Frndly tv has Curiousty included on its service. That’s one big reason I have it. The on demand is even ad free for that one channel. My husband likes the history channel stuff. I’m old so the channels with the old tv shows are fun also.

It's worth mentioning that PBS Passport is available (at least via our PBS station) for a $60 donation which works out to $5/month, a great deal even before one reckons that some people would donate anyway.

May 23: Comcast announced Now TV, a new $20 per month cable-ish streaming service for Xfinity internet customers that includes access to more than 40 live channels, over 20 FAST services, and a subscription to Peacock Premium. It will be launching in the “coming weeks,” according to a press release.

I want to cut the cord but I watch and record local evening news. I’m not sure where to stream that or is it antenna??
@FrugalRules

An antenna can do that for you. But, what station is it you want for local news? It's possible a streaming service *might* solve that for you.

I think the Paramount plus, Peacock, and Hulu, without ads is the best deal. Especially when you take advantage of their specials. You guys mentioned that it cost around $17 for the three of them. I pay $10 for the three of them, taking advantage of Black Friday and other deals that they offer during the year. Plus, I have no need for a separate DVR to record the four major networks.
@FrugalRules
@FrugalRules Жыл бұрын
It really is, especially if you want access to network shows and some sports. We do the BF deals as well to keep costs down.

Hi John how bad will the ads be on Max as HBO Max doesn't seem bad but if I remember correctly the ads on Discovery+ are hefty hopefully they are light on ads for the new Max
@FrugalRules
@FrugalRules Жыл бұрын
That will be interesting to see. We've always found the ads on HBO Max to be fairly light and not too intrusive. We've not used D+ recently enough to compare the two, but do remember that from our last testing of it.

Same. I tried to follow links for it last year, I couldn’t find any that worked. I tried the link in the description of this video, doesn’t work. If it exists, Amazon’s keeping it well hidden.

Prime Day (Black Friday-type sale) will come to Prime members in June. The new season of The Boys will likely come then too. Summer is a good time to cycle in to it, then out when you run out of stuff to watch. Prime Video doesn’t have a lot of originals, but the have a good selection of Hollywood movies. Netflix is basically the opposite.

Nicole, as for horror movies and shows, I agree with you 100 percent. I never watch anything bloody or scary, and not sure why anyone else would. As for your recommendations, they are all good ones. But for some reason I always have a bad taste in my mouth for middle plans, where I say middle, I am referring to a paid plan with reduced advertising. I understand why, and I understand the appeal. But in my view, they should get paid either by paid advertising, or by paid subscribers. It appears they are doing this to get money form both ends of the spectrum. In my opinion, what they should do is to raise the prices for the paid sponsorships, and pass the free savings onto us. Just my opinion.
@FrugalRules
@FrugalRules Жыл бұрын
We get your point. Working in the marketing field, we can see it on both sides. Few people would be willing to pay the total cost of what it takes to create content without advertising supplementing it. But, yes, these massive conglomerates want to make money on both ends to maximize their revenue.
@jeremyf9124
@jeremyf9124 Жыл бұрын
The middle plans are great because there are so many streaming services. The free services have so many ads I can’t watch them very long, but the full price plans now cost so much I’d have to switch services often to compensate.

Great video! We are able to pay less (no Live TV service) outside of football season which is so nice. We also get the Disney bundle free with our unlimited Verizon plan but I heard that is about to go away for new subscribers. I just hope they keep it for current subs. We also signed up through them for Paramount+ Premium for 1 year and received a free year of Netflix Premium. These deals are a huge cost saver for us. We already have Amazon Prime service and got the $20/yr Peacock deal on Black Friday last year. That leaves us only paying for MAX (HBO) until Sept now which is super nice. Bottom line: keep an eye on deals and keep watching Frugal Rules for more great tips!

Being able to drop down once football season is over is a terrific way to reduce costs! And, it sounds like you have a pretty good bundle you've created for yourselves. 🙂 Yep, we're hoping they'll grandfather people over, but we've not read anything on that yet. We'll be discussing it some on our live stream this Friday. 🙂

Great video and likely great options for most people. What annoys me now, though, is that we have these amazing 4K HDR-capable TVs and in order to stay within streaming budgets you have to give up 4K HDR content. The basic ad-supported versions of most of these services are HD only, and often times not great HD. So here we are with these hi-tech TVs but the content isn’t even good enough to show them off. I guess these budget bundles need to be paired with a 4K player and library of discs to make the TVs worthwhile.
@FrugalRules
@FrugalRules Жыл бұрын
That's a fair point. Even the live services don't often have a lot of 4K, especially outside of sports.
