I always wondered why my scalp would itch after I applied oil to it. I grew up believing that you needed to oil your scalp and the itching meant that it was growing. Thank you for the clarity I will stop that immediately 🙂

My biggest myth is believing that my hair could thrive without oils and butters. Big mistake! Also, not using hair grease and water to moisturize my hair. I should have stuck with what my mom did. Protective styles do work if they are not left in too long and if the hair is properly moisturized in between.

Actually grease does not clog pores . A group of scientist and chemist debunk that. Back in the 60s ,70s, 80s, even the 90s. People greased their hair and scalp and they had thick full beautiful hair. You just have yo know how to use it. The problem come when you pack to much grease on your scalp. Bug if you use a thin layer of grease on your hair and scalp it is joy going to hurt.

Wished you explained the importance of taking down of styles for length retention because that's truly the key. Also I've seen growth with grease & oils on the scalp, guess we all have different experiences AND thanks for this video very informative for new comers

Absolutely nothing wrong with trimming our hair. I was just explaining that it doesn’t make it grow any faster.

yeah i also thought protective styles grew my hair Ha! our hair grows protected or not. its the lenght retention that matters. once again, thanks Julie

You are so right about all those myths about natural hair and growth. Natural hair grows faster then permed hair. I look at natural hair like a plant. If you water it on a daily basis and add some moisturizer and oil to seal it. It will grow like crazy you have to be patient and show your hair much love and it will love you back with long beautiful locks.

I had the same thoughts about the hair trimming situation. I was like how is your hair ever gonna look longer if you keep cutting off the progress. I think yes is necessary to get trims but not as often as is suggested.

Sooo shook about oiling scalp, omg been doing this for ages!! Can you do a vid on how to protect shirts and tops from oils as hair oils sometime ruin shirt collars
@HealthyAfroHair3 жыл бұрын
Yes it’s interesting! I just use an old towel to cover my shoulders or you can use a hair dressing cape/gown to cover yourself.

Thank you for sharing. Its the protective styles grow hair. Personally I am not too worried about the length of mine but I just want it healthy. I would trim and trim the ends. You give some very useful tips on this. I need that I was close to going back to relaxers but that has damaged my hair. That method never worked for me. I am glad you raised this. Very helpful. Some of us do protective to make life easy but it dosnt really do much. But moisturising and deep condition definitely works for sure.New subscriber here tryna listen to what my hair needs not just try every single method lol useful tips on this channel thank you

Uh no it's not. In some cases it is because in a lot of cases it's due to care and hard work.

@@eddiy335 l believe it is - mostly genes - l am 5 th generation descendent of white - and l have done so many things to it - and it has broken and grown back it is bra strap length currently and l have friends who take care of thier hair and it will not grow past a certain length- genetics plays a part definitely!!! Thanks for this video! There were alot of these myths that I believed as well. I was wondering if I don't grease/oil my scalp for like a protective style or for itchiness, what should I do for it? Are the anti-itch sprays a good idea or should I try to transition to avoiding this habit?

Do you think relaxing your hai helps prevent damage? Because whenever I relax my hair it gives me a sort of burning tingling, and I used to think that was just my hair loosening up at the roots or something. But is relaxing uour hair really necessary?

Love this ❤️.My hair shrinks after a wash day? Also, I have this whitish appearance on my hair after moisturising it, kindly help😇
@HealthyAfroHair3 жыл бұрын
Good to hear 🤗 Does the whiteness dissolve eventually? It could just be that the product hasn’t fully absorbed into your hair or that you’re using too much.

Myth 7 I don't agree because for people with dandruff has to have some type of oil on their scalp like, "Jamaica hair oil"

I had heat damage on my ends and with time I reversed it with fermented rice water,,,,,,,, also I believe triming keeps hair healthy,,,, it's a practice that should not be stopped
@Flora-dn4bw3 жыл бұрын
I don't understand how trimming keeps the hair healthy. The healthy hair grows from the roots , not tips. You have to maintaine that healthy hair with a good hair care routine💆, not trimming it off. My opinion...
@HereDiianas3 жыл бұрын
@@Flora-dn4bw The thing is that hair is dead so it gets damage over time no mater what. You can only minimise rhe damage. The ends are the oldest part so they are the most damaged. More or less damaged depending on how well you take care of your hair . It's like nails. Your nails look better when they have been filed. If you want to grow long good looking nails you file them regulary otherwise they will break and you'll have to start over. Trimming a little avoid ending up with a big cut.
@Flora-dn4bw3 жыл бұрын
@@HereDiianas ok, I agree with trimming the ends once in a while, when you really feel the ends are damaged , but not trimming so often... 🙂

So is oiling our scalp everyday bad?
@HealthyAfroHair3 жыл бұрын
Everyday isn’t really necessary, as it can cause lots of build up on the scalp. But a few times a week is ok.
