Have you ever wanted to compare 5.45x39 to 7.62x39? Most folks haven't even ever heard of 5.45, let alone shot it. It is a fascinating caliber with a lot of potential. Think of it as a smaller brother to the 7.62x39 and much closer to 5.56 NATO.
In this ammo crisis 5.45 ammo was easy to find so we decided to take our Galil Ace 5.45 (one of only 545 in existence) and put it up against a tastefully modified 7.62 version. What this comes down to is we were just curious. We wanted to see what the differences were and if the modifications to the 7.62 version made that much of a difference. Short answer: yes, but no.
One thing to keep in mind in this video: Gear only SUPPLEMENTS skill. Don't deck out guns expecting that the modifications will make you a master of the fundamentals. That isn't the point of this video at all. We simply thought it would be an interesting comparison, let us know what you think about it below in the comments.
Also swing over to our website (www.tatargets.com) and use code KZbin15 at checkout to save 15% off our targets. Then get out, get to training and become a better protector of life.

I love the galil platform...it’s well made and just works. I have most of the variations and am digging the cerakote job on your 7.62 looks great. I was lucky enough to scoop up the 5.45 in both rifle and pistol. Thanks for the video I enjoyed it...wish I had a range like that to have access to lol.

We are VERY blessed to have our range. We quite literally couldn't have continued to grow the business without it. Also, glad to hear you snagged a 5.45. Its an awesome gun! I wish I would have jumped on a rifle version.

So jelly. I could only afford one and I went for the carbine. The AKS-74U has notoriously poor combat effectiveness, but it looks like a heckuva truck gun.

For the ammo efficiency with such a short barrel, the heavier 7.62 is prob more powerful. ≥10.5" is more like the optimum length for short 5.45/5.56.

Are you using 7n6 in the 5.45 gun? Wolf is importing several flavors of Barnaul in that caliber, though they are harder to find these days. Non-magnetic and magnetic 60gr FMJ, and 65gr magnetic FMJ that the Russian competitive shooters like. I just got 200 rounds of Hornady reloadable 5.45x39, but haven't shot any yet.

Unfortunately no. I don't think I want to do that on the 5.45 since it's "collectible" but we'll see. I may buy a 5.56 version to do the same thing as the 7.62 but also do the plastic delete while I'm in there.

For an 8.3 inch barrel, you can't do much better than the 7.62x39. If you were to get a rifle it's a tossup between 5.56 and 5.45, I would lean towards 5.56 as I like to try to standardize around a few calibers and 5.45 and 5.56 are just too similar for me to stock up on both.

Why so quick to put the safety back on? Safety can wait. Right? Until everything is done. Follow through was solid though. I see too many guys shooting fast then coming off target immediately. Like it’s a race to get back into a holster. Solid work though man. Keep it up.
@TATargets
@TATargets 3 жыл бұрын
It’s a good habit to flick safety back on with a rifle anytime eyes come off target (scanning) or muzzle drops below eye line, or positions are changing. That .1 second can mean a lot especially in less than ideal positions or switching positions, or shooting near or around others. It’s something everyone needs to master.

Yeah I intended to make a mag fitment vid but I have both the rifle and pistol 5.45 version. My pistol fumbles like yours and just spits the mag out on insertion but it accepts pretty much all my surplus mags but the rifle I have will not lock on hardly any of my surplus magazines. IWI didn’t care about my issue if the squishy all plastic magpul 74 locks in. They didn’t even care to look at it. “We can’t guarantee fitment with surplus magazines”..... I get it if it were a few here and there but no bakes, Romy steel, polish steel, rpk mags, most plums didn’t, nor EG bakes fit. Some used and abused circle 10 did or any that appeared heavily broken in. They said I could mod the mags to make them fit but if I mod the gun I void the warranty. Lol.... I am to mod a mag collection worth more than these two guns combined to make them fit which already fits perfectly in my SGL31s, SLR104s and IZ240s.... makes me want to sell them off (the galils that is). They said they cut the mag well to “AK74 spec” but it sure is funny how my AK74s all take AK74 mags with a single hiccup, I’ve never seen one not rock and lock it being 74 on 74. I feel like a dumbass kinda for buying a 74 variant heavier than a SLR104 that won’t fit my mags and I know you said you aren’t really an AK guy but stamped guns to me just feel so much lighter. I still might make the fitment video but I hit a point where I was pissed then kinda got over it. It’s my fault I expected a $1900 rifle to accept the mags of its parent platform right outta the box. Outta 200 plus mags I got two magpul mags that lock right it and some beat to hell circle 10s I’m good 🥴

Be aware of how the 5.45 Galil came to be. Special order from the Sales and Service manager of IWI-US. From what I have heard yours is one of the few that doesn't take surplus magazines. Mine sure does. The Magpul magazine it came with will never come out of its wrapper.

@@dbmail545 I mull the idea everyday.... I have 1 rifle and 2 pistols of the variant. To pistols was really an accident try to secure one and I wasn’t going to pay a 10% restocking fee. The rifle is the one giving me trouble and my pistols are fine. I’m not going to mod mags and maybe I’ll swap the the ARM mag release and trigger guard and maybe it will work right and have a more classic look
