What a thorough video, as always. I love your idea of having your kiddos highlight sentences from the IEW passage of the week. I think I will start doing that as well. I think it will help my son when working on his KWO. Isn't it a great feeling when they express that they like what they are doing, especially when you are the one that created it! What an awesome win for you Mom.

We’re using Lifapac Bible 5th grade this year too and loving it.

My oldest is struggling a bit with it. It’s different from anything we have done before. It’s hard for him to find the answers. I think he has issues with tracking with his eyes… so this is good for him, but a challenge. He likes picking out his new pac at the end of an old one though. My younger son seems to have no problem with it.

Thanks for the great video as always!! Your videos are always a refresher to me after watching so many videos of other high schoolers writing research papers every week 😅 My son is making his way through explode the code as well. Seems to really be helping. I add in word sorts as well. I’m going to give Spelling U See and Beowulf grammar a try. You’ve talked me in to it 😂 The rhythm of handwriting by logic of English really helped my dysgraphic son. They sell it in pdf so I just reprint when he needs more practice. I also ended up buying their font by the creator to create my own worksheets. We’re really struggling with science. I chose journey homeschool and it’s not working out well. It’s def a college prep program. A lot of math too which isn’t his strongest subject. So for now we’re just watching the videos and do everything together. Like the homework questions, quizzes, labs, and readings. We might switch to a guest hollow science after the new year. It wasn’t cheap so I’m trying to stick it out.

Thank you for so many great suggestions! I need to write some of those things down. Weekly paper writing sounds pretty horrid to me! LOL

@@CalmintheChaosHomeschool you’re welcome!! Hope they help. I did see a Beyond the code for ETC. Might be worth looking into. Thanks for all of your great suggestions on your videos!

I also have a 6th and 7th grader, one girl and one boy. I am using Sonlight HBL F with them together. They use CLE for their independent subjects (reading, language arts, and math). I have decided to split them up for science. We finished our science from last year two weeks ago and will be using Berean Builders Science in the Beginning for my 6th grader and Science in the Atomic Age with my 7th grader starting in December.

Oh! That sounds like a new adventure... starting two different science programs for your kids. You'll have to let me know how that goes for you! How are you liking Sonlight F? I think some people love it and some don't. We really, really liked it.

This is my second time using it. My two oldest went through it in 2019. I love it, it’s one of my favorite Sonlight levels. They have learned so much about China, North and South Korea, and Japan. We will start learning about Russia after Thanksgiving. They are loving it so much they have asked me to stay with Sonlight for G next year. I like the student pages so much I’m making some for G and H to go along with Story of the World. I will be balancing 3 sciences! My 1st and 3rd graders are using Sonlight Science K. Thankfully those lessons are short. My two middles need more of a challenge in science, but are very different in their strengths. My 6th grader was not ready for science in the atomic age. I chose science in the beginning to see if I want to use it next year with my 2nd and 4th graders. I’m not a fan of sonlight science except for level K. I also think Berean Builders will better prepare them for high school than Sonlight did for my oldest 2.

@Grace_Filled_Homeschool I hope your science adventures go well! Doing 3 sciences will be a change for sure. I think Burean Builders is a great science choice, and definitely a bit more challenging than Sonlight science. I don’t know if you saw my Science in the Atomic Age flip through. It looks very thorough. I don’t know if my 6th and 7th will be ready for that even next year 😅

@ I did watch it and I watched two other accounts who reviewed it, one who used it last year and one using it this year. I plan to do the lessons with my 7th grader and go as slow as he needs. Thankfully Science in the Beginning and Sonlight K science are both shorter lessons.

We adopted teenagers during the summer so our schedules look different as I need them to do certain things we did before they came into our family!!! Our books look like ur books often!!! I don’t care as long as the work is being done!!! At the moment my kids are reading holiday books and I put them out in our living room for them to pick!!! I’d rather my kids do phonics at a older age if needed!!! We are loving spelling u see!!! I don’t care on the speed but I want my kids to spell better!!! I have a teenager who is having issues with grammar so I’m going to look into the guest hollow grammar!!! I don’t like his grammar after going to public school for 6 months!!! We are planning on doing astronomy in a different school year!!!

I think that Beowulf Grammar would be great for an older student who doesn't yet have the basics of grammar down. As long as they don't feel like it is too "baby-ish" for them. So how many kids do you have at your home now? I hope that the merging of kids is going well for your family. We never adopted teens, but we did adopt all four of our kids at various times, and it take a while to become a cohesive family and for things to settle in. Hopefully, that is happening for you!

I have a 14 (almost 15) year old son who is dyslexic and I still have him work on phonics. If he doesn’t use it he loses it. We’re doing explode the code and he hasn’t complained it being too babyish. I also did one month membership for reading simplified and uploaded all of their student packets. They have word sorts that help a lot. Like sorting the different spellings for /er/ such as bird and curb. It helps with the different spellings for the same sounds. Their switch it helps a lot too but I make my son write it instead of the tiles. He’s dysgraphic so I only make him do 10 or so at a time. If they Beowulf grammar is too babyish for them look into MCT grammar. I’m going to give Beowulf grammar a try with my son. He said it doesn’t look babyish. He said he’ll do it long as It’s not “hard” or has lots of writing.

@ I think he will like Beowulf grammar if he likes to look of it. Definitely not Tom much wrong at all! My 9th grader is also using it as review and no complaints from her either. She really likes it :)
