Hi John why do people make streaming and cutting the cord so complicated? If people just decide hey I'm going to pick 1 or 2 streaming services and just stick to it . Or rotate it during the year everything will be fine. People go crazy oh I have to get this service for this show and another service for another show. The reality is almost all streaming services have more content that you will love and could ever run out of if you take the time to scroll and actually invest in the app. Plus many apps have a similar show to what you want. Prime example is say your a Game of Thrones fan. But you don't want to purchase max. Your a true blue Netflix viewer you can watch The Last Kingdom, The Witcher or Vikings to get your fix. It goes on just like that for any program to any streaming services. So you can literally stick to 1 or 2 services and get exactly what you want. You'll just have to adjust to a different similar show problem solved and the stress of bouncing streaming service to streaming service is also solved

Hi like your program. Have a question on antenna. I am planning on cutting the cord.and new to cord cutting. What antenna do you use for your local channel. I check the transmission towers map and my towers are 15 to 25 mile from me. Not shear on with way to go on a antenna. There are hardly any antenna in the store any more. Look around the area do not see antenna be put up outside considering how many people have cut the cord. Considering that two of my cable companies have drop cable tv. Any suggestions on an antenna would be helpful.

Great question! We've used the Mohu Leaf line for roughly a decade and really love them and we're ~10-15 miles from towers. That's the line we'd recommend. If you run into more specific issues, we'd recommend Tyler the Antenna Man channel. He's the go-to expert for all things antennas, especially for more advanced/obscure situations.

As a fellow K-State Alum, I approve that T-shirt... 😄. As for the ESPN App, I am surprised its not wrapped up in the Disney Bundle and just replace ESPN Plus. It would seem like it would draw more into that bundle service.

It will be interesting to see how they finally roll it out. We think Disney wants to have one location/platform, so time will tell. EMAW!

So just wanted to put this out there for anyone setting up a AirTv 2 or Anywhere. I don’t know how long it’s been an issue but it’s very underreported. If you’re using any kind of Apple product to set this up, it’s not going to work! You will get as far as the channel scan on the airtv set up and then it will just lock up once you start the channel scan. From the little I’ve been able to find using an Amazon or android device will work for the setup and allow it to continue but using an Apple device will not work. I know from personal experience. I do not have access to any of the listed devices that are claimed to work so I cannot say if they do and I’ve only read on Reddit post claiming they had success with the Amazon/android device getting it set up correctly. Very disappointing that Sling will not fix this obviously software issue!!!

Happy 2025 John and Nicole. I really love you guys the video on over-the-air antennas was awesome I may go with a mojo leaf but there are other options out there. The main reason I'm writing this is I wanted to ask you guys if you think that streaming services are going to be consolidated within the next couple of years. Here's why I'm asking that question I googled it and there are over 200 streaming services available now do you think they're going to consolidate them I mean that's a lot of streaming services and not all of them are going to get all the money. Could you answer this with your opinion or maybe do a video on it. I really like your reviews of sling and friendly I may do friendly TV in the future their prices not unreasonable and I'm not a big sports fan so it could work I'm sure you guys are already aware but KZbin just jump their prices up to 83 per month now. We're not there yet but we're getting to the point where some streaming services are not as cost-effective as cable is. If you're only going to save 3540 bucks a month you're better off staying with cable. Again happy 2025 Happy New Year I love you guys keep up the great work
@FrugalRulesКүн бұрын
Happy New Year to you as well! That's a great question and one we've discussed a number of times. We do believe there'll be some sort of consolidation beginning in the future. Not every company will be able/want to continue with streaming for a variety of reasons. We think it'll be the bigger players - Netflix, Google, Amazon, and maybe another one or two that'll continue to stick around.

@@FrugalRules I think you're on the money I hope sling and friendly stick around but we'll have to see what shakes out and have a great one guys

In 2025 I have decided to cancel all of these expensive streaming services. KZbin TV's recent price hike was the last straw for me and so I canceled it, along with Peacock TV; Paramount+; Max; Netflix and Prime Video. I still subscribe to AppleTV+ and KZbin Premium. I haven't decided yet on what I am going to do with ESPN+. It's hockey season so I will probably keep it. Other than that I watch PlutoTV; Fawsome; TubiTV and Freevee.

I think people underestimate the negative effect AND wasted time ads have on them. You can literally spend a year of your life watching ads if you don't get ad-free!
@robertallen88414 күн бұрын
I’ve managed to get cost to $62/month if you consider that cheap. I also dropped KZbin. Sling Blue at $52 gets locals of ABC, NBC and FOX plus a boatload of other free channels. PARAMOUNT + gives CBS and some great shows. Add Tubi, Pluto and Plex for free. I stream it on Apple tv and use HomePods for the stereo. Works great.
@robertallen88414 күн бұрын
Forgot to say Paramount was $110/year. It’s where the $62/month comes from.

@@robertallen8841 To have live TV and only paying $62, that's not too bad in our opinion. It beats $80+ for live TV plus other services, that's for sure.

Hey happy to see you two posting again, Happy New Year 🥳, to you and your families!! I have a antenna and use a Roku Ultra , which give me plenty of content , with Roku channel, Tubi, Pluto Tv, and have subscription to Amazon video, with my Antenna I can watch my local Football team (Detroit Lions 🦁 ) and other primetime games, but live sports otherwise is a mess, being spread over multiple streaming services. But always thank you 🙏 for your videos, they truly do help…

What perfect timing that your video popped up in my feed. As a KZbin tv subscriber I’ve had it with the constant price increases over the past couple of years. I’ve come to the realization that I really don’t spend too much time watching it except for the occasional ball game and even that has become a bit boring to me as I’ve gotten older. Cable news forget it. I’m sick of all of them. I get my news from certain channels on KZbin including local news clips. In the very near future I’m going to re-hook my outdoor antenna and get a Tablo box. Thank you for the excellent advice. You’ve got a new subscriber.

That's the way to do it, especially if you don't ind yourself watching much live TV. There are so many other options out there that are considerably less, if not free.

Unfortunately, I only tend to watch news and sports. I was using You Tube TV, but they kept raising the price. Now, I just use my antenna to watch the network and local news and the occasional sporting event on the networks. Oh, for the old days...

Yep, streaming live TV has definitely changed over the past several years. KZbin TV is a good service, but the regular price hikes with little to no added value is too much.

What’s one challenge you’re facing when trying to save money on streaming?
@pmjeterjr6 күн бұрын
Have not had a live stream service since 2020 will not go back too much money lol! I use steaming services, I split cost where I can with a family member. I binge most of that I want then drop service when needed or want. I use HD Homerun for over the air. it connects great with my plex to watch outside the home and DVR if I need, it also integrates well with Plex's FAST serves. I have a Tablo but do not like it so well due to not being able to easily watch it outside the home if wanted unless I use a VPN to look Like I am still at home. I am not a sports fan so that does not even figure into my budget lol so that saves me quite a bit of money lol. If you are in a Military service check for service member or family of service members discounts. Verizon offers that type of discount, and if you are one their newest service tier you also get discounts off of the streaming services they offer on the plan a $10.00 bundle becomes $8.88. Paramount Plus also offers a Military Discount for their service. I do not think the other services offer that at this time but keep checking you never know. Once again John and Nicole thanks for your channel! You give great advice!

I dropped cable TV at first, but when the streaming platforms became more like cable, I dropped those too. It actually was never about price. It was the flood of advertising, the lack of a-la-carte, and the sharp decline in the quality of the content. History went from educational to straight up dumb. Discovery and nat geo turned into lame reality TV or fiction. Food channel was full of useless competitions and not cooking content. I probably would have had cable or an equivalent service longer if I could stop paying for individual channels I didn't like, but I didn't feel like I was in control and was getting ripped off.

USA Telcos are Monopolies: While the exact figure is proprietary and varies based on several factors, Verizon's cost to deliver data to each user is likely around $0.50 to $1.50 per month, Verizon net income for the twelve months ending September 30, 2024 was $9.796B, a 53.12% decline year-over-year. Verizon owns Visible. Major flaw -- just when you ned Tablo most (WAN broadband down) you can't use it. You need the LAN up of course, but when WAN is down, Tablo is unusable. This is not the case with older Legacy Tablo which works great when WAN is down. Huge flaw in my mind that Gen 4 Tablo is unusable when you need it most (WAN streamin isdown).

Yes, I will be giving Netflix a shot after cancelling my subscription over eight years ago. But I'm adding this subscription in the spirit of frugality which is the theme of your uploads. I've been a NBA League Pass subscriber since it started streaming. The package was a lot more expensive in those days. After all these years I have decided to cancel my monthly subscription because I'm just not interested in watching any more NBA games than are available via national networks. Since I will no longer be paying a little over a 100 a year for League Pass, I can use that money for Netflix at 7 dollars a month. I'm not just doing it for the NFL as I know there is a lot in their library that interests me. But frankly I doubt if I would have subscribed again if not for the incentive of the NFL games.
