7.3 idi running 180/360 deg out

Didn't know u could get the pump 180 mine has a key that stick through the gear and the injector pump the only thing I could see getting out would be where the timing marks are on the housing and the pump with if they are lined up it's In time but hey learn something new everyday

MacRobb, you crack me up. I love those idi's!!!! Does the torque of that 7.3 ever want to lift up one side off the jackstands?

No, that was quite stable. On the other hand, we had a 6.9 a friend of mine started that was just on top of a tire, barely strapped to a pallet. It fired up much quicker than expected, took off and literally overbalanced and fell halfway over(knocking off the FSS wire, fortunately). So yes, good support is a good idea. Also, a 7.3 /does/ have enough torque to lift itself off a motor mount in the truck! I forgot to install bolts, once. I was wondering why the gearshift kept moving every time I accelerated....

odd din't know these would run 180 out wonder what the signs of it is mine seems to run very rough yet all compression and such is good with new injectors / injection pump

Easiest thing to do is what I did - pull the IP front cover and look at it. Then, pull the #1 glow plug. Crank engine over with a breaker bar while feeling for air coming out of the GP hole. You should feel air coming out and stopping just before TDC. Leave the crank at the 0 mark. Now, check the position of the dowel pin at the IP gear cover. If it's not at the 4-o-clock position... you might be off. That being said, unless someone had been messing with the IP gear cover or removed it along with the IP, it shouldn't be a problem. What sort of 'running rough' do you get - lots of smoke? white smoke? black smoke?
