Thank you guys for all the good suggestions of topics to cover. This is a "Basic" video for people looking to find ore easily. Yes there are various different ways to find veins, and these gravel spots don't always work. But this is a great way to start.
@DemonChanSama7 жыл бұрын
Your method is correct, gravel is a very good indicator for ore clusters, however you will find much more ore in the desert as their is always tons stacked up with shale oil and all you need is a shovel, no pick is necessary all the way to bedrock except to mine the ore itself and you make much faster progress digging through the softer sand. Boulders are definitely one of the best all purpose mining sources, IMO boulders are extremely OP. They're much easier to find than searching for ore clusters
@jacobhoffman86106 жыл бұрын
if you dig the gravel and get nitrate you are directly above a nitrate deposit, it doesnt tell you what depth it is at but your gonna run into nitrate before you hit bedrock, those gravel pile will give you a taste of what ever is below them, it can be iron coal whatever

I love your videos but in this one I heard a lot of stuff I do not agree with. Therefore I will quote you and elaborate beneath on what I believe. "Of course I'm getting lumps of clay, more nitrate powder as I go along" - No, you are NOT getting lumps of clay as you go along. You got the clay from digging the clay that was connected to the surface - You are NOT getting nitrate powder as you go along, you are just mining out ORDINARY stone blocks which ALWAYS contain raw iron. The nitrate you got was from the gravel on the surface. "I got some Iron, I got some nitrate and I'm only this far underground" - The way you say that, makes it seem as if you got the nitrate from digging underground. Again, you did NOT get nitrate underground, you got it on the surface from the gravel you dug out. "You see there is all kinds of cool stuff that's here" - All we see underground in the video is ORDINARY stone blocks which are almost EVERYWHERE. Ordinary stone blocks which always give you stone and raw iron. "Keep on digging through this, see what kinds of awesome stuff I can find, but so far I seem to be finding some pretty decent supplies and stuff" - I repeat, you were mining out ordinary stone blocks. "Let's see what this last one gives me here" - It's not going to give you something at random. You 100% GUARANTEED always get stone and raw iron from those stone blocks. "got some more lumps of clay" - You did NOT get clay underground, you got it from the clay connected to the surface. Please don't get angry with me. I used caps lock to really drive home what I am trying to explain. I don't want to sound rude or disrespect you, I watch all of your videos and really enjoy watching them. I usually don't even comment, but this time I had to.

You're off in your thought process for the gravel. The ore you get at the end of a gravel block is what ore blocks are connected to the gravel below ground. You don't dig straight down at the gravel, instead you follow the gravel and it will lead you to that ore. The only time you have to go thru regular stone is once you get to the ore and you're looking to make sure you haven't missed any when you dig it out. Sometimes when you're digging out the ore you'll find more gravel that leads deeper to another vein. Overall following the gravel isn't too great. The veins that it leads to are generally small and not worth the time when compared to the surface boulders but sometimes there is a good sized vein which then makes it worth the effort to find it.
@capp007 жыл бұрын
I removed the "ore vein" part from the title. I never said in the video that this was a 100% given way to find an underground vein. I said it is a good start to finding them. So I removed it from the title so as to not confuse anyone.
@capp007 жыл бұрын
But also, in the video description and in the top-pinned comment, I said it wasn't a guaranteed way to find a vein, just a good start and a good way to find ore.
@twitchymcnutz10957 жыл бұрын
But it is guaranteed. If you follow the gravel as it winds it's way down you will find the ore. If you only dig straight down you then run the chance of not finding any ore. That's what I meant by follow the gravel. If the gravel goes down 3 blocks then turns left for 5 blocks before going down again you have to follow it to find the ore. Pretend the gravel is the yellow brick road, if you don't follow the road you'll never get to the Emerald City. ;)
@robert899217 жыл бұрын
Twitchy McNutz but this is only true for A16 and not A15 correct? I, unfortunately, am still A15 on console and haven't noticed any gravel trails that you mentioned. Unless I'm an idiot or it's not available in A15. I will start looking a little better now though just in case.
@twitchymcnutz10957 жыл бұрын
If memory serves me correctly A15 is when the gravel was introduced as a way to find the ore underground. It was harder to spot the gravel on the ground in A15.
@josephmatthews76986 жыл бұрын
To put it simply. If you find gravel on the ground you will get stone, sand and a third ore. Whatever that third ore is means if you dig straight down you will find a vein of that ore. My favorite mine is located West of the cell tower and corn farm along the road into the southern hill that follows the road approximately 100 blocks away from the cell tower. The mine contains a good chunk of iron, coal and nitrate powder all in one area. Just follow that hill scooping gravel until you find coal then dig into the hill from the road and voila your nitrate coal and iron worries are over.

@capp007 жыл бұрын
In the game, there are "large" veins, and "Small" veins. The Large veins are found in cave walls, which only spawn in on random generated worlds. The small veins are small collections of ore, found in various parts of the game. In this video, I started digging after finding Nitrate (an ore). Made it down about 6 blocks before I ran into a grouping of iron ore and even some coal in a grouping. This is a "small" vein.
@CreylinMcC7 жыл бұрын
After you get through the dirt section (it can actually be dirt, gravel, or clay) of forest ground, you hit common stone. From common stone, you will ALWAYS get stone and iron ore. It's not a vein. That's what you always get. It's the same if you mine those larger rock formations on the surface (not the boulders). When you mine common stone or the larger rock formations, you get a higher stone to iron ore ration. When you mine the boulders, your ratio of stone to iron ore changes, and you get more iron and less stone (compared to common stone) and some other resources (nitrate, coal, lead). This changes in a biome like the desert. It doesn't have a dirt layer followed by a common stone layer. It's either sand, gravel (sand and stone mixed), or clay (only close to the surface), and continues all the way to bedroom unless you hit a pure vein of something. I haven't dug to bedrock in all the biomes. Just the forest, desert, and prairie (which has a common stone layer after a dirt/gravel/clay layer like the forest biome). I love my underground bases. Desert is much better for digging because of the lack of a common stone layer. So much easier... The trick with the gravel is, when you break the block and you get that random resource (nitrate, coal, shale, lead, whatever), that means there's a pure vein somewhere below that block. If you dig straight down, you'll find it, and you can follow it in whatever direction it goes. Once I had to dig nearly to bedrock to find it, but for me, it's always been there, somewhere. By pure vein, I mean you break up the block, and get nothing but that resource. Edit: Just realized I kept saying "tin" instead of "lead". Whenever I strike the lead nodes, I think "tin" because of the sound. Can't seem to get my head corrected.

I've found that the mine at S1236 E702 is a great source for mining and a decent base that is pretty ez to protect. Also i have turned the northern cave in the forest biome between snow and high desert into a giant pit mine. Caves seem to be the greatest concentrations so far. This is of course all on the navezgane map

Ordinary rock, with a small bit of iron, is 500 'hardness'. Soft 200 gravel mixture contains sand. It is better dug with a shovel than a pick. It nearly always leads to either 400 ore blocks (nitrate, charcoal, lead) or 1000 pure iron blocks.
@FlyingPigMD6 жыл бұрын
Dig tunnels in the desert. I’m talking hit bed rock and then expand side ways. You don’t need a pick axe and a decent shovel will give you sand and stone for cement. Once your shovels hits ore, switch to pick axe. You’ll get shale, raw iron, nitrate, led, and rare metals sometimes. I play on PS4 so I don’t know what version it is. Supposedly it’s 1.18 on console.

Im using alpha 16.3 but this isn´t changed from a while, that extra ore when you dig isn´t random at all, it tells you what kind of ore its actually surrounded by that gravel. For example if you found an iron deposit, all gravel around it gives you 1 iron ore, but if you dig beneath iron deposit and maybe you found a lead deposit, then gravel will give you 1 lead ore instead. It tells you what ore its surrounded by that gravel

You can easily tell where there is clay by firstly looking on the map for dark "patches". Mark it off with a waypoint and go check it out. The ground should be green-ish in color. I dug out a small patch on my game and got over 14000 lumps of clay. Iron ore veins tend to be brown/rust color and lead is blue-ish.

NOT first again, but as always I enjoyed your video and learned some things about the surface indicators, gravel, sand, etc. Keep up the good work on the informative and entertaining videos. Somewhere in the comments was one re: large veins of ore. My mine is beneath my base in the Pine Forest. Went straight down about 15 or so blocks, (before I knew about the chance of hitting a cave), then branched out in the four cardinal directions and I hit iron veins and a nitrite vein that so far has yielded about 6 thousand nitrite. I have not totally mined out the nitrite since I built a forge and cement mixer in the small room I carved out before I realized the extent of the nitrite vein. This is in 16.3 Navezgame map. Also using an Auger that increases the yield. I realize this does not come under the heading of "Finding ore" but after reading the comments I thought it would fit. Our thanks again to you for taking the time making and narrating these videos. I ALWAYS enjoy them and always learn something new :D

1 - It appears you found no ore veins at all. This "result" can be achieved by digging anywhere. 2 - Time lapses of grinding parts would be a nice touch, lets people see the results directly and provide a brief but amusing fast forward clip that you could pause or slow if anything notable comes along.

I usually go to one of the pre-made caves and the dig in the opposite direction of the cave door. This lets you start a a lower elevation than starting on the surface. It is also much easier to dig in the desert (sandstone iirc) or in the snow.

I'm playing the latest pc version and up to day 71 or so. I have almost a ring around a house I've toughened up with rebar/concrete, horizontal walkway bars around the edge, an auto-shotgun defending front and back vault doors and the 4 sides of blades are powered by a separate battery bank each - all linked into the same fuel generator which helps to rebuild the battery damage. The last horde was a bit iffy, the ferals sometimes run through the ring of blades and almost constantly my building is being attacked. I've unlocked every tool, every weapon, can build almost anything, got a minibike, some decent armor, iron isn't a problem, coal is all over the place, the lead on the surface seems to be almost everywhere but very little potassium nitrate. When I've seen an odd pile in the snow, I've mined straight down - often to bedrock and I've found nothing, just the usual lots of stone, a bit of sand and soil and small amounts of iron all the way to the bottom. ( occasionally I hit a few iron patches but I mine it out in 10 seconds with my auger ). Fuel isn't a problem, it potassium nitrate. I cannot get it anywhere apart from the surface boulders and 1 in every 50 or so surface deposits. I expected it to be in the snow biome, but much like when I mine anywhere and expect to see certain ores, I have the same problem, I find nothing. No pockets, not like the previous build. I am also playing on a random gen map and there is an absolute shitload of very large lakes. A nightmare to navigate. Advice please?

Can you test what's better mining on the ground at these good gravel spots or running around only mining boulders. I saw somewhere that boulders were the best way to mine for resources.
@Valrin72367 жыл бұрын
As Rosefinity pointed out the rock will always give you stone and iron. The gravel on the surface will tell you what is below you. If you find gravel that gives you nitrate when you dig it up then that patch of gravel will lead you to a vein of nitrate. If the gravel gives you iron then that patch of gravel will lead to an iron vein. Shovel up the gravel and follow it around to find the vein that you are looking for. For nitrate specifically the only reliable source I've found is the boulders on the surface. Search for the clay patches on the map (dark brown areas) and you will find lots of boulders. Winter zone is best. Larger patches and higher concentration of boulders. With good miner69er skill and a good steel pick axe you can take out a boulder in 3 hits.

Digging down from a patch of gravel is the best way to find Iron ore veins. I find that they are anywhere from 5 to 12 blocks down, and will have an orangish color.
@capp007 жыл бұрын
That's what I was trying to convey in the video. Apparently some people think I was saying something different.
@fireblade_ct7 жыл бұрын
If I understood the patch notes and some videos correct you can find the ores which the gravel spots on the surface gives you under this point. So the gravel should be connected to a bigger source of the ore below. I tested it a few times and in my cases it worked good. So if i found potassium in the gravel on the surface I followed the gravel to the stone and under the stone I found some potassium.
@capp007 жыл бұрын
Yup. It's not a guarantee, but a good rule of thumb to look for.
@FrankMcCauley7 жыл бұрын
The caves usually have stalactites of nitrate. The only other way is the white outcroppings on the surface to find a big quantity. The different biomes seem to have their own concentration of elements. For example, the desert biome (where the saguaro cactus is) is where you will find iron and shale veins. As for dropping into a cave, you'd have to be pretty darn unlucky as they are so few and far between.

I like your voice and the video is good :D The information you are providing is not correct, you can check the wiki page for mining. Those are a way better resource in early game.

He was close. When you dig out gravel anywhere in the world and it comes up with an extra ore (iron, nitrate, coal, lead or oil shale), that area of gravel is touching an ore vein of that type. So follow the gravel and you will see at least one, sometimes a bunch, of ores of the type found in the gravel. So where he started digging, somewhere around there was a nitrate vein. Could be to the side and down a little, but always touching the gravel.

My first long cave visit was 18 hours start to finish. Nor did I see it all. Cartography of that cave found under NM is now at +40 miles. Until 2018 I was in an organization that had +100 miles of completed underground cartography in KY. Residents of Alberta while at home in chairs looking at Google Earth found an unexplored cave entry in BC. They used cartography while exploring it. That proved they found the deepest known cave in N. America. I now reside within day travel of it. Coincidence? I can recommend underground kayaking (seen in KZbin video as Snail Shell Cave). My dig sites for cave entry occur at sinkholes. Using fall-arrest systems as collapse into an abyss has happened. NASA has told people like myself that what we do has future application in exploration of moons and planets. NASA has assisted us in past discovery of new minerals, troglodytes, etc. None of my +5,000 contacts and related data has entered the internet. I have hard copy storage files and rotary telephone usage to deter wireless prowling. I prefer to do... what other people can't.

The problem is, I do all this youtube stuff part time, after my wife and son have gone to bed, late in the evenings, and only a couple days out of the week. So the window of time I'd have to play is very small and I never know for sure when it will happen. Definitely not far enough in advance to get subs in there. When I do get a chance, it's always a spur of the moment type thing. I'm still trying to find a way to make it happen, but as of now, I don't know if I can realistically make it happen. :)

Capp00 totally understand. Late night is when I do my gaming also. My 6 and 8 year olds are always dad this and that when they are awake.

Yup. I don't game at all when my son or my wife is awake, except maybe a little on the weekends if they are entertaining themselves. But the rest of the week, I am mostly AFK until they go to bed.

Normally I get the same Iron ore when I dig alpha 16 got different

I hate alpha 16 mining, true alpha 15 mining was kinda like super easy but at least I could do mining and know that I'll eventually hit something, I've had five different occurrences where I never found nitrate or coal so screw this new mining

Awwww that video hurts :o

i like most of your videos but this one is just u digging in the ground, u didnt find any veins. just hitting the rocks that spawn on top of the world give way more resources

And you didn't even find any actual ore in this? Like literal ore veins
@capp007 жыл бұрын
I found Nitrate in the first place I even dug. First 2 places I dug. The hole I dug down to, I ran into a good supply of iron ore.

Capp00 I've tried a few times and 2/3 of the times I reached bedrock
@IslarfPokemon7 жыл бұрын
Capp00 the 1 time I only found coal. Which is not useful at all. Especially without nitrate
@capp007 жыл бұрын
That is unfortunate. I apparently had way better luck than you did :)
@quinndamour31617 жыл бұрын
Capp00 but you didn't find a good supply of iron... you can get that amount from any stone layer. 2 iron and 25-30 rock? If you hit iron or nitrate veins or a"good supply" you would have gotten just that resource not a combination. . In your video you're telling people you're getting all this from just rock. . Sure you dug up two nitrate but you didn't show them that it leads to the nitrate. . Instead you just dig rock and say you're getting clay and lots of iron and rock. When that is literally the least efficient way to mine.
@renano957 жыл бұрын
This one didn't really help find ore since all underground rock givbes raw iron
