Sociopaths said that stuff about slapping a woman in the 1820s, and even then, most people disagreed. But Sean Connery said it in all seriousness, knowing he was on national TV, in the 1980s. Wealth and fame (especially wealth) clearly insulate people too much from reality. Which is alarming when you consider that the rich and famous people are running the world.
@qty13155 жыл бұрын
They are definitely not running the world. What tends to happen is that, for every celebrity with a lot of money and not a lot of brains, there's someone who wants to use that money. So, you get assistants, vice-presidents, middle managers, lawyers, accountants who pounce on these celebrities, tell them everything they want to hear, then convince them to use their money to make them a bit wealthier. Those people don't care who they hurt, they don't care if the celebrity is absolutely nuts, they just want them to give them money.

Just shouting racial slurs is not enough for a joke in my opinion, but hey. Complaining about how people these days are too sensitive is just what comedians do once they old, settled and think they get to tell the audience what should be funny rather than adapt their material like a young and hungry comedian would. +Snuggle Cuddles Observational comedy can be very good, and most stand up comedians do it well. Saying, for example, "have you seen these young kids today, all concerned about the environment, and our future? So I asked my kids to put together a list of friends to have a party, but everyone swiped left, like it's Tinder". That way it's accurate to point out the hypocrisy, that is social media, for claiming to stand up for important matters, but when it comes to actual human relationships, they are fully capable to throw other people into the garbage. Political correctness has the same age as millennials, and people claiming to be taking a joke are equally hypocrites, because they aren't, as evidenced by any video ever made on social issues, calling for the end of movements supporting them. When I watched Jane Austen's Mafia, I found a lot of things funny in it, interpreting them as satire, until I saw An American Carol, and had to realize, Jeebus on a pogo stick, this director actually thinks those jokes are actually true. The key is to find the fine balance, because satire can't be adapted on people, who're powerless. Turning around Kelly Osborne's comment could have been turned around by saying "Mila Kunis did not play in Ted 2, because Jupiter ascending is set in Trump's America" which would answer perceived sanitation issues after deportation, though hugely missing the point, that neither are all Latinos Mexican, nor are all Mexicans illegal immigrants. Speaking of which, she actually hanged herself by quickly claiming she wants no part of the argument she just started.

There is a very practical reason for Seinfeld's stance. He calls out the campuses being too politically correct, but it means that his humor will not translate well to a college campus. Part of this probably relates to having very different understandings of culture and context. I am not a comedian, but my guess is that they generally need to play at areas that will be entertained by their acts. This is also in part observational humor about the uptight nature of some college campuses. His daughter's response might have been her attempt at humor or a teenager's need to rebel and self actualize. I also do not sense genuine hatred towards any of it. Maybe frustration and confusion at the worst. There is also a clip with Seinfeld, Louis C.K. and Chris Rock where Seinfeld more or less states that he cannot make that type of joke and the type of humor makes him uncomfortable. I'm also not entirely sure where the performer ends and the person begins. There is also the well known trope of drawing humor from aging and being out of touch with younger generations. I have no idea how Jerry Seinfeld actually feels, but I think that some of what is seen as being out of touch is part of his act.

And I don't remember her saying that only Latinos clean toilets, and I don't remember her saying that if you are Latino that your only job opportunities are cleaning toilets . And there is an overwhelming amount of Latino people in the cleaning industry ..obviously you can be any race and be a house keeper or w.e it's called , but alot of time when you hire a cleaning service at least a couple of the people working it will be latino... and I must say before people jump down my throat on this , I know polish people and Russian people and others that are all in the cleaning industry ..most of them are immigrants though

Seinfeld has a point though, and he is not the only comedian with that opinion. He is joined by people like Chris Rock, Patton Oswalt, John Cleese and Gilbert Gottfried to name a few. Are you going to claim that John Cleese has lost his mind too? Because I don't think that will go over well. Hell, even Amy Schumer once said: "I will joke about things you are uncomfortable with. And that’s okay. Stick with me and trust I am joking." and "I am not going to start joking about safe material….Trust me, I am not a racist. I am a devout feminist and lover of all people." and the best part: "I am not going to start joking about safe material. And don't ask that of me." So apparently a lot of comedians have lost their minds. Strange.

The problem is that he's blaming the audience for not appreciating his tired and boring comedy act. I imagine that there are plenty of people who think "what's the deal with kids and their cellphones?" is the height of wit, and I imagine that very few of those people are high school/college aged.
@PinataFreaks9 жыл бұрын
ladydontekno That is not what he is saying. He is saying that people now think that some things are forbidden to say when it comes to comedy. I think John Cleese hit the head on the nail when it comes to political correctness in comedy when he said that: "It starts out as a halfway decent idea, but then it goes completely wrong. Taken to absurd lengths. I used to go out and do these race jokes. I'd say 'french', you know 'why do the french have so many civil wars? So they can win one every now and then'. 'Why are Australians so well balanced? Because they have a chip on each shoulder'. I used to do these jokes and then I'd say 'there were these two Mexicans' and the whole place would go [gasps and a shocked expression]. And I said: 'What? You can make jokes about Swedes and Germans and French and English and Canadians and Americans, so why can't we make jokes about Mexicans?' They said 'Because they are so feeble that they can't look after themselves.' So you see it is very, very condescending." Why is it ok to joke about some groups of people, but it is wrong and politically incorrect to joke about others? Is it because you think they can't handle it? Then maybe you are the racist, not the comedians.
@PinataFreaks8 жыл бұрын
***** People are not just "not laughing". They are demanding comedians to be no-platformed and they are sending them hateful messages. Sometimes they even purposefully twist their words just so they can complain about it. Like Donald Glover. In his standup he mentions that he likes to sleep with what he considers "the black women of every culture" as an example he mentions Armenians as the black women of Europe, and Filipinos as the black women of Asia. Guess what tumblr did? They accused him of hating black women, fetishizing asians and excluding Filipinos as "real asians". Why? Because fuck your context, logic and reason, this is outrage culture. He also mentions that once during sex with an Armenian girl she said "Fuck me with that 'n-word'-dick" and he says he came so hard it almost made it worth being black his entire life. What problem did they have with that? Internalized racism of course. Sure, why not. Not liking jokes isn't harmful. But demanding that nobody else should see the comedians because you dislike them or twisting their words to shit to make them seem like assholes, that is harmful.

Jack, why does the fact that Seinfeld does harmless observational humor about "airplane peanuts and chopsticks" weaken his point about PC culture? Doesn't it support his point that it's gone too far when even harmless observational humor is being called offensive?

+SteeleBonesaw Also, the reason the king needs to be gay for the joke is so it fits with the flamboyant hand gesture. I don't understand how anyone could miss that.
@ladydontekno9 жыл бұрын
Instead of whining about political correctness, he could actually make his jokes funny.
@MrKrevlornswath9 жыл бұрын
+ladydontekno But those are two separate issues. First of all, I find his comedy funny, so clearly the funniness of the joke is subjective. But even if it was somehow objectively unfunny, why does that make it any more appropriate for people to be offended by it on the grounds of political correctness? The only thing that should matter when deciding if his "whining" about pc culture is valid, is whether the jokes are indeed offensive, not whether the jokes are funny. So in that regard, it is presumably Seinfeld's opinion that using the word "gay" to conjure the image of a stereotype (as he does in the joke in question) isn't being derogatory towards gay people. If you disagree with that opinion, then that's what you should talk about, because the conversation Seinfeld is having is about what's "allowed" to be said in jokes by politically correct standards. But to say "it isn't funny" is a copout and it's really meaningless because comedy is subjective.
@ladydontekno9 жыл бұрын
+SteeleBonesaw the reason I don't find the joke funny is because it's not a good or unique observation. The punchline isn't really about a gay stereotype, it's "what's the deal with kids and their cellphones?" That type of thing would have been funny in the 80s, but this isn't the 80s. I've never found Seinfeld to be funny, but at this point in his career I really do expect better jokes from him than lazy observations. So I think it's very lazy of him to blame "political correctness" when it's really the fact that his joke just wasn't good.
@MrKrevlornswath9 жыл бұрын
+ladydontekno I know this is getting really detailed into a pretty insignificant matter, but I'll go ahead anyway. I honestly think Seinfeld isn't blaming political correctness when his jokes fall flat for other reasons. Granted, I've never been to one of his shows, but I'm sure a comedian who's been working 30 years (or however long he's worked) would be able to discern the reactions of an offended audience from an unamused one. Seinfeld is not my favorite comedian by a long shot, so I do agree some of his jokes are corny or outdated to me. But what this cracked video is saying (and you are also implying this) is that whenever people don't laugh at his jokes it's because they're bad/lazy jokes, and not because they contain material the audience considers offensive. I just think it is unfair to dismiss his complaint about overly-sensitive audiences, if only because in this matter, I trust his expertise and experience over the opinion of Jack O'Brien or any other non-standup comedian.

@russellhowens8 жыл бұрын
+Super Awesome Space Paladin That is the whole point. They simply show a fact that one person says more words, and act as if that is evidence to prove sexism. That is how political correctness works in today's world. The PC police then run around screaming how sexist it is. The people that worry about this PC crap don't care about the details for why the facts are the way they are. For example you could make a show where the guy is a clown, that says stupid stuff, and makes the audience laugh, while the women plays the character that with a few words fixes the mess he got himself into. It wouldn't mean that the show was sexist, but it would mean the funny character would get more lines. Likewise with feminists demanding better female role models this has lead to guys often being the only ones shows are allowed to make fun of without being called sexist. This means that in most cases the male characters will be more interesting. So in many cases studios can be damned if they do, and damned if they don't.

It's strange how it's wrong to make jokes about gays, transgenders and the like. But if you believe in creationism we can call you ignorant. I'm sick of the way PC guilts person into accepting their way of thinking. Sean Connery is from a time and culture that accepted that type of behavior. However, Sean Connery been married 2 times.His first marriage lasted 10 years and his second just past 40 years. While Barbara Walters has been married 4 times. Her first marriage lasted only 11 months! Her second made it to 13 years. She then married the same man twice, first time for 3 years and the last time for 6 years. Barbara has admitted to affairs with other men. But she has the nerve to throw stones.

Believing in evolution isn't "politically correct", it's just correct. Period. Yes, you are an idiot if you believe in creationism. Have a nice day.
@Night-Mayor9 жыл бұрын
You know that there are scientists that believe in creationism. Most are afraid to let their beliefs be known due to the bias atheists have. They have this smug attitude of superiority. However the fact that a majority of the world still believes in a faith. That they are outnumbered annoys them. Why not just say that you are descended from monkeys and others were created by divine intervention. 😊.
@ladydontekno9 жыл бұрын
+Darren Chase amazingly, you can be a person of faith AND a believer in evolution. Most Jews and Muslims believe in evolution. Catholic schools explicitly teach evolution. Many Protestants also believe in evolution, depending on the church. I'm not attacking religious people when I say creationists are idiots, I'm attacking idiots. Which is what you are if you are a creationist.
@Night-Mayor9 жыл бұрын
+ladydontekno Actually they believe in God but still teach evolution as another theory that exist. I wouldn't call an evolutionist an idiot. Just someone whose beliefs differ from mine. The way I don't hate Hindu or Muslims. See I believe in my faith but I don't criticize others for their beliefs. I was disappointed in this Cracked skit because it decided that someone with a faith was an idiot. However, those same people want me to respect the belief of a man that claims he is a woman on the inside. Now that is hypocrisy. I may not believe as they do but I don't tell them they are delusional idiots.
@jessicalee3339 жыл бұрын
+Darren Chase 1. That's false equivalence. Believing in a religion is not an immutable biological quality you were born with as gender identity and sexual orientation have been proven to be - although personally, I don't think people should be made fun of for their beliefs (especially since they were usually raised with them). Furthermore, religious people are in the overwhelming majority all around the world, they're not a vulnerable group... they're just an easy target I suppose. 2. "Actually they believe in God but still teach evolution as another theory" - You're ascribing motives to people based on an incorrect assumption. I know for one thing the official doctrine of the Catholic church is that evolution is scientific fact. You're also assuming that people can't have faith and believe evolution. You're not in anyone's head but your own, you don't know what they believe - but you're ignoring how many people claim to believe that evolution is scientifically valid AND are still religious people (a significant number of people). Are you assuming that all those people are lying and teaching evolution without believing in it? Because I'd say that's a LOT of assumptions for one argument. 3. Also, by the information you cited, you seem to be suggesting that Sean Connery beating his wives is successful strategy for a marriage and Barbara Walters opposition to being beaten is an unsuccessful strategy. Is that what you're really saying, or have I got you wrong?

There's way of poking fun though. There's doing it in a generally funny, light hearted way and then there is the bitter, rude, and generally mean spirited. The first will rarely offend someone, the second will always offend no matter who you're saying it to.

+MorganTaysha Indeed. Notice how they never leave the toilet seat up? Selfish bitches.
@Lobos2229 жыл бұрын
+MorganTaysha Nothing wrong with saying sexism is wrong and you shouldnt generally hit a Women. Because in most cases a Women is allot smaller than a Man. In nations with sane self defense laws you actually see the same thing between Men. As in if a large guy gets assaulted by a tiny guy with a short temper or whatever (fisticuffs style, not knives or gun etc). The large guy is allowed to defend himself, but hes not allowed to use excessive force. Because if he does, its not considered self defense anymore and the stature of the person counts in this regard. So in most cases. If you, as a Man, is attacked by a Women and you defend yourself as you would vs a Man. You would then in most cases use more force than is deemed valid. The flip side is that the same thing counts towards the Women if she is allot stronger and so on compared to the Man she is defending herself against.

People already hit women, genius, that's why they're saying that. They are asking men to STOP hitting women. But keep blaming the PC police.
@MorganTaysha9 жыл бұрын
Sir/Madam, you've completely missed the point. People hit men too and that's considered fine. What I'm saying is that it is completely fine to hit a woman as long as it's held to the same standard as hitting a man, which should be limited and only in certain situations. If you support the double-standard then that makes you a sexist and if you're already standing for women's rights then you are a hypocrite.
@tombranch22619 жыл бұрын
+MorganTaysha Actually its not considered fine, its considered assault, and is a criminal offence punishable by jail time.

I think washing food in your mouth, & birding, has actually been historically pretty common & safe. I remember watching a hasidic lady wash grapes off in her mouth before passing them to her kid on the subway once. Grossed out, i asked a non-hasidic jewish physician & its actually common & not harmful. People do it with pacifiers all the time, cut grapes/food in half with their teeth all the time. Its similar to kissing your child on the mouth, youre passing on healthy germs, & its really not a big deal. What do you think people did before gerber & blenders...? So while socially seen as cringeworthy, it actually happens regularly & shouldnt be seen as dangerous (with the presumption you dont have a known communicable disease you could be passing on or like, the flu). People today also are weird about things like wet nursing, which has been common & necessary for survival for Farrrrr longer than it's been deemed “gross” in small pockets of the world like the US.

A bit of pandering...2015/16 have been known to the PC years, You can point to South Park for making this obviously apparent. You can't say "Gay" anything without the LGBT community coming down on you...that was his point. Trying to deconstruct a very simple joke is lame.
