I have a tiny 1 bedroom apartment and my food and water is just stocked everywhere in my unit. Tomorrow I will transform my bedroom walk-in closet to a pantry. I ordered some shelves which I will build together tomorrow. Good luck to everyone and stay safe!

A tip (if you don't already) for saving space on storing clothing and duvets/bedding which are seasonal is to use the plastic space bags where you suck the air out with a vacuum cleaner. You can also roll the air out of them but the vacuum is easier if available. I place a piece of paper with a list of what's in the bag on the part which stays flat after you've sucked the air out, so I can easily see exactly what's in there. I find the flatter style bags easiest as they can either stack easily horizontally, or you can slot them individually into vertical spaces when needed. It's amazing where you can fit them and it saves lots of space in which you can then store other items. It keeps all the fabrics clean and dry until they are needed again as seasons change. I've found them to be a great investment in our very small family home. I'd say if you're going to do that, the best plan is to quickly vac-pack all the winter items you have right now and find slots/cubby holes for them, because they do take slightly more space than smaller summer items (for example bulky sweaters rather than pairs of shorts/vests etc) so you will know for sure where exactly your bags will fit when it comes round to next summer and storing the winter stuff away. I hope that bit makes sense! Good luck to you, all the best.

When I lived in an apartment and started prepping back in 2009, I took the legs out from my bed and replaced them with milk crates and filled them up with cans and jugs of water. When you are pinched for room you begin to get clever.

You ever tried - Ponannah Unthinkable Prestige - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Such helpful information! When my husband and I were first married and dirt poor, we just bought extra pasta noodles and jars of pasta sauce for our storage . As we expanded, we just bought a few extra cans of food during sales and extra of whatever we usually eat. I always felt a little defeated because it wasn’t “real, dried, emergency food”. Then we began having kids, and one of them is an EXTREMELY picky eater. Having a pantry x 2 (double of everything) has turned out to be a huge blessing. We lived off our food storage for several months when my husband lost his job, and we used our money to buy fresh things. I learned how to make my own bread with flour from our emergency bins instead of buying bread. Also, having a deep freezer has allowed us to stock up on healthy frozen vegetables, fruits, and meats from Costco, this dramatically reducing our food budget each month because we have food stocked in the freezer. We just rotate what we need to buy and eat! Obviously this is not a power outage solution but having a deep freezer is tremendously helpful for meal planning and budgeting because you can buy in bulk (like at Costco and Sams club) and rotate. If we feel in the mood for milk shakes or smoothies, we don’t need to drive anywhere- we have vanilla ice cream and frozen fruit in the deep freezer! I love the concept of buying and storing what you already eat. We truly are creatures of habit and during a disaster, we need something familiar, especially kids. I need to start practicing cooking without power next.

I have been prepping for 12 years. First off store what you eat, eat what you store. We eat out of our preps everyday. I don't use my freezer all that much. When power goes you loose it all. Canning, dehydrating, mylar bags, and oxygen absorbers are your Best bets. I highly recommend even if you're not Mormon to go to the Mormon cannery in your state. Years ago when I started prepping they really helped me. Once you get your water and 3 months of food set up. Then you can start on other things like medical, personal hygiene and other things.

I was put to the test recently. We had a bad storm and lost power for 8 days. Out came our preps, candles, oil lamps, batteries, camp stove etc. The real task was to can the meat/food in the freezer. I canned for days to keep from losing it. Thank goodness I had enough canning supplies on hand.

I have fat fingers and small buttons. I was in Germany when the wall was being put up in Berlin. In school I learned to be ready all the time. Thought I was ready in 2004 when I got 2 Hurricane in one month. I found out that we can't be ready for everything. But must keep working at getting better at it. First if you are not ready for the type of things that happened in the part of the world you are in. Start there! You need to be ready for the power to be out for a week! That is a way to have some light, way to eat, and away to get information. If you can't do that then start there. Where I am it is Hurricane, other places it is snow storm, earth quake, tornado, or what ever happens around what you are. when you can go for a week with No outside help, then start working on a month and keep making it longer. Someday you may get where you can go for 2 years, that is when you are starting to be ready!

The Provident Prepper The dollar tree has some nice and sturdy manual can openers that you can use for emergency and survival uses. I also found good quality cork screws. Other good items are there also. I bought the largest amount of rice, beans, quinoa, lentils, there, and at Kroger’s, plus all those items can be put in a container and grown as starters seeds in the house then 🌱 planted in the garden. Anything like caraway seeds, yellow mustard seeds, alpha sprouts, bean sprouts, and other seed spices can be also planted and grown. I saw a video yesterday to carry food if you have to leave. The family used a clean and dry 16oz soda bottles and filled them with rice, beans, for instant and light weight dry meals to cook, (like MRE’s). I thought it was genius! Every member of the household can carry these in their camping backpacks. The small and larger soda bottles can also be used for transport. Other small containers can be used for salad dressing, 🧈 powder, sour cream powder and there are other dry powder foods that replace wet food like refrigerator sour cream. Make whatever you want with other powder food. Anthony’s Goods on Amazon has most of these in 1, 1 1/2, 2 pound plastic, light weight plastic containers. I have a lot in my pantry to make and go.

Re-visiting these videos as a "refresher course" in mid-February 2020--- having food put up looks like it will be critical this year and particularly this coming fall and winter. I can not tell you how many times our prepper pantry has saved us!!! It's so wonderful to have piece of mind that it's there. Of course you know. I only started about a year ago. We ran out of milk and my granddaughter said she'd just grab a shelf stable carton. Lol the kids feel safe knowing I've prepared for them. She drinks lactose free and thankfully I had it stocked. Lately I've reached into our pantry for items. Such a good feeling to have it. When I go to shop only preps I come home all excited 😂 Thanks for making theses helpful videos.

My favorite supermarket foods for short-term storage in my pantry or for taking on an RV trip: Spam, Vienna sausage, small cans of tuna and salmon, small cans of chicken meat, cans of sausage gravy, cans or jars of beef or chicken gravy, corned beef hash, canned whole kernel corn, instant rice, boxes of Kraft macaroni and cheese dinner, small packets of flavored instant mashed potatoes, canned three bean salad, canned sliced mushrooms, canned pickled beets, canned sauerkraut, cans of condensed cream of whatever soup, canned chunky soups, bags of dry lentils, bags of dry macaroni and spaghetti pasta, dry pasta made with veggies, small jars of mild tomato salsa, small cans of fruit, packets of instant pudding, packets of Jell-O, canisters of Tang orange flavored drink mix (day's worth of vitamin C per serving), dried herbs/seasonings (granulated garlic, onion flakes, parsley, bacon salt, Italian seasoning), powdered milk, coconut oil and olive oil and little packets of condiments from fast food/sandwich stands (mayo and pickle relish are the most desirable to have).

I've been working on developing some 100% shelf stable meals. I want to share three that we really like. Shrimp Alfredo made with canned Alfredo, canned shrimp and freeze dried peas. Another is Shepherds pie made with canned tomatoes, beef boullion, dried carrots, freeze dried peas, canned hamburger and boxed mash potatoes. The final one is chicken pot pie, made with canned chicken, chicken gravy mix, homemade pie crust, canned mixed vegetables or a combination of dried and freeze dried vegetables. Oh and I use dried onion in all of the recipes. I really can't afford the meals in a jar ingredients, but I've found that combinations of canned, dehydrated and freeze dried ingredients are affordable.

Thank you for the video, I think the emphasis on a steady pace is indeed very helpful. What really helped me to get started was to get doubles. I would make a meal plan, even if just for a day or maybe a few days and then get those meals twice. That way I knew I would be getting items that we enjoyed and would actually use. The small steps also helped me to keep the costs in check.

This KZbin is a great kick-starter for those who have not yet began their storage. We believe that three months (or more if you can) will get a family past any common emergency such as a flood, earthquake damage etc. This storage will allow you to transition into your longer term plan and long term storage when or if a more serious calamity hits. After a few weeks, most folks can fairly well asses the long term outlook and take action from there if they are properly prepared. Yet another superior video to rally those who truly care for their loved ones and surrounding community members.

My brother-in- law, who does not want to face the threat of food shortages or illness preventing him from going to the grocery store. So I need to account for his food needs as well. You are correct that food prices go up anyway. It is better to stock up through sales. I just spent $500.00 on shelf stable foods and also necessities. If there are shortages. Prices will go up, providing you can even get the food! I only bought foods we like, so it is a no lose. Now I will not have to go shopping for quite a while!

Liked and new sub. I live in Ireland. Prepping as a concept is basically taboo. Most have bought into the idea that you get your food in the shop, and shows like Doomsday Preppers have succeeded in making anyone who mentions any sort of preparedness look like a nut. I am working on bringing my own family towards a more independent lifestyle. Luckily we have moved back to live in the countryside and hopefully we will have our own garden next year as well as chickens and possibly a couple of goats and a greenhouse....the !just gets longer but I am pleased to say we have 3mths ofThe bare minimum staples. What I have learned is to watch expiration dates, and to simplify the bases, ie not too much variety in canned goods etc. This is our emergency prep, so I've started storing in mylar bags etc. When we move early next year we will be building up a 3 mth rotational pantry. Thanks for the tips

I have been developing meals that my family enjoys that use foods that have a long shelf stable life. I also have put a lot of time and research into learning how to make our favorite foods at home, how to make tortillas, ketchup, salad dressings, mayo, and more from raw basic ingredients. I think it is important to practice making meals using limited ingredients and developing skills on producing and preserving foods. Write out your recipes from digital sources. Learn how to mix your favorite seasoning blends. Try different food substitutions for your tried and true recipes so if you lack a particular item you already know what to replace it with. Basically, learn how to be diverse with your food resources. Knowledge is free and it is the one thing any and everyone can stock up on.

A couple things that a few of your subscribers may like are, homemade Italian seasoning, basic au jus sauce, and cream of everything soup. So so so basic yet unless you have an interest in making these things you think that fancy package on the shelf contains magic secret ingredients that are unavailable to average folks but not so! We have been dooped 😂 (or should I say I was) I used to buy panko and now I feel silly! And I, in my foolish youth thought peanut butter was made through some fancy milling process but it's not, it is literally mashed peanuts 🤦🏻‍♀️! I found that it is easy to get $5-$10 more a week. I live in South Florida and we get Hurricane from time to time. It is strange to see the local Walmart that doesn't have water, bread, and it was almost a month after a storm before they had spam! The thing that many say isn't good but most know that Spam has a long storage. I keep it all the time! I keep bread in the freezer. I also make up sweet tea put it in 2L drink bottles and put it in the freezer. When the power is out because of a Hurricane the frozen tea helps keep the freezer cold and when I don't have power to make tea, I have some all made and ready to drink, as soon as I have used it in the refrigerator to keep things cold. I also have about 10 2L drink bottles with water in the freezer. Helps keep your refrigerator cold but then have water to drink. After a Hurricane with no air conditioning and a lot of cleanup to do l can't say to much about having sweet tea and a lot of water to drink. I also have Gater aid! 4 or 5 water and a Gater aid or sweet tea. Can't do just sweet tea, must have lots of water. Stress dehydrates your body! Fighter pilots have 2-3 bottle of water that comes out with them if they have to put the handle to eject. They are told to drink them as soon as they are on the ground. Because the stress dehydrates you, when you are dehydrated you sometimes do think good. FACTS,

Wow, I thought I had my act together until I viewed this video. I am a new subscriber and will definitely check out both your website as well as the other KZbin videos you have. I store the majority of my everyday food items, except grains, spices, baking supplies and some packaged food, in our basement, along with our two freezers. Our basement is cool, dry and dark. I always prided myself in how I organized, rotated and kept multiples of food products on the shelves, until I went downstairs and actually looked at what was on the shelves. What I saw was multiple condiments, oils, canned soups, chicken and tuna. Coffee, corn beef hash, are few canned veggies, fruit and beans, both legumes and baked beans and spaghetti sauce. Now that might seem like a nice supply but I am missing one big thing...creating tasty meals from this and writing them down. We, too, have our favorites and I realized that we usually went to the store to get those ingredients. My everyday food stores looked like my long term, be happy you have at least that, storage. lol. What an eye opener. My plan is to write down some of our basic go to dinners and write all the ingredients. I can't tell you how many times I have to go to the grocery store to pick up hamburger or macaroni for one of our favorite meals... American chop suey. Thank you for this eye opener. The thought of looking at what I have and wondering what I am going to make is going to be a thing of the past. I will have the meals planned and like a grocery store just pull off the shelf. Thank you.

I'm trying to do the same thing. Covid really woke me up to the idea of what I was missing to make actual meals. Although I've definitely sharpened my improvising skills, even if it occasionally results in some pretty odd meals, lol.

This is a great vid. I like the math method best. Easy to get canned meat abs veg. You can mix packet flavored oatmeal with 1/2c of plain instant oats so your not getting so much sugar. I would consider dried fruit as one category. Sane with nuts abs seeds

Thank you for your video. After living thru a forest fire evacuation 3 yrs ago I have been building my GO bag/packs but now with this pandemic my goals for stocking foods has changed. We have lived thru an emergency and know the importance of being prepared so your info is helpful in planning thoroughly. I liked the suggestions about just stocking what we eat in a 2 week rotation and multiply that.

I have some things stored at my brother’s house. But he is getting it fixed up to sell. So that is not a long term solution. We have room under the bed for storage, but weight is a big factor in an RV.

You might want to consider renting a small storage unit in a place you frequent fairly often. Perhaps in a town where you have family or close friends. Freeze dried food is the lightest. Especially in Mylar bags.

Looks like you try to share prepping in your own perspective. The foundation is having stored food And water, keep storing up things while you can. Learn to can, dehydrate, grow food. This is not short term As the price increases on food and things you use daily are rising. Don’t listen to Homeland security That tells us to prepare for two weeks while they tell FEMA workers 6 months until December 2018, Now we are to have 6 months of supplies....what are FEMA workers told now?

Please don't let that stop you from gathering those food resourses. Be pro-active, call your insurance co or the local fire dept and sign up for whatever fire risk assessment programs they may have and take their recommendations. Get informed about fire extinguishers and buy some. Take the responsibility to reduce your own risk!

Trouble is all I eat is fresh meat, vegetables, fruits, etc. I never buy canned goods. So for me it's a real added expense and stuff I some actually want to eat. Plus, I'm single, so it has to be things that are one portion, so that is far harder than with two people. It's very challenging. I don't eat anything junkie, so finding all natural canned soups and such is really darned hard. I also have food intolerances that are the type where I would vomit or have severe diarrhea if I ate soy, milk or gluten. So yeah, it's a challenge. There's very little that's appetizing out there that fits my diet. Technically I eat paleo so that would be no grains whatsoever, but you just can't do that in an emergency. So I keep rice.

At this point fooling around shouldn't be an option to anyone with no supplies. If you have money make a list and go buy everything pronto. If you don't have money, sell stuff, get a second job for a while, anything to get your hands on the money to prep. No fooling around go buy everything or you will suffer.

Well said. When communist Obama got into office, that was the catalyst to prove to me this country is headed downhill. I taught myself to prep. Then when hurricane Sandy hit, I had no stress because I was already fully prepared. Now with this pandemic, I'm once again not stressed. I already had plenty of toilet paper. You would think that after so many emergencies and crisis people would wake up and become self-reliant. But the liberals have so trained the masses to be helpless and dependent on someone else rescuing them.

Hi. I go to food pantries and have food galore. I have had to put boxed food up in cleaned Tidy Cat boxes, water in 2-3 gallon jugs which I store on my deck, I have no room inside. I have rice, noodles instant mashed potatoes and beans in jars, under my bed and have even used 2 liter bottles. All with oxygen absorbers!!! Frankly I'm out of room. I'm in a mobile home and have food everywhere and don't know where else to put things except into storage, which I already pay for.

There should be an APP for this! 👏🏻 A food prep calculator APP. Where one could put in their weight(or what their healthy weight should be😉) and it would give you the calories needed per day. Then how much quantity of each food one would have to buy and store to maintain this. Is there such a thing out there???
