When you mentioned nine connections, does that break down into one input and eight outputs? It might be helpful to see an example using a switch, a relay, or a light. You might be able to put together a manifold using regular switches, so that you have eight different zones that can all be switched off with one central switch between them and the electrical source (i.e., generator). Is there a way to create backup power? +Assume that you have two gas powered generators, G1 and G2. +Place down G1 and G2. +Wire up G1 to G2 (if it is possible). +Wire up the base from G2. If G2 runs out of gas, will G1 be able to take over and pass its electrical output through G2 like a relay? Or, will both generators run out of gas at the same time if they are functioning at the same time?
@nstorm24155 жыл бұрын
you cant connect 2 generators together, but you can connect a battery bank to the generator and when it runs out of gas the battery bank will start sending energy. I prefer to use solar banks and then connect the battery to it and use it to power the lights and some external traps, that way i dont use gas untill horde night when i power all the traps.
@Vedui425 жыл бұрын
I'll see if I can cover that. Sadly only 1 power input works, though you can chain a battery to the generator for temporary power output (and battery banks with 6 q6 batteries last a fair while, tho total power output isn't super high :)
@michelguenette89985 жыл бұрын
@@Vedui42 I knew from watching some other videos that a battery bank could be inserted into the chain. I just was not sure about stringing together two more gas generators. Thank you to you and Nick Serrano for answering the question. A design that I have thought about but cannot implement (because I do not have the game) is solar bank, battery bank, timer relay, and switch. The solar bank recharges the battery bank during the day. The timer relay cuts off power during the day to every electrical device that is connected downstream. The extra switch is there to act like the main breaker in an electrical panel. Instead of messing with beginning and ending times in the relay, you can flick on/off the power with a single mouse click. This would be helpful when you are building and testing the connections. No need to drain the power by too much because you have all the lights on during the day, like in real life. I am looking forward to your other videos about electricity.

Hey Vedui, I feel we need a tutorial on the video options as well. People keep complaining about low fps in the forums over and over again, and there's a lot of newcomers who don't really know how to set up the game for proper fps. I mean, it's running flawlessly even on my 3 year old potatoe, so... 😂 I'm thinking of mentioning the most demanding stuff like reflecting shadows, tree quality, reflections, motion blur, turning off the ingame voice chat and such. Also about telling people about the (UN)optimizing behavior of nvidia experience for this game! And telling people of the advantages of turning on vsync. This might help some with overheating issues, wich I also often read about, because theire systems are running at full throttle all the time, bringing out as many fps as possible. Just an idea! Have a nice day Sir!

Can be done! Search for my tips and tricks electricity guide where I cover how to (I might do in the advanced one too, can't recall). 7DTD is great! Gas is actually very abundant, as you get late game it's super easy to mine out. I spent like 10 mins on my stream yesterday on my MP server, or maybe 15 mins, and got 25k oil shale ... that's 250k gas :P Solar is nice but super expensive!

What about open/exit signs? Work lights? Industrial lights? No cables attach to them. Which is better, gas generator or lead battery?
@Vedui422 жыл бұрын
Those lights do not exist in vanilla for you to use. It's why I made my mod Expanded Deco (www.nexusmods.com/7daystodie/mods/607?tab=description) ... which allows you to craft and use a bunch more of the lights...as well as other decorative blocks. It's server side xml only, so uses all existing assets, adding ways to craft and connect electricity :) So generally gas generator is the way to go, battery bank is best if you use solar power --> battery bank --> circuit :)

Does the generator bank use fuel even if nothing is drawing power? For example, if you have lights set to a timer relay so they only come on at night, will the generator still be burning fuel during the day when the lights are off?
@Vedui424 жыл бұрын
I would say "It should not", but that's a truth modified by bugs. In previous versions, things turned off did not draw power, thus did not use fuel. However I noticed in A19, I turned stuff off and some were still pulling power from the generator and using fuel. But it's not supposed to. :) Switches are good way to prevent excessive fuel draw, such as the timer relax as it will ensure it's only "on" during dark hours :)

@Vedui424 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom Biocca! In a nutshell, it was a different company (Telltale) who made/ported the game to console, that people bought. It was not The Fun Pimps. However Telltale went bankrupt, and that's it, there is no one left to make the update for current console. The company which sold the game, is gone. Now TFP have said they are looking at making a console port themselves once the game is "completed", for next gen console (ie, ps5+), however that's likely a long way off.

They need to rework the wiring system. Who wants to see a labyrinth of wires strung out all over their base? You need to model floors/walls 3 blocks thick and run wires in between to hide them. They should just make it so you use any block type as your wire. As long as the power source/powered item are connected by blocks it will work.
@Vedui424 жыл бұрын
Yep! I really think they should go for a "radius" thing from the generator, with repeaters or something connected to each other. Ie, a repeater can transmit to anything within 15 blocks, including a chained repeater. Then do away with the annoying wiring. Still, that's why I put in my wireless power box, that solves the problem by simply not having an outgoing wire. Still, should be in vanilla :)

I'd have rather they went the Fallout 4 route with the power thing like a proximity junction box that gives power to a certain area of the map. My home base looks ridiculous with multiple generators and loads of wires everywhere
@Vedui423 жыл бұрын
I agree :) I've been saying the same thing, give the generators a range, let us select recipient devices, and an extender ... problem solved ;)

Is this just a PC thing
@Vedui425 жыл бұрын
Hi. I'm afraid so. Console (before they stopped updating) went to sort of alpha 15 and a half, but electricity was in A16... I suspect they were working on it to some degree but never got that far to release a patch.
