This reminds me of fighting with my sons math teacher. My son asked me for help with a problem he was struggling with. He showed me the method the teacher had taught. I couldn’t understand it either. I showed my son how I would do it. He was able to understand it in 5 minutes. I got a flame phone call from the teacher. He gave my son zero on his test even though he got all of the answers correct. He admonished me saying he had a bachelor’s level math courses. At the end of year interview I quietly mentioned that I had passed PhD level courses in Math.

@cdnmetelhead: Just wondering what this teacher said or what his expression looked like, when he heard of your PhD level of math training? As BA or BS math classes vs PhD level, would be like comparing apples to oranges, imho. Still, a great way to end his year + knock him down a few ego rungs of his math knowledge ladder🪜 😂😂😂

Teachers are the most important part of learning math. One bad teacher set me back. And that occurred early. Very early. From that point on , I thought I couldn’t do math. That I was just too stupid. And every math class gave me severe anxiety.. I couldn’t learn. Then.. I had one good teacher that helped people with anxiety, and explained everything calmly and clearly. Now I realize that I can do math. It’s not panic attack inducing anymore. But it all started for me around 3rd grade when I had a teacher that wasn’t popular.. and made you feel stupid. It affected my math scores for the rest of my school career. Until I took some math courses at a community college to get up to speed. And I found out.. the teacher plays a huge part in whatever you are learning. Please keep teaching.

Surprisingly, I'm enjoying your KZbin tidbits. I hated math in school, and of course, I didn't do too well in it. Now, at 77, I have no need to learn any math, but I find I want to - now that I don't have to pass any tests, etc. I certainly have no need to take your courses -- but how fun it would be to get a daily email from you with a KZbin style problem and maybe 4 or so practice problems - as a kind of yearly subscription, starting with basic math and moving up the chain. You could allow people to start at any level or return to any level for a yearly subscription. Just a thought.

I have to admit this is slightly beyond my knowledge of maths. Not watched the video yet, but my inclination is to sort out the parentheses in the internal bracket first. Then simply what is in the outer bracket and divide the first parenthesis with the second. Not able to do it mentally as I would normally, but I shall now check the solution.

@@nickclopton7986Nick, you're correct but so is RangerCaptain. They stated that you "work from left to right when you have several of the same level of operations". In other words, they're saying that you would work through any multiplication and/or division left to right first, before moving onto the next level of order of operations, that being addition and/or subtraction, again working left to right.
