I'm an Islanders fan and I give Michkov all the props. He's a teenager from a foreign country where English is definitely not the language. Hopefully learning English won't be too difficult for him. America is the land of opportunity and he wanted to come before his KHL contract expired to live out every hockey fans dream of playing in the best hockey league in the world. I didn't know that he lost his father last year. The Islanders signed a highly sought after free agent out of Russia in May. 25 year old Maxim Tsyplakov. I had no idea who he was at the time the signing was announced but apparently there were about a dozen teams that wanted him, including the Rangers. The Islanders have three Russians on the team. Goalies Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov as well as defenseman Alexander Romanov. That was probably a driving factor in Tsyplakov signing with the Islanders. Also the fact they have UBS Arena. I'm excited to see what Michkov and Tsyplakov can do in the NHL. Tsyplakov scored 31 goals last year in the KHL which is not easy to do.

Glad to see Matvei here and glad he is ready to put in the work. Also sounds like he's going to be a good teammate and someone that everyone should enjoy having around once his English improves. It's also good to see he has a good month or so before training camp so that he can work on his English. I used Rosetta Stone to learn a couple of languages over time, and the key for me was to have someone to speak with in the language to help keep it in my brain. You can learn, but a week later forget if you aren't using it. So if he can get a good teacher, he's got a LOT of people around to practice with :) Really looking forward to seeing him on the ice. I hope his time learning culture, language, US hockey, etc. isn't too hard on him.
