We had a pneumonia infected pig that we bought from Petsmart without knowing he had it. We had him checked out at Petsmart, which ended up almost killing him! They didn't give him the medicine who he needed! Then, we brought him to an exotic vet who explained what we really needed! Adopt, don't shop1!

I used to have 2 guinea pigs, scarlet and Michael, both being unwilling but did well together because they never fought or got annoyed with each other but were always yelling for food even when the bowl was full with food and a full container of water. Sadly scarlet passed away which made me expect she was a lot older than Michael and how she always kinda forced Michael to get food after her so she gets more food then Michael. Michael does well by himself but is always in the corner unwilling to move. He eventually got a little used to me just for it to fail after my dad had grabbed him by the waist and dropped into a box where he barely fit. Dad cleaned his cage but when he was let back in he was petrified, not moving out of the corner unless a hand went near him. I hate how my dad handles animals because he treats them like slaves. I’m a huge animal lover, specifically birds. I’ve always been responsible, always got as and bs in school, maintained a weight between being gamer and animal caretaker. Dogs and cats are cute but cleaning up after to much for my sensitive stomach. Guineas are easy to take care of and are easy to take care after. Michael was fed pellets but then I learned these are unhealthy and need to be constantly fed veggies. I have changed and started giving him veggies and fruit as desert because he loves apples, mostly red and honey crisp. I love them as much as he does and he was fed a mix of cilantro carrot and apple as a breakfast feast and have big plans for him. I plan on making a larger cage with hidey holes and play areas, a wheel, a stair case leading up to his current place where I can feed him and a lot more space and fun activities. This will hopefully help him and another guinea I plan on getting which will hopefully be female and his age which is about ages 2-4 I haven’t checked. My dad thinks I’m overreacting but true animal lovers will go out of their way to make their animal/s happy. Thank you for reading this and please like so little adventures can see this.

When I got my piggy I waited to put her in the permanent cage because one day later I got another piggy and put them in the permanent and they explored the new cage together and now they love each other so much I don't think I could have a better pare of Piggys and I the first day I had them they were eating out of my hand!!!🐹🐹😊

We have the odd ball Guinea pig! He did not want another pig. He was off by himself as a baby in with the other pigs and we were even told he didn’t want anything to do with the others, of course my daughter picks him and named him Kagami. I think the rumor about them living a short time is caused by people who take poor care of them and end up causing an early death of their pets sadly. Mine both lived to 8 years, which wasn't ideal but they were adopted from a hoarding case and had health problems.

so i was a little kid when i got my guinea pig, lucky. we got just one lone piggy and left his brother behind and i regret doing that. we also bought him a tiny cage. but we fixed it by getting a tiny guinea pig (gizmo) that nobody wanted when lucky was 2. we built them a pen and lucky was like a dad to gizmo. im really glad that we bought gizmo and its so much fun watching them cuddle together and play together. gizmo brings out lucky's playful side and lucky brings out gizmo's cuddly side. :)

Funny story actually I got my guinea pig from a breeder and she sold it to us as a girl and I had it as a girl for about a year and then I wanted to get another piggy and so I went to the pet store and I put the girl guinea pig I wanted in with my piggy and mine was making the purring sound boars do so I was a little suspicious so I went the vet and they told me my guinea pig was a boy which made me shook and I was bummed because I fell in love with the girl at the pet store so I couldn't adopt her but later I ended up adopting a guinea pig from the same place but a boy so it end well but it was terrible! I still love by babies though

I just adopted a piggy from PetSmart and the associate was AMAZING and obviously loved the piggy. She picked up the piggy with care and made sure she was calm before handing her to me. She helped me with choosing a cage and gave me helpful tips like not buying a wheel or ball (I didn't know it can damage their spine). She also helped with food and treats. I have had one piggy before but it was a long time ago so I'm learning all over again. My new piggy is a chocolate female with a orange stripe on her left side. It makes her look like a peanut butter cup so I named her "Reese." She is simply the cutest! I love the little noises they make. :0)

First we got Coco then afew days later we got Brownie because Coco was lonely. We think they are real sisters bc they are bff's they loved each other at first sight. Before Brownie we had Oreo. She and Coco didn't like each other and she but us so we returned her and got Brownie and Brownie was nice and love Coco.Plus they both love me. They sleep in me and always want to cuddle. I got an adolescent piggy as a companion for my 1.5 year old and the older one was immediately dominant and it worked out. I did a lot of research before I got the second piggy and it seemed this method was the easiest for transition. I kept them completely separate but near each other for a week and then the second week I put the small cage inside the big cage and eventually let them be together!

When I got my first pig, he was a baby and I read I a book just what you said: "the world is hudge, the human is hudge" and a good way to make stealing in for the pig easier is to put his cage on something higher up, like a table and the human starts to look only half us big. I have tried this out with all of my pigs and it work really great. Plus if they're on the table and I work there on my laptop I see them more and they see me more so they get used to me quicker.

My first genie pig died 3 days after I got him, when we were at the shop I noticed he was breathing wierdly and the pet store guy said he’s fine. When I took him home he kept breathing hard and he wouldn’t poop, pee eat or drink. He sat in his hut. I tried feeding him myself but he just wouldn’t. I woke up one morning to him looking horrible and I held him in my hands and comforted him until he passed. It was devastating and I had to wait a little before I got more pigs. I’ve now had these 2 for a year and a half and they don’t trust me, when my first trusted me immediately.

I picked my first one up ina cage that was a bit too shabby, so bought a better one. Then realized it would be too small for two piggies. Instead of buying a new one, I thaught them to go from one cage to the other. That way they can have a cage for themselves. They are open, so they can chose to explore the rest of my place. I live in a tiny apartment, so it is a pretty controlled environment. Making sure nothing on the floor can hurt them. Also they refuse to walk on the floor unless it has a carpet on it.

My boyfriend was gifted his first guinea pig that came from a pet store: it was a 'male' named Charlie. One morning, Charlie the male guinea pig had had 2 tiny guinea pig babies hahaha. we raised all of them ❤️❤️, they sadly all passed away from old age (8 years old). While it's true that guinea pigs that live as pets may live for 6-8 years, it's not always common. I breed guinea pigs (my family has over a hundred), and if your cavies are used for breeding than typically the sows only live for 3-4 years on average, just because there's more stress in their life and giving birth takes a toll on their body. Breeding boars tend to live longer than breeding sows, but still usually not as long as a pet cavy. You're right, though, that pets do tend to live 6-8 years, I just wanted to throw that tidbit of information out there because I find it interesting. :)

It's so much fun to watch your guinea pigs! I love small animals, but I simply don't have enough space for two rabbits (not even dwarfs) or two guinea pigs and I don't want a hamster - they are solitary animals but have such a short lifespan, some don't make it to age 3. Allover youtube there are people who think that you can keep a single rabbit or guinea pig as long as you let him roam freely, but I don't buy it. Virtually all published literature speaks against it. So, no animal friend for me. It's the only choice I can live with. But it's fun to watch other people's guinea pigs frolicking around.

I had 2 guinea pigs that came from the same batch and one died last december. I got a new guinea pig back then, but just now six months later the older one is just now getting over the death of his buddy.

Yes, they can grieve - my kid brother had one and when his roommate died, he looked really traumatized and died shortly after. And his roommate wasn't even a guinea pig, it was a dwarf rabbit. Please don't judge us, it was common practice a few decades ago, there was even published literature that recommended it, many people believed that they complimented each other. These days, it is no longer recommended; they speak different languages, a guinea pig will not groom a rabbit's ears (because their species does not have ears like that) and there is also some concern that the rabbit might injure the physically weaker guinea pig. However, in this particular case, the cross-species bonding worked out well.

I got my guinea pig yesterday and she makes so many different noises, I dont know if she's just nervous, hurting, calm or angry, she does like hiding g under my hair or my shirt anf she likes biting ears and necks.. she hasn't eaten a lot nor has she had a drink I think she is probably a bit sad leaving the place she was bred. She's a weird little piggy and her name is Sundaé😄😍 just wonder what high pitched squeaks mean and a constant noise of a low squeak but not really a squeak.. anyways adorbs lights❤

I think a lot of people buy only one guinea. We had a guinea that died from a leg accident before we could get her to the vet. Then we bought a male who wouldn't eat anything but grass then died the next day. Grass was a mistake too. After all this time we bought Butterscotch Little- (Scotch). She wasn't the prettiest (she was the one nobody wanted) but boy is she a good eater ! We saw that hay toy in the store today. I was afraid of it because she's a pup.

I bought a tinny Gini pig cage at the pet shop for my tinny guiniapigs (marked with "suitable for two guiniapigs) which coasted 50£.After doing a lot of research, went back to buy a cage for 70£, it was just enough space for them. But for Christmas I'm buying a two story versions for 85£. I'm wasting to much money.

i saw a huge rodent ball once at the pet store, but i didn't buy it because it cost 30 bucks, now i'm glad i didn't bc for 2 reason : 1 : what you said 2 : my guinea pig is huge and the ball is probably to small and he'll get freaked out

Good move. Rodent balls are fine for animals like hamsters whose spines can bend backward as well as forward, but guinea pig spines only bend forward. Putting a piggy in a rodent ball could actually cause a back injury.

Poisson Volant They are also horribly cruel for hamsters. They are prey animals, tucked into a ball with bad ventilation, they can't escape, can't hide, can't explore. They have nothing to gain from that experience and are laughed at by humans because they "look cute" , running to escape without getting anywhere....

When I bought one at a pet store we were talking about how we were getting it for our Guinea pig and they didnt correct us but luckily when we went to another pet store because they didnt have the bird my sister wanted to get, they told us it was bad for Guinea pigs and that it would hurt their back and so we took it back. Also, when I was visiting my grandparents, we went to their pet store and they never told us parakeets (the bird my sister was getting) couldnt have a cage with a round top and that it had to be square, and we were even talking about the parakeet with another lady in the store. So, I don't go those pet stores often anymore

I have one pig and his name is stitch, he looks like little one exept he's bigger and has a little stitch look on his eye, when I first got him he had been alone in the petstore and then alone in a small petstore cage, I bought the Midwest Guinea pig cage suitable for two pigs, I researched forever cause if I got another pig I wouldn't want to make the same mistakes with the wrong diet, no hay, or introducing pigs wrong, I will be getting a friend for him soon! He's a very chill piggy so I feel it will go right.

yea i brought my 2 guinea pigS 3 years ago as treat for myself, i was going to get a hamster but i fell in love at the pet shop, its a long story, but i ended up buying these two guinea pig sisters and they were 6 weeks old when i brought them, i took them home and made them all comfy and they loved it until i realised that one was getting very very fat, then i took it to the vet because i thought it was pregnant, the vet said she wasnt and told me to stop feeding it as much because it was just bloated,i felt awful that i had done this to my piggie, then it just kept growing and i literally had no clue what to do, then 7 weeks after the vet visit i walk into my guinea pigs room and there are 4 baby piggies huddled in the corner surrounding their mum and i literally just started crying because of how cute they were, so basically dont allways trust when pet stores sell you young guinea girlies, because i went from two guinea pigs, to 6 in the space of 9 weeks, but their all happy in their piggie room now so i guess it worked out fine XD

I’m picking up my guinea pigs new friend today (I would’ve got his brother at the same time but the lady had a very confusing ad and I only had the money to get the one that week) they are both young so hopefully they get along

Great video yes I bought 2 pigs at once , and my last piggies lasted for about 7years , you need to have a specialist vet yes those salt wheels are bad for them can cause them issues .

I have no idea how my solo guinea pig did so well. It was a male, I named Roosevelt, and SOMEHOW he managed to deal with 'just me' to live a good six years. Ultimately died of just being old, as opposed to stress issues. It was so bizarre to learn how they normally interact, and now I have a pair of girl peegs (not having the income to really support more, though I'd love to have even bigger setup with more antics).

Love this video! Your babies are so cute :) yes guinea pig forums have answered so many of my questions, I have 2 boys and I totally agree that you should rely on a forum for answers instead of searching through Google.
