I asked my doctor does anyone ever come of blood pressure meds and her answer to me was no. She's no longer my doctor and I no longer take blood pressure meds.

@@seamusconlan9673 I’m always curious… “why not?” I mean, if I was on pain medication for years, then got it improved from some natural method (chiropractic, exercise, diet, stretching, weight loss, etc) can’t I reduce my pain medication?

Thanks for this perspective; great comments. Regarding you last myth... when I first got on my blood pressure journey, I pretty much gave up all salt plus I did radically change my diet by eliminating all ultra processed foods. It's basically the Mediterranean diet that I utilize. If I buy canned beans or tomatoes, I get "no salt added". I exercise religiously 6 days a week and combine cardio, resistance, isometrics, and HIIT. I sweat during exercise and I am a salty sweater. I started getting some muscle cramping, especially at night. Then at my last checkup, blood tests revealed that I was low in my blood sodium level. (hyponatremia). I was advised to add some salt back into my diet. I find that simply using a pinch of celtic sea salt a day to season food, the hyonatremia resolved. Muscle cramping is totally gone. So great advice!

I had great blood pressure until I had a hysterectomy at 39. Six months before the hysterectomy, my doctor told me I had the bloodwork of a 10 year old and congratulated me on having such a healthy body. My blood pressure started creeping up within 2 years after the hysterectomy, especially when I would get upset. My hormones went down and the blood pressure went up. I think the hysterectomy was a major factor.

Myth # 8 Doctors love to put you on BP medications. My doctor took me off after my life style changes reduced my BP. They are concerned about very low BP. Most doctors allow you to reduce your BP on your own, but once they see you are living with high BP, they are obligated to recommend medication.

Myth #6………….”let me know what you think” I think it’s maybe not 100% driven by pharmaceutical companies but it seems to play into their hands (bank accounts) to drive the standard down?🤷♂️ It only makes sense that a lower pressure will cause less vessels bursting………..a garden hose with Zero pressure doesn’t leak…………. Thanks for all your videos……….they are awesome!!!!

Seems to me that one of the problems with the new guidelines of everyone should be < 120/80 is that even though commonsense would say this is unrealistic and rather ridiculous is that it has become "the standard of care" and many doctors who work for large medical corporations MUST tell patients they should be on meds if their BP is higher or risk a malpractice charge or being fired. It's the same with the current situation with statins - I was told I should be on statins with total chol of 193, HDL 59, LDL 118, and TRI of 83. It's become ridiculous!

As a Type 2 diabetic, I was placed on both Metformin and Lipitor 5 years ago. I was tired of being overweight and definitely didn’t like taking medication. I changed my diet to strict no carbs or sugar and after a month of carefully monitoring my blood glucose, I took myself off of both the medications. I’ve lost over 30 lbs in the process. Doctors never discuss diet modification at all. All they want you to do is take pills for the rest of your life. I’m not going to play their game!

I'm coming to conclusion that my nascent challenge with high BP is mostly how I handle stress. I do have thyroid issues, Vit D deficiency. 120 lbs, 5'6", lots of manual labor (garden + neat-freak). Typically think how lucky I am (until this, lol). Lucky to have PC whose views align well with what I'm learning here and he reminds me to keep in mind how very powerful is the mind. Keeping that upfront in my head and listening to these excellent videos (plus prayer) has been so good, can't thank you enough.

My BP was very high for years and before taking meds I fasted for 8 days and checked three times a day, suddenly it went normal. Then I tried eating all kinds of dangerous foods like coffee, salt, sugar, etc and the BP stayed normal. Then after a few years the BP was up again so I fasted for 4 days and it went normal. The explanation is that the snack foods cause insulin resistance and produce a fatty liver, this is inflammatory and is an illness and produces a reaction in the BP. Doctors check BP to determine your state of health, inflammation causes the BP to rise.

I'm 5'7 and keep my weight under 135 lbs. I'm on hypertension pills for more than 10 years. I don't smoke, don't drink and I've been told that's genetic. With the daily pill, my blood pressure stills fluctuate between 150 and 130. Without the pill, I can go up to 170. So I'm guessing I need to be on medication forever? I love your videos. Thank you.

Can we add one more "myth" that drives me nuts, related to white coat hypertension and stress...you might say. I went to the doctor the other day for severe pain in my foot (Morton's neuroma). I got seated in the exam room, and the nurse took my blood pressure---what the F?! I'm in for foot pain. I am in pain. I got stressed out by crazy drivers on the way to the doctor's office. I have the traditional white coat issue. And...the staff checks my BP?! That is not what I am there for, and could not care less about my current BP. The only time BP should be checked is in an annual (or however often) physical, or if a patient is in the doc's office specifically for a high BP issue. It is a *myth* that BP should be checked at ever doctor visit.

Can you give me some ideas ? Please

I heard because the arteries are more constrictive in the winter and your blood is thicker in the cold weather. When it's summer, your arteries and veins are more expanded and your blood is thinner. ?

Dr. Story, does everyone with a bio-replaced [aortic] valve need to take a blood pressure medication such as Metoprolol? My cardiologist says yes, but my PCP does not agree this is the correct treatment. She says Metoprolol is a nasty drug with a lot of side effects. I don’t know who to believe.
@louisd9571414 сағат бұрын
Metoprolol slows down the heart rate, so am guessing that your cardiologist is suggesting to keep taking it to relieve as much stress on the replaced valve as possible.
@chalktalkwithshari417314 сағат бұрын
@ yes, that’s what he said; however, my PCP said there are other drugs that will work with less side effects.

Pill or gym + good weight/height ratio?

Odd thing happened to me. I am overweight from years of depression but after my mother's passing in 2022 (age 83) I went to the clinic for an infection and my BP was 180/100. I was shocked because three months prior it was around 135/90. I just started menopause and I assumed the stress of my mother's death contributed. I went on the highest dose of Valsartan HCTZ by a brand called Alembic. BP went down to 118/64. Doctor was happy but I felt like I was dragging through mud. 8 months later the brand was changed and my BP shot up again! I had lost 20lbs but it was now back at 170/100! Couldn't find the original brand but was switched to another. BP went down to 150/75. I have now lost 60 lbs total with 100 more to go. Told my new doctor that I didn't think this Valsartan brand was working as well because the numbers are still 140-150/75-80. I am also taking 10k IU Vitamin D, a garlic capsule, 800mg magnesium taurate, 500 mg ashwaganda and hibiscus tea. 25mg CBD to sleep at night. Complete whole foods diet. Rebounding three times a week. He said that that was the best one for me and wouldn't change it. A month ago my pharmacy could not get the brand of Valsartan I have been taking for 6 months. I started adding Hawthorne, blood pressure tea, Coq10, banana/strawberry/beet smoothies and other things to my daily routine until I could get my medication. My BP for the past 3 weeks has been 140-150/72-80 WITHOUT medication! I have decided to continue the natural route and hopefully as more weight comes off my numbers will go down. I'm 56 so I understand it is not as easy but possible. Thank you for your videos. They are very encouraging and informative. Truly appreciate you! 🙏
