great to know, thanks. I may do this with my obs. One minor thing, what you called cavitation (9:38) is just called vaporization. Cavitation is when you have a turbulent low pressure area (say the downstream side of a partially closed valve) that causes vacuum bubble to form and collapse rapidly, which will cause damage to the surfaces around it. It can also be caused by high vibration areas, such as the cavitation problem on the 7.3 IDI. What you described is just fuel short cycling and being heated to its vaporization point.

I did the hutch and harpoon mod 7yrs ago. I did compression fitting on return. I took a tubing bender and bent away from float + i added 18". Love that mod. Again great video Clint.. btw I I twin screw on filters. Actually PO had it on but was disconnected.

Morning from South Texas I really appreciate your vids they are really helpful,i bought a “01” f250 7.3 last year this would be my fourth one,it has 203,000 on it 4wd 4dr recently it started running rough and lopin,in watchin another source on utube i gound that the icp was bad but i am going to drop the tank and clean the filters this truck has a added fuel cell under a tool box which flows into the original fill tube and the truck was ranch truck till i bought it so im fixing things as i go. I have been wanting to swap the stock rear tank with the 38-gallon tank and put sumps on both tanks of my '97 F350 crew cab. I already have an Irate E-fuel system installed with the stock setup but would like to change up to larger fuel lines. The problem is the fuel tank selector valve and its fuel line size. Do you have a suggestion on how to keep both tanks and upsize to the 1/2" fuel lines? Thanks for all the info.

Just found your channel and binge watching. My 1996 7.3 E350 has a mechanical lift pump in the engine valley. The van has 310k on it. I have had it 5 years and 100k and wonder how often the pump needs to be replaced. Thanks for the great content.

@@CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD my 97 7.3 has 270,000 on it and the mechanical pump has failed 3 times and eliminated (efuel) once. I have 2 Bosch 044s on a relay so I have a backup, and a primary and secondary spin on filter. Both tanks have been sumped. The rear tank is now the 38 gallon tank.

either a modern tank selector or a parallel tube balancing both like dual semi tanks or a pump and switch pump from far tank to closest tank any option here will work

Also... is there a trick or an easy way to get the back turbo/exhaust clamp back on?? in 2003 we did a ton of upgrades to my 2000 7.3 and that clamp was a Sun on the Beach to get back on! and now I've got a pedestal oil leak so she's down till I pull the turbo and pedestal... which ain't any fun! Advice??

I got a Banks Clamp easy to get on a real bear to get off though, I find using a bottle jack to hold the pipe up in place from under the truck makes life real bearable with this difficult clamp, Follow the never leak vid I made and if done right you will never have to do this again

I know this was a few months ago... but I used a paint marker, drew a line from the dowel-up over the top of the ypipe, and a line from the dowel hole up over the top of the turbo. Put the clamp on the pipe,, snug on the bottom,, slip turbo into the clamp,, line up the 2 lines, clamp her down. I struggled and entire day, just could not get it. Quit for the night and just thought about it... happened to pick up a paint pen for something else when the light bulb went off.

Shucks. I was hoping that this vid would recommend a location to install my sump. The “best” place I can see without dropping my tank (I do not have a lift) is the spot in the middle with the round indention, but I am leery of drilling my 3” hole there because that indention must be for a reason and I do not want to drill a 3” hole right beneath the OEM pickup assembly, which would mean I would need to buy a new tank and install the sump somewhere else.

I always install under the pick tube area and if you want to go the next step divert the incoming tube straw 12 inches to the front of tank and if you want to go even further cut the fill tube 6 inches from the top of tank

Here was my thought in 2004, I know... I had a thought don't cha know :) I dropped my tank and removed the 2 screens to help increase fuel flow, added a filter on the frame and for giggles we put a 128 Gal tank in the bed, before the Govment out lawed big tanks over 92 gal... So the big tank keeps the factory tank full, no sucking air or foam :) But now I like the Sump idea better.... just need to burn off 160 gallons of $1.99 fuel I bought over a year ago :)

But it hurts the wallet to filler her up! Plus from the first fill-up I've always user Power Service fuel additive... even in my semi's back when I was OTR driving! My 87' KW had twin 250 gal tanks :)

So does this eliminate the sending unit? and if so, how does the dash guage read the fuel level? My rig is running out of fuel at a quarter tank and I'm wondering if this will solve the problem. thanks

Might also want to think about with the cost of fuel these days, not to play devil's advocate, but you are making it much easier for fuel theft with a bottom sump !

They all do the same thing, Low or high priced best bet buy one that has 3 bolt fastener single lead out and keep the return line right where it is also get a new feed hose with the quick connectors
