Dr Berry forgot to mention that DHA is concentrated most in the human body in the eye, brain, and heart. He also eluded to fish oil capsules not being as effective as we once thought they were. That’s because during the manufacturing process, the majority of DHA and EPA are molecularly changed to what’s referred to as the SN1 or SN3 position, which the body has a harder time absorbing and utilizing. It needs the DHA to be in the SN2 position. Eating seafood allows us to absorb DHA/EPA in the SN2 position. Can’t get SN2 omega 3s from plants either as they are inherently in the SN1 & SN3 positions. This is important because that DHA being in the SN2 position affords efficient operation of neurological function, especially when transmitting light information to the SCN in the hypothalamus (master clock of the body that signals the body for release of hormones as part of the circadian rhythm). If the SCN is off, chronic illness/disease tends to follow

But you can scoop it out with cabbage leaves or things like that. It’s very flavorful and rich my dad used to pour them into a pie plate put it in the refrigerator and let it cool and thick it up and then when he wanted some. Good article, still in last years have been consuming a lot of fish oil supplements and helped me a lot to elevate from 1 to 1.4 my HDL and halve my TG levels. Sure that could be also thanks to keto I started approx at same time, but when stopped taking supplements HDL went down to some degree and TG up. MCT oils added to that effect on HDL I usually had it around 1.6. Tested few years, keeping diary, doing monthly lab exams, ... have no doubt about. So I would not say supplements does not work (if one can't eat high quality fish for any reason). Still monitoring, but since I went carnivore it looks like my sensitivity to fish went down. Before I had histamine reactions after eating few times in a row fish, ... now for last month (and 2+ months on carnivore) I can eat fish daily (mainly wild salmon) and even 2 times per day. Monitoring mercury levels, so far very low. Still for now consuming also omega 3 supplements because I have stocked them. Later will see.

I've been semi-carnivore (I eat meat with berries, herbs and spices from seeds like cumin) for a while coming from keto. I love red meat, sometimes white meat, eggs, small ocean fish like mackerel, sardines, herring, and sprats (their heads are my favorite part) on a regular basis. Mussels, salmon and cod liver perhaps twice a month. I'm in Europe and it was said that cod liver caught in the North Atlantic is somewhat safe but shouldn't be consumed too often. Cod liver from the Baltic Sea is contaminated with heavy metals and Germany has prohibited its sale and distribution. I'm not a big fan of cod liver and my partner isn't a big fan of sardines with their bones and skin and sprats with their heads, so I make fish pate of sardines, sprats and cod liver. If anyone finds these fish disgusting for their looks, this is a great way to overcome the repulsion and make them yummy. And trust me, they ARE yummy! They are just not very pretty. 🤪

@@KenDBerryMD I would caution anyone who buys their sardines packed in olive oil. I put such a can in the refrigerator for 5-6 days. When I opened the can the oil remained quite fluid (without any signs of rigidity), which was an indication the olive oil was laced with a cheap Omega 6 oil! I regularly buy my EVOO imported from Greece from Trader Joe's made exclusively from kalamata olives, which is an excellent oil. When I found another EVOO imported from Greece from kalamata olives from another store sold at a cheaper price, I bought it, but I found the oil to taste differently. Since I still had both bottles, I placed them both in the refrigerator for several days. The true EVOO from Trader Joe's would not pour out of the bottle, but the fake EVOO flowed freely from the bottle! Buyer Beware!

Yay I had wild caught salmon for dinner tonight. I ordered cold liver on Amazon im nervous of the taste but I'll try and hopefully won't be too strong. I've been eating chicken liver pate and I've noticed my energy is way higher after eating. Love seeing how these nutritious foods effect me.

My main concern is cezium 134 radiation from Fukishima polluting at a rate of 300 mega tons every day for 10 yrs now but you set me at ease cause i do know the currents go south and not north so thank you for easing my concerns

I've been eating sardines for many years and recently have added Mackerel. I read that Atlantic mackerel is best. Other types of mackerel are larger fish which have more mercury.

Do you just eat them from can or have other ideas for the willing to try? Thanks in advance.
@manny78864 жыл бұрын
@@VeldaE12 - If eating straight from the tin can is too much of your liking, you can cook it if you like. I sautee my onions and garlic, add a few cut-up tomatoes. Once all sauteed, add 1/4 cup of water, when the water starts boiling, add the sardines. Once the sardines got warm, optionally you can add veggies like spinach. After the veggies cooked, turn off the heat and enjoy your sardines.

VeldaE12 Try in a salad with keto bbq dressing or keto Caesar dressing. Even a Cobb salad without bacon or chicken sub mackerel.

My favorite DHA Masterpiece is pork brains with duck eggs. I see why maybe you don't mention brains but it's my understanding they have a lot of DHA more so than a lot of these other sources you listed

I like to mix a can of sardines or cod livers into tuna fish with a soy/canola free mayonnaise to make tuna salad. You can’t even taste a difference! Add a little dill relish and some onion if you like! Delicious

very good information that your putting out!!! I was hoping you guys can fit in your schedule to do a video on baby food baby snacks and baby formula on the ingredients and what is good and not good and what would also be cool to see and know is how you guys did everything with Your babe on the nutrition and when you started implementing things. my wife is expecting our second child and I want to do a better eating habit since I’ve been following you guys. But I definitely want to be more educated on the baby products formula, food snacks and even shampoos. My wife is due in May and I would really like to know before hand so I can start with good habits. This would be very much appreciated. keep on keeping on, you’re doing great 👍

Great video! As a vegan it is hard to get the EPA/DHA that I need. You did a good job of telling why EPA/DHA is so important. Don’t like fish but looks like I have no choice if I want enough EPA/DHA in my diet. Recently found out there isn’t much of either supplement in whole milk.
@ellensirca99152 жыл бұрын
All DHA and EPA originate from algae, that’s the reason that fish contain it, so it isn’t necessary to receive these acids from them. If you want to avoid fish, I’d recommend doing more research into algae supplements to reach your recommended doses
@volstar82 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the advice! I am taking 900 mg of vegan DHA now. From my research EPA is not as important for brain health so I am sticking with just DHA. Fish oil has a bad aftertaste so I will be happy with my algal oil which goes down easily!

Just noticed our local "Aldi" tonight has tinned anchovies in extra virgin olive oil so bought 2 tins to test out.... Live in the Highlands of Scotland and very limited shops locally- very little chance of finding anything that fits the pasture raised/grass fed/wild caught labels and just have to buy the best I can.... I have a half acre garden I think it's time to get some ducks and chickens!!

Type in grass fed and/or pasture raised meat in the search bar of your computer. You can order it online.

@@byteangelxi9178 Thanks for that- one avenue I'd not considered was online as I generally like to see what I buy food-wise, there's a supplier over in Aberdeenshire (Donald Russell)- will have a good look at the website this weekend, brief glance before work and they do cuts for slow cooking which could be an option to keep costs down (organ meats? ? ). Got a couple of local places which may fit the bill- one a fishmonger, one a "farm/estate shop".... going to have a look at both tomorrow!

You don't want to over cook organ meat. Well liver at least. I've never had anything in the organ meats except that and I can tell you from experience it's horrible if over cooked.

I ate two cans of mackerel (in water) yesterday. I already knew mackerel is one of those fish very high in essential fats, so I eat it quite often; but often many days pass before I eat it again and that's because I don't exactly love to eat mackerel, or sardines for that matter. A wild-caught salmon not out of a can is a favorite of mine, though, but usually I can't afford it. Salmon out a can or frozen is not that tasty. Anchovies are often brined heavily. Anyway, I'll try to eat one can of fatty fish for a few weeks and see if that's working out, instead of maybe twice a week. Herring is also all right with me. I'm Dutch, so I eat those the Dutch way. Thank you for quality information.
