nickelbacks you remind me i one of the only ones i can listen to but its due to nostalgia of what was overplayed in high school. growing in the philippines, all we had was the radio and mtv. in which most of the music was pop, so i was exposed to a lot of pop, rock, alternative music at the time. then in college, my music tastes widened up as i was in chicago, and my exposure to music is sky rocketed to a different dimension. looking back, yeah, who cares what people think of what you like. music is music regardless of what you think. i have a pretty wide range of taste and i like it. its the same with art to me. i like all types of art, so its the same with music. for it either the lyrics, or usually the vocals since i used to sing in a band. singing a lot of different music and songs really helped in shaping my vocal chords. even if it was a female vocal. that way i can reach deeper tones to higher pitches.

A bad song I like listening to unironically is "Bitch Came Back" by Theory of a Deadman. Judging by the writing, it's like a less-awful version of Puddle of Mudd's "She Hates Me", even if it still comes across as a guy getting salty over his ex and not getting over it. But I just can't help but listen to it because of how damn catchy it is, and I loved how it reminded me of "Bad Girlfriend", which is their best-known song and a song I really liked. Even with the juvenile lyrics, I still like listening to this song. As opposed to the other songs on my "Worst Songs" list...

Man, I laughed so hard when you got to "Camouflage". I was very predictably anti-boy band in the early 2000s, and that went double for Christian boy bands because I was really irritated with how well they got away with the whole "God is your super nice boyfriend" type stuff. So I made an offhand remark slamming Plus One when my wife and I were first dating in 2002, only to discover that she actually liked the band and I had inadvertently insulted her by insulting the intelligence of anyone who would actually like them. Uh, whoops. Just to prove I had an open mind, I listened to their second album "Obvious" and it still wasn't my thing, but I had to admit it was an improvement, and there were a few songs that I actually unironically liked. They put out a final album in 2003 called "Exodus" after two members left and they dropped the boy band shtick entirely, and tried to become an actual band. The results were mixed, but the song "Poor Man" was a legitimately good rock song. You wouldn't even know it was the same band if you listened to that and something like "Camouflage" back to back while blindfolded.

Nope. I had to suffer through a few Backstreet Boys CDs during those first few months, and she probably suffered through some of the annoying rap/rock bands I was into at the time, but both of our tastes evolved over the years. We've seen bands like Switchfoot and Jars of Clay together more times than I can count. (And she tags along to some of the weird indie rock shows I attend from time to time.) It's nice to have a significant other whose taste overlap with yours. You know how it is.

Have you heard the remix of Bass Down Low that focuses on full verses from the Cataracs? I've always preferred that version even though it is also trash :P

For You I Will (Confidence) is not a awful song what so ever. I also thought he was really underrated too back in the day. That song even motivated me to ask out my crush lol

Well I was surprised you had even heard some of these songs and didn't just blow them off. However, in answer to Nickledback. I gave them a chance and they sounded so bland to me. I don't just hate on them because it's easy, I do it because I just believe that there isn't anything good they have to offer.
@beyondartv7 жыл бұрын
+Koopa The Quick that's totally fine I feel the same way about so many bands, but I'll at least listen to them before saying that. Good on you for not blindly hating
@trevorkeith38137 жыл бұрын
Thanks man I appreciate it. I'll do that for anything tho. People will ask me what I think of something and I'll tell them that I can't give a fair judgment since I haven't heard/seen it.

Came to this video from your review of "The Dream Walker" by Angels & Airwaves, where you basically tore it and Tom Delonge apart and it just blew my mind how you can admit publicly that you like this trash and then so strongly dislike a (in my humble opinion) really really good album. To each their own and I respect your opinion... Still, love your videos man!

Oh damn, Plus One is a band I haven't thought about in years. I couldn't remember their songs at all, so I just Googled the band name and was reminded of Written On My Heart, found the music video and was surprised to still know every lyric. I even remember the music video because it was on one of those WOW music video DVDs. Sorry for rambling, you took me on a trip to my childhood.

Jon, do you think you could do a "__ Years Later" review on blink-182's untitled album? You mentioned in your "blink-182 albums ranked from worst to best" video that it's close to beating out TOYPAJ as your favorite, and it's also my all time favorite blink album. I'd love to see your thoughts on some hidden gems like Easy Target, Violence, Obvious, and Stockholm Syndrome.
