Not the chicken just idiots who try and pretend blacks are the only ones who eat it, or that they eat fried Exclusively, try going to lunch with a co-worker who gets upset that you're going for steak, and they want fried chicken, (not even that he wanted the chicken he'd heard that I sometimes eat mine with a fork and knife) and the fact that you're eating steak ruined the whole reason for them accepting the invitation to lunch. Never seen a man fall apart so quickly over something so stupid, lucky he didn't have to walk back to work. It's almost as if we've unknowingly been fetishised in some people's minds, I'm thinking really what the fuck is it about seeing another man eat fried chicken that made this so important to you. Then I had to turn it off because I didn't like the direction my own thoughts were taking.
@j.h.68357 жыл бұрын
There's quite a bit of history there. When the slaves were first freed, the farm land they were allocated was as a rule of thumb small and poor quality. Black people however learned to make do by raising chicken (which require little space) and watermelons (which can thrive on very poor quality soil as long as there's enough water). These food items not only became stables in their diet, eventually becoming part of the cuisine, but were also popular enough to allow the farmers to prosper. This irked the pro-slavery folk to no end, as the crux of their argument had been that black people HAD to be kept in slavery since they simply couldn't take care of themselves. So they started painting chicken and watermelons as the food of simpletons which black people produced and ate not because they were cheap, tasty and easy to produce, but because they were obsessed with them and just couldn't help themselves. So the stereotype has a pretty ugly history behind it, and the negative connotations have never fully faded.

@2:35 The main issue with shoes like these is how people walk/jog/run. 99.99% of folk walk *_heel to toe_* and this causes a *lot* of issues. When your heel hits the ground your entire body weight is going through those joints simultaneously hence the oversized heel cushion, but there is an answer. Walking/jogging/running *_ball to heel_* has a profound effect on the stresses placed on your joints... not only does it allow you to easily change where your foot will land (something *heel/toe* does not allow), it greatly lowers the pressures on your joints as it slows down the transfer of weight, thus saving them from later in life permanent joint injury. It takes some practice to master but the rewards are *HUGE:* increased calf strength, better posture, the ability to change where your foot lands as previously mentioned and long term reduction on stresses and injuries to your leg joints. The interesting thing is (well, two interesting bits) that it was only in the last couple few hundred years that we changed from *ball/heel* to *heel/toe* because of a massive change in footwear design. The other bit of note is that children naturally start out with *ball/heel* run... it's something they lose as they get older as shoes are designed for *heel/toe* with large cushiony heels. Having shoes with a flatter sole makes *ball/heel* much easier. Many peoples from around the world run in the *ball/heel* style and it's only relevance is that it's not a bunch of *_"weirdo"_* crunchy hippies doing it. Try it out for yourself... it feels awkward at first but soon becomes your default mode and you'll be all he better for it. The way it works is as follows: You point your right foot down towards the ground before you make contact with the ball of your foot. With your left foot standing flat against the ground you can change where your right foot will be placed, regardless of if you've started to place it down in one spot... once the spot is chosen you lower your heel until your right foot is flat on the ground. You then do the same process with your left foot and the series repeats ad infinitum (or at least until you've sat down). This change in style will greatly improve your life, I'm not kidding, I suffered a massive back injury and the amazing physical therapist I had who taught me this method is forever my hero since all this stress on my joints being gone has greatly reduced my pain level. There's a great video on the history and method of *ball walking* at the following link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6TdqIyEq9t2oLM Pretty irrelevant comment considering the focus of this video, but I really believe that *ball walking* can help a *_LOT_* of people and want to share it wherever possible as it can change people's lives for the better.

Honestly this is one of the best comments I've read in awhile. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity and also thanks for the informative advice. I've been walking ball/heel all day today and it actually does take a lot of pressure off the joints and back lol.

I love it when I find a random very passionate comment, so authentic and natural. Most people don't want to be bothered I guess... What's odd about this is I now discover I've had it backwards. I've never found using my heels first or at that kind of angle to be comfortable, and when running am on the ball of the foot. I've tried to run heel-toe many times in the past and it's almost impossible. The biggest problem is you push off with the toe+ball of the foot, so where do you change to the heel? Most of the time my heel never touches the ground. A lot of fairly athletic and exercise oriented people have said I run weird. Human beings are strange from being so adaptable.

That's what one could call "american culture hegemony". If sth has some connotation in the USA society, Americans expect to feel the same guilt-feeling from others. It is like expecting from "kiwis" to be mentally obeyed to "aussies" in every interpretation of the surrounding world. There is sth wrong with american transformation of narratives about the world. They are a huge partner for others, but should not repeat the faults and insults of the past, by extending to other countries/nations, their struggle with redefinition of narratives. Maybe USA feels alone on its path through demythologization of culture etc. but they always want to be the avantgarde. Are they afraid that their civilization is crumbling like a Roman Empire? If so, they can learn from history, instead of yelling and trying to rectify those who have different opinions from them. It is so much blah-blabing about freedom of speach and tollerance for different opinions, while in practice it is just reprogramming society so that HR (human resources - "What an oppressive name!? Like for pigfarm tenants! Must be American founded term.", to quote some opinions) can be ready for closer to optimal exchange for money, of their most valuable yet non-renewable irreversible asset (time). What an irony - money, which is based on fiduciary fundaments (people believe that printed scrap of paper bears some value), for life time. Fiduciary money - in societies where the lack of faith and honesty is so prevalent, the system must crumble down. Meanwhile people will be entartained by tertiary problems as the basic problems need hard work instead of secular preaching. There was a horse in the Roman Senate introduced there by bloodthirsty lover of animals (mentally ill tyrann). The irony is that these self-proclaimed organizations for everyone's goods (except human tax-payers) will one day introduce to US Senate a horse or a dog, under the excuse of misrepresentation of society and a mankind guilt of the animal kingdom genocide. A healthy man can be viewed as mentally ill in the soul asylum. Period.

oh yeah - US assumes everyone shares their exact racism :D But on the other hand the person who pitched the add probably did and since its not as common knowledge there not enough people noticed before it was too late. Its also racist in the US for to assume black people like grape soda and/or watermelon... even though both those things are absolutely delicious and you should assume everyone likes them at all times.

ok the thing about the kfc advert: in New Zealand and Australia - kfc is one of the most popular fast foods for some reason. That, mc donalds and pizza hut. So that ad isn't saying ; 'dark skinned people like fried chicken' it's saying, 'everyone likes fried chicken, even if you're around total strangers or people supporting a different sports team to you, they will eat kfc with you.' It's not about their skin colour. In this case, the Australian guy (who supports Australia's cricket team that's obvious by his clothes) was sitting in the middle of a bunch of people who were supporters of another country's team (possibly West Indies?) (again obvious by what they are WEARING and how they are acting). I think Americans don't understand our cultures very well if they think it's about black people and white people. I know that the people around him are black but actually a lot of immigrants from other countries are not white (obviously)...and if they are from the West Indies then yeah, they will of course be black. It's not the same as an American advert at all.

With most people that would be one thing. However this is an advertisement agency: it's literally part of their job to know better (most big ad company creative departments are communication majors). Lol...ok literally every country in the West Indies and every country in the western developed world KNOWS why this is racist except Australia. Thats probably why it was marketed there then. Not because it wasn’t racist but because Australia couldn’t tell it was racist. An American is saying how multiple people around the world found this racist. It’s just too easy to defend how others may find this racist...too easy! Oh yeah😑...all people from the West Indies aren’t black...obviously!

The Australian add for KFC is of an Australia cricket supporter sitting in a group of West Indian cricket supporters. KFC was the sponsor of the West Indian Cricket Team when it toured Australia. Ironically, someone who fails to take into account the context of something and simply points and shouts "racism" when less divisive interpretations exist maybe the most racist person of all. In Australia KFC is affiliated with the sport 'cricket' and is branded as something that brings people together. That is a cricket player and he appears to be at a cricket game, however he somehow ended up sitting on the opposing teams' stand, thus the awkward situation. We don't have the stereotype that Black peoples like fried chicken here.

Truly Cracked, Australia has a serious racism problem. What you showed is the tip of the iceberg tbh

And yes it offended black Americans as they were the ones to complain about the ad, but i dont remember any West Indies supporters saying jack about it and they are the ones being targeted in it.
@natr37538 жыл бұрын
+stereobeatle I kinda feel the outcry against the cricket ad is bigoted, especially when it is from white Americans. It's like when Lorde was called racist for Royals because Americans failed to accept that other cultural lens are valid. Juxtaposing the ad with other examples from Australian media doesn't make it the same thing, sometimes it's the people that see a problem with something innocent that have the issue. Cracked: it is problematic when you see West Indian people as African American people, as if they have the same culture and experiences, and get offended for them. Stereotypes aren't universal/global, they are regional, stop assuming the rest of the world has the same cultures, values and prejudices.
@JamesHenstridge8 жыл бұрын
+Dream Delirium There was a fair bit of outcry about that blackface example. It was from a talent show segment of a variety show called Hey Hey its Saturday, and had an American on as a guest judge that episode (Harry Connick Jr). He was offended enough to leave the show. Most of the media coverage afterwards questioned why they thought it was a good idea to put an act like that on air in the first place.
@JamesHenstridge8 жыл бұрын
nat r: the "Australian black face" example from the video definitely looked like the Hey Hey incident, so I assume that's what they were talking about. I agree that there are probably better examples of modern Aussie racism though. Anything to do with assylum seekers would be a start.

"Too easy" is a saying here in Australia. It pretty much means the same as "no worries" and they are both just an expression that don't use the words literally. It doesn't have anything to do with how easy something is. Person A: I am going to the shops, back in 20 minutes. Person B: Too easy. This is normal. Similarly when Australians say "no worries" we aren't saying that we are not worried. It's closest translation is probably I acknowledge what you said or that something positive occurred, but with all of our sayings you can pretty much just use them in any way completely for no reason and the other person is just expected to know what it means. It's probably a bit unusual for other cultures to understand.. but I am sure you get the "tangerine chicken" of what I am saying (see I used a random phrase that means nothing instead of the word "point" and Australian's would have understood without this note).
@seeuavtownsville8 жыл бұрын
Disclaimer: Not stating if the KFC ad was racist or not, but people seem a bit hung up on why "too easy" was said not understanding what it means in Australia.
@Roper1228 жыл бұрын
It's not. There's no tradition of depicting West Indian people in Australia as eating fried chicken. So while it may have been racist in the US, it wasn't in Australia. If they are going to say that KFC in Australia should have done their homework, then the same applies to them.

That Australian KFC ad is a cricket ad about an Australian at a game in amongst their sports opposition, the West indies. While Australia can be rascist. That ad is not a rascist ad, it is a sports ad. It just happens that Most people in Australia are white and most people in West Indies are black. Which means the team supporters tend to be those colours. Perhaps if you panned the camera to the cricket field it would make sense in context. And to reiterate, yes, Australians can be rascist. but that ad in context is not.

We should give up the word "Racism", because it is, in itself, a derogatory term. There is only one race, the Human race. The idea that we are different "races" because of our skin color or nationality is a man-made concept that came into existence in our more-recent history. It divides our population into categories that define us as good or bad. We would have a much better world if we stop the nonsensical notions that one color of human beings is innately different than another and allow everyone to progress at their own level.

So that "racist" chicken ad is only racist if it is taken way out of context. 1) The black people were West Indians, who were the touring international cricket side that year. 2) This was one of a series of half a dozen ads that had the exact same punchline - person finds themselves in an awkward situation and solves it by offering KFC. 3) Fried Chicken is not a racist stereotype in Australia; and 4) As soon as the controversy became a thing in the US (where the ad did not play), KFC pulled the ad and issued an apology. So in short, it was the racist Americans thinking that all black people are African American, that all other countries have the same racist memes as them who made this into a controversy. That's not to say that racism isn't a problem here but that ad is only problematic when you take it completely out of context.

Yeah! How dare they give you free content that you're under no obligation to watch/read! You may not be completely on bored with their political leanings, but please, for the love of fuck, think of a less lazy argument to what they're saying than just throwing the whole anti "SJW" bullshit around like a moist sock.

Hello there, just a fair warning for whoever is seeing this. If you don't want to see thousands of comments about people unironically using the term "SJW", crying about how Cracked is becoming too politically correct and crowd pleasing, discussions of the random amounts of thumbs down these videos are getting, please turn back.

wow. I read your comment and just had to challenge it. not a full thumb swipe below your comment and you were proven correct. I'm writing this to apologize for questioning you.

Wait, so, the Australian KFC add was racist because Americans ruined chicken for black people? How is this even a legit reason? xD And then you throw Black Face and Current Affair clips on top just to say, "Look, it's okay if you don't understand what we're talking about, Australia, so we're just going to act like we aren't calling you stupid and throw in a bunch of shit to confuse everyone" - just like Australians saying "Oh gosh, America, this is just like you to act like this and over-annalize shit you don't understand", it's just stupid and pointless and makes no sense, yeah? Just, fyi though, I *AM* Australian but I'm totally not pissed about this. It's fucking funny xD
@johnsmith-sp6yl8 жыл бұрын
+Aryanna Rose it's racist because he (a wite person) handed a bucket of frie chicken to a crowd of black people. the racist stereotype of black people being obsessed with chicken may have been started in the U.S. but it is now a global problem. it's racist because of the stereotype it references and perpetuates.

+Aryanna Rose LOL Perth WA here. I just happened to click on this video while I was eating some Hot-N-Spicy KFC. So disappointed that I didn't find a little plastic " N--ger " in my box as a gift. Joking. I honestly cant see what is wrong with this advert either. I bet my last GF ( who was aboriginal ) could find a number of issues with it though.Talk about racism - She didn't like her sisters husband because his mother was from a northern tribe and his father was Japanese. That`s 2 no - no`s right there. A mixed breed from a different tribe AND Asian. Grounds for a fight right there apparently. But what can you say about some people that cant accept people with the same skin tone just because they originate from another part of the same land mass. Was a pretty decent and polite fellow but she rarely spoke to him and always looked at him with contempt verging on hatred. Her mother used to call me " Whitey " but apparently that isn't racist because only whites are racist.
@Jimmysnovacaine8 жыл бұрын
It isn't racist, but rather stereotypical to the point of absurdity. Probably a bad judgement call because I can see why people would get offended, but in all seriousness it isn't that bad.
@lieutenantkettch8 жыл бұрын
+john smith No, an Australian cricket fan handed a bucket of chicken to a crowd of West Indies fans. That the Aussie was white and the Windies supporters were black is merely incidental.
@noevilea83708 жыл бұрын
+lieutenantkettch OK lol now I see the issue. A non-racist gesture ( feeding people chicken ) has been twisted to be exactly that which it is not. More proof that people are just looking for something to turn into a legal battle. Then again - Isnt everyone in America BORN with their own lawyer these day ? Seems the process has gone from one of Inalienable Rights to that position usually referred to as " Defendant ".

+Ireallyneedhelpnaopls It doesn't exist anywhere but the US. For example, the entire African continent is oblivious to it, like most other stereotypes around "black people".
