that forbids mixing shallow and hyperfocal shots 😀) - There is a excellent jump-start nugget here on youtube called "How Roger Deakins shot Blade Runner 2049" on the channel Angus Davies. - Its supposed to be Roger Deakins masterpiece, so def worth a watch. Have a good weekend, and keep creating 🎥🎥🎥👍.

Yeah man... in both of my feature films, I hardly used a shallow depth of field at all. It's for certain moments, but overall, I'm all about including the life around the story to add to what's happening, as opposed to creating a bubble or vacuum where nothing else matters. Where you can't even see anything else. That's not real life. And here's to friends and family. The people in our lives are everything. That's the reason we get up each morning and put up with all the bullshit around us. The people who we care about and who care about us. Indisputable. ;)

Think of a B camera to match your S5. Black friday is coming, so time to think of what you need and at what price you would be ready to pull the trigger. Like the S5ii for 1200$, or GH7 for N? I am guilty of buying without thinking enough about "do I need it", or "if I get X, then I must get/upgrade Y,Z...". I like the Cine lenses you can get for MFT, and at great prices. Maybe time for a lidar setup that you can hook to your Minolta? So many option. Thanks and relax.

@@steveschnetzler5471 i’m not looking for another camera, I actually have a GH5 which works really well with my S5, but I AM considering getting a couple of anamorphic lenses for the GH5 so I can shoot anamorphic on both of my cameras at the same time. That is appealing to me. :-) and black Friday is a scary place for people like us. Lol thanks so much for contributing as always, I appreciate you. Have a beautiful day.

Have you read any Burroughs, Rock? This video reminds me a bit of the "cut-up" method. Unrelated passages on the surface coming together and revealing something new. Had to stop reading him because of his views, which was sad because he was also unique. Anyway, you have a way of creating connections in the audience by firing all parts of their brain at once, which I enjoy. Congrats on the watch hours! Peace!
@RockWILKАй бұрын
Thanks so much, and I'm not familiar with Burroughs and/or his views. Can you guide me? As far as the "cut up" method. I"m all about expansive thinking, and also all about creating work that is not banging people over the head with stuff. I would rather do it like jazz... take it out, consider that moment, but continue to resolve back to the root because that's what our nature wants. I feel like as artists, we have the opportunity to really deal with difficult things in a much more palatable way than anyone else, more than teachers, politicians, activists, etc, etc... we turn the hard stuff into beautiful things, and that brings people together. Or at least that's my intention, and I just continue to work at creating my work in this way, hoping to continue to get better and better at all of it. But it never ends..... Ad so we just continue.... that's all we can do. Thanks again for all the good energy, means a lot to me.

@@RockWILK Agree. Also, William Burroughs was an author most known for writing Naked Lunch. He was around with the Beat Poets and hung with Kerouac and Ginsberg. He also made or collaborated on short films, sometimes wrote with the cut up method where he shredded his text and glued it together out of order to see what new thing emerged. This was not always random, but a jumping off point for his mind to recombine his thoughts. I felt your purposeful editing was an echo of that in a way, though of course I don't know. Nonetheless it can be great, as I think your video was. In later years he teamed with musicians, lent his voice to projects like Tom Waits' The Black Rider and other artists works. He appeared in the movie Drugstore Cowboy (He had been a longtime Junkie in his early days) and was in the end was thought to hold some bigoted views that are hard to dismiss.

@@DaddyDaughterMovieNight Oh wow. My friend Baba Israel wrote a play about his father, Steven Ben Israel who Burroughs probably ran around with. I have to look for some of Burrough's work, sounds interesting. A question we often have to deal with is are we willing to look past the "issues" with the great artists that often appear, and can we separate the art from the person? I know I do in some cases... Miles Davis often put his hands on Cicely Tyson, things like that. I struggle with it all the time. I have another good friend, Taharqa Aleem, musician, producer and close friend and colleague of Hendrix and powerful activist who once said to me, "sometimes we have to allow for the errors of the era" in people. That sticks with me. I know for myself, racism is a deal-breaker in my life, but I also know that it WAS so much more acceptable in the past than it is today. Not good in any way in any case, but we ARE often a product of our environment... Most people are. People ar sheep. Just look around right now. ;) But I digress...Anyway... When it comes to any injustice, I'm pretty intolerant, I must say. lol. I'm gonna check Burrough's out, and thanks so much for the guidance in his direction.

@@RockWILK Cool. "The errors of the era." I'll keep that in my head. Reminds me of the "what the hell is water?" conversation the two fish have in some famous story I can't remember who wrote. Anyway, have a great Sunday!

Camera's I think are a lot more about ecosystems, unfortunate. Which then leads to being stuck with that proprietary systems. I am leaning towards Blackmagic design, a robust system.
@RockWILKАй бұрын
@@timelesstruths I agree with you, and I think one advantage of going with a blackmagic camera is that you can grab a speedbooster and increase your ability to use lenses outside of your ecosystem. You can get native lenses, you can get full frame lenses, vintage lenses and adapt them, I think you just have more flexibility that way. But I agree with you, when you get a camera, you have to consider the ecosystem of that creative tool because that’s where you’re gonna be living and creating from. Thanks so much for coming through and for commenting, I greatly appreciate that.

I appreciate this, thank you. And yes... who cares about lenses anyway? Camera talk and lens talk are good distractions from difficult things every so often, but at the end of the day, real life rules. From day to day, in our personal lives, in our art, all of it. The rest is just something to do along the way. Thanks so much for the kind words and for taking the time to come thru and contribute. I don't take that for granted.
