Shane, please add Strategy, International Management and Organizational Behavior to the list. These are subsidiaries of Management majors and geared towards jobs in consulting. Like Finance, these majors pair only well with top schools, or, more precisely, at least schools under the recrutiment radars of top consulting firms, such as McKinsey, Bain and Boston Consulting Group. These majors train people to work in consulting and high finance jobs, such as investment and acquisitions. Do not mix up with the general majors.

Got an Information Systems Management degree from San Diego State University in 1975. 26 year career as a programmer, programmer/analyst, senior programmer analyst and account manager. Well worth the effort. Only thing is.this career field is constantly changing so you have to be learning new technology all the time to stay current. For instance I started in a mainframe environment and later in my career had to orient myself to client/server environment. Not easy!

I'm glad I switched from HR to Marketing as my focus. It felt good to find something that I might actually enjoy, since that's what I value more than the paycheck at the end of the day. But I have to agree with how colleges struggle to stay up-to-date with digital marketing due to its rapid changes. So, I've started browsing for extra classes online that can help me in that field while I earn my degree, that way I get the best of both worlds! I'll definitely check out the link you left in the bottom. Thank you for your informative videos, they've certainly helped myself and many others narrow down what they want out of their education and future career fields!

From an International Commerce POV, so take it with a grain of salt, you will be focusing on negotiations, laws that applies to products and services for and from customs, culture, geography, supply chain, finance, accounting and languages. If you want to go for Real Estate then go for something that focuses on Microeconomics, Analysis, Market values or other similar things, depending on how you plan to focus on it. STEM majors are very sought-after in business-especially in finance, consulting, and operations. That’s because of a few main reasons: 1. These business functions require people who can understand complex systems and make recommendations. If you can understand chemical equations, coding a website, or how to build a bridge, you will almost always have the mental aptitude to understand systems within business. Many of the world’s top CEOs and leaders were engineering majors. 2. You would actually know how to build a product. I worked with someone in operations for a top fast food chain who studied computer science. He single-handedly engineered an essential piece of tech they’ll need for a new store operational design. 3. Businesses value neurodiversity. As a business student, not much stands out about my way of thinking from other business students. There are music majors who make it to the most lucrative jobs in finance. You will have to understand the basics of the role, but they’ll value you for thinking differently.

this is from the perspective of construction, but in project management, if you are applying in a field where you are a knowledge matter expert, sometimes you are favored over generalist matter experts for example I do construction management, but a civil or electrical engineer is often preferred for my own job because of their license or ability to license for doing CAD. license + EXP < degree + EXP < science degree + license -EXP -business knowledge typically when this happens you are paired with a subject matter expert who will fill your deficiency.

It depends on the course list for the degree, rather than the name. But most colleges use those names interchangeably.

If the IS degree has courses that cover SQL, BI tools (Tableau, Power Bi, or others), object oriented programming languages with libraries made for data analytics/data science (R and Python), and your typical business curriculum (survey of finance, accounting, management, and economics)..then I’d say it’s pretty comparable.

MIS (Management Information Systems) CIS (Computer Information Systems) AIS (Accounting Information Systems) IS (Information Systems) Are more or less if not THE SAME. Theyre all alike. All of them has IS on them afterall lol. IS is combination of Technology and Business. Information and Computer are Technology. Accounting and Management are Business.

Is it better to get an MIS degree or get a double major in Business administration and Data science? MIS doesn't have as much math, statistics or course about AI as a Data science degree. Could someone help me set the criteria upon which I'd make my choice?

@@zuzuel4974 With the looks of two options, it seems like you're interested in a Biz-Tech hybrid career direction for the future. Based on this, with a Business Admin and Data Science double major, you will not only learn MIS, but also Ops, Finance/Accounting, Math, Stats, HR, so you will have a much broader spectrum of knowledge which is perfect for roles like becoming a Product Manager, and it will give you the opportunities to pivot and change careers as needed, if you wish to change your mind more in either direction, more Business or more Data Science. MIS is great too, but you only learn about Information Systems so its not quite as broad, but still a respectable, and good option if you're interested in roles like Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Data Analyst or Cyber Security, etc or for becoming a management consultant (which you can do with either option). Additionally, have two majors always just looks better than one, if you can pull it off. It'll definitely be more challenging though, so its good to consider if you're dedicated/focused enough to succeed in it. And a technical science degree (data sci or engineer) seems to get you a higher salary than a business degree, but a business degree is more flexible in terms of the number of jobs you can get into with it. My college offers a BBA with an MIS concentration, so it might be a good option to see if you can do a dual-major/dual-degree, while also be able to concentrate in MIS, or you can always do an MIS certificate on top or something, but yeah. Another thing to consider might be the length of your degree and what's worth it to you, I know some people who graduated their undergrad in like 7-8 years, so yeah. Let me know if you have any follow up questions xD Good luck!

@@oliviacalton8477 first of all, you have my biggest gratitude. I really appreciate your message. My business faculty at university (which doesn't allow us to double major or get two minors) offers either a BBA major with a concentrated minor (currently in my 1st year) or MIS major with a BBA minor. That said if I'd like to also study DS, it will take 4-5 years of undergrad to graduate with both (2.5 for business and 3 for DS) which despite not feeling great as finishing undergrad in 3 years is not much a problem for me. However the issue is the fact that I'll be studying them in different universities which is, unfortunately my only option (DD one with a fixed schedule + non mandatory presence + all the issues of the university itself (quality of education is one of the best in my country but the surrounding environment sucks really hard) & BBA in an American system + mandatory presence) which along with my other engagements in my life make me undecided whether I start my DS degree next year or the year after.

@@oliviacalton8477 hey, not to oppose you or anything just a quick heads up. At my university, in the MIS major, we learn about information systems, as well as multiple coding classes, three maths classes (though not high level, or as high as engineering math classes or pure STEM ones), HR, PR, and all core business classes (including accounting and auditing, finance, marketing, management). On top of coding classes, we also take OS, database, networking, mobile platform courses, alongside other CS courses that would make the list a little too long. I am going to the public university of my country, although it does rank high in the region, and top of the country, it doesn't rank that high in the global ranking of universities in the world. To sum it up, MIS students definitely do not take only information systems courses, yet I agree with the OP double majoring for his interest. Sorry for the long reply, best regards !!!

It’s better to do a BBA in Finance or Accounting, or just do Finance or Accounting rather than majoring in banking and insurance. You’ll be better off with specializing in the “sciences of business” rather than banking and insurance. Transferring will depend on the university you want to go to, and I would suggest you talk to the university of your choosing in regards to it

Why is there such a huge difference in a average salary between finance and accounting?
@samuelbonilla1341
@samuelbonilla1341 Жыл бұрын
You have to keep in mind it’s average and not median. So finance numbers get skewed by large salaries. Accounting has more stability and you can make good money. Finance on the other hand is risker; However if you land a good enough job with bonuses and comps you can make hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars once you get far enough into a career.

What does a demand score and a meaning score mean?
@arslan9665
@arslan9665 Жыл бұрын
Demand score is how much demand there is for a job. If I recall correctly, the way it’s made is from calculating the total number of graduates, and comparing that to the total number of jobs per year (Ex. 45,000 graduates in a degree with 74,000 jobs opening up results in a demand score of 164% (74,000/45,000)) Meaning score is how meaningful people find their job, and the percentage is how many people in that workplace finds the job to be meaningful
