I definitely think you can be a KZbinr and a filmmaker. When I'm focusing on a film or short I am developing, I upload fewer videos to my KZbin channel. When I make a few videos for my channel in between my film projects, I am adding content to my KZbin channel. But, I don't think they are mutually exclusive from each other. I think you are proof of that. You've made excellent films and your KZbin content is second to none. I've seen "I Think I'm Sick" as well. I too thought it was an excellent film. I've followed his channel for a long time. He really has mastered the visual imagery of filmmaking. All of the videos and short work he has made have been visually stunning. As a visual person myself, I am drawn to powerful imagery. And Danny Gevirtz has a great eye for beautiful images. Thank you for your commentary. You always bring great value and inspiration to the filmmaking community with your content and movies.

Yeah man.. I agree. You can be both. You can be whatever you want to be and/or call yourself. That's the beauty of being an artist. Nobody gets to tell you what you are, and everyone has their own process. Thanks for the kind words, we're all out here just doing the best we can, and hopefully being as original as possible along the way. Appreciate you, I hope that 20-60 is serving you well along with the new camera, and looking forward to seeing what you do... Onward we go!!

Oh, cool. I bought his (Danny Gevirtz) luts a while back to support him a little, and followed his film journey for a bit. Somehow thought I'd hear about it so I could watch it, but we need to remember, I guess, that we need to go out and look for these fllms. They don't always find us. Thanks for the link, now I will watch it. Love the message here about "that's what art is for" and dealing with the difficult parts of life. Wish I could speak off the cuff in the way you do, Rock, but my mind just wanders. Your stage experience serves you well!

I think you'll love his film. Really beautiful and sobering, all at the same time. Especially for a father... you will feel this story. At least I believe that. ;) There's definitely a father/daughter through-line going on for the entire film. And yes, that is what art is for, and I always create from that exact foundation. Thanks for the kind words, I feel working in the theater has been my greatest gift and serves me as an artist every day, in so many different ways. Theater is life to me. ;)

My wife can do many things at a time, but I really need to concentrate on one at a time. When I do, I don't need as much food or sleep, just interruption free time. In that state, I can see a project from all sides, and assemble/create it in the best order, most efficiently. Otherwise, I have to rely on writing plans, diagrams, storyboards, which I have to for bigger projects, if I can break it up into a few day chunks, and concetrate, miracles happen. Thanks.

Women are the best of us, for sure. They should be running the world. Having said that, having the opportunity to really consider our work is everything. To be able to breathe and have a process that we choose is a gift. But when a schedule calls, being organized is the saviour. Thanks for the contribution. Keep making that magic!!

This was a great video Wilk! I think you could make another one that talks about the KZbin vs filmmaking topic I think we lost you to the “I think I’m sick” movie topic lol, that means it’s really good, you sounded really passionate about it, on another note I saw Justin’s video and even commented, I was really disappointed that he’s choosing to throw dirt on other creators assuming those creators are not genuine when they speak about certain gear and lenses, that could apply to any of us but how can we know for sure? There was no need to name drop Cammakey in his video other than he’s bitter, the topic of KZbinrs aren’t real filmmakers comes from a place of envy specially when Justin is criticizing someone while doing the very things he complains about, times have changed and KZbin is a platform that’s bigger than Netflix so we gotta think of it as such and everyone one of us who edit, work on sound, work on lighting, script, act, direct and film are not filmmakers we are all of them together, is he freaking serious? 🤦🏽♂️ again great video and I haven’t had the time to watch your film, it’s holiday season so I’m busier than ever until the year is over 🤣 the other day to finally post my video I had to edit until 4am, to then hear Justin tell us we’re not filmmakers… hell no we’re not, again we do almost every single job there’s in the film industry.

Yeah, Yo... I really wanted this to be a video about Gevirtz's film without using him in the title just to get views, I really do love his movie, but you're right, I'll go back and re visit the filmmaker vs KZbinr thing, because that's some bullsh*t that Justin Phillip was spewing. I love Justin Phillips channel, but that video sounded like some bitterness to me as well, and if you really pay attention, it was kind of a great monologue, because he went from one energy to another because by the end of the video, he was kind of apologizing for calling those other artist's out and giving them all kinds of praise, and actually he became self-deprecating by saying they were all better than him. ;) I think he just had a moment, he's a really gifted KZbinr/filmmaker for sure, but I felt just like you. Why you gotta call these people out and put their names in your mouth? I'm glad Patrick Tomasso checked him in the perfect way. ;) anyway, be safe out there and don't work too hard, I look forward to more and more of your work, and have a beautiful holiday!!! Onward we go!!
@CabralCreatesАй бұрын
@ I get your point and it makes perfect sense but if you read the comments from people who he was talking to (real filmmakers) everytime they called people like Cammackey “B roll boys” or “fake filmmakers” he embraced it and played alone so what he did at the end of the video is just an act if you’re not addressing it to the viewers who are keeping the negative energy, If I disagree with you or if I think you’re not being genuine when you talk about your camera gear I wouldn’t make a video about you because I can’t know for sure, also if I want to talk about filmmakers vs KZbinrs I wouldn’t question Cam or Patrick first in the video to at the end give them their flowers that’s a snake move, i think highly of you so I wouldn’t question your integrity in public, I would probably ask you on instagram if you really like the lenses, we can’t claim that others aren’t being honest if we don’t know them while we do the same things our opinions aren’t any more valid or genuine than others. Anyway happy holidays Wilk and I hope you have a great time! Love the video and I look forward to the other video if you do make it since you kinda I’ve done both the conventional filmmaking and the KZbin filmmaking.

@@CabralCreates Yes... I see what you're saying. First of all, Tomasso and Mackey are BRILLIANT artists, both, so I'm not sure why he called them out specifically, there are plenty of people on this platform who you can pick on, but not them. They know what they are doing and what they are talking about, so that was kinda dumb, but who knows what's going on in that dude's head? We all have bad days and he seems to have quite a few. He's mad, but for me, I always think, "I don't know what that person's been through", and so.... I just wish him the best and at the end of the day, who cares?? lol. I'm sure Patrick Tomasso and Cam Mackey will be fine. ;) And yes, I'm gonna go ahead and make that video, thanks for pushing me back there to finish what I just left out there hanging..... Have a great holiday season, stay safe out there!!

So I'm not a KZbinr or a filmmaker, but I think a fruitful discussion can be had about the differences between those two modes of audiovisual creation without drawing a hard line in the sand claiming that a person can't be both simultaneously. I wonder how you feel about the term "videographer" and where that fits in. I tend to think of people who shoot weddings, for instance, as videographers - capturing key moments from an event that already has its own narrative structure...but then afterward (depending on the product offered by the artist / purchased by the client), all the elements of the video editing process paired with the artist's creative vision + choices can transform the footage into a beautiful film, thus justifying the title of "filmmaker." Which further begs the question, in our quest to define things: what is a film? what qualifies as a film? Do we have a rectangle-square situation - all films are videos but not all videos are films? Are there (unfair) assumptions about effort or value with each category? Most KZbinrs are not making films. KZbin probably isn't most people's first stop to watch films either. AND films/filmmakers have a rightful place here. There's plenty of beauty + excellence to be found in the overlap. On a different note, I'm so glad you got to enjoy the holiday with such a deep / powerful / moving experience. Nearly all of my favorite films are ones that make me cry! The heart's gotta feel it. Thank you for sharing from yours. 💜

I feel like the moment you upload a video to KZbin or anywhere else, you are officially a filmmaker. Of some kind, but you are a filmmaker. A videographer. All of it. None of us should judge, although I guess the only thing I kinda/sorta judge is when I feel there is no intention behind a video of any kind. Or a "film" of any kind. I feel we have an obligation to anyone who is kind enough to stop their life for a moment and come visit our work. Our video. Our movie. Our KZbin video. Our tutorial. Our vlog. Etc, etc... I feel we need to respect even if it's only one person who finds our work, we need to give it all to them. At least that's how I approach my work all the time, no matter what or where it is. From KZbin, to social media to Broadway or a proper film and everything in between, (if there IS an "in between" between all a that) lol... I just feel like it is a real responsibility to do our best, and that's just a good place to begin always; At least to me. And YES to art that rips your chest open and has you bleed out. That's the only art I'm interested in. ;)

@@RockWILK That kind of conscientiousness should definitely be at play for anyone working in this space as an artist, educator, healer, business owner, etc. - don't just add more noise and waste people's time; intend/insist on enriching our lives in some way, even if inevitably what you offer won't be everyone's cup of tea. On the flip side though, particularly on social media, a lot of people post without any such sense of service or utility, but to merely say "look at me" / "like me"...OR perhaps as their own proof of existence, in a world where it's easy to be or feel unseen unheard unloved insignificant. I guess the common denominator is that all of these "films" show us something, some expression, some bit of life, human or otherwise, and feed that part of us that's always hungry for life. Maybe films, in their vast array of flavors, help keep loneliness and other deadly demons away... // In this or an alternate universe, Noelle makes a film called "Apples, Art, Love & Other Drugs" 😄
@RockWILKАй бұрын
@@NoelleV I can understand the feeling of being "unseen" for sure, but still... I try and see some kind of delineation between an artist and someone who simply is taking advantage of the opportunity to be on social media, KZbin, etc, etc. The chance to hit "record" and "upload" and now you're seen. I can also see how that can lead to creative work, but then where is the line between artist and everyone else? Perhaps social media and KZbin have shown us that we are all artists, playing our roles, acting, writing our stories, sharing them and looking to be seen. Searching for an audience. Vying for attention. Maybe there's no difference between any of it, and perhaps the only thing is how each individual feels while they are awake, and how that compares to when you are asleep. It's all a valid conversation, but for me, personally, the difference lies in intention and a commitment to doing something and sticking with it, developing it, finishing it, and then doing it again and again and again... and making it new every time, conjuring up some kind of magic out of the sky, or the ground, or from a place that nobody knows anything about... that's it for me.... but then again... that's like waking up each day. We all have to decide for ourselves what all of this is..... Maybe it's nothing. Maybe it's everything. Who knows? And what to do about all and any of it?
@NoelleVАй бұрын
@@RockWILK Blurred lines everywhere. I agree with you though - not everyone who posts / presents / performs in this digital public square is an artist. We're all living creatures expressing ourselves in a myriad of ways every moment of every day, but we are not all artists. More is required to earn that title. And the audience should expect more from any person who claims it. But then I think about things like the duct tape banana that sold for millions and the invisible sculpture that sold for $18k (both coincidentally by Italian artists) and hardly anything makes sense anymore. 😆
