Tony Enamel was a genuine news paper article in the 70's in a busy part of Sydney Australia known as "The Cross". The article headlined "Tony Enamel, a sensitive Banjo player from the Cross" was in fact about the World renowned Guitarist Tommy Emmanuel, and it still confounds me that in this day and age with word processors that have auto spell check that Journalists still have this problem. Tony Enamel is still a family in-joke to this day for the older members of the family. Viewers feel honoured you were let in on this joke.

Cool post, the net night in Grants Pass I got to meet these true gents, great humor. Tommy played to two blind friends of mine back stage and signed my GS Mini after playing it... I really appreciate good people. There is nothing wrong with being good and it is not cool to not be good... :-)

Just curious: Why doesn't Jerry just hold that Dobro guitar just like a normal guitar, or just play a slide guitar if wants to lay it flat like that?

Jerry plays a square neck dobro in this video. The neck is very thick to support the extra tension that comes from raising the strings pretty high off the fretboard - like 3/8 or 1/2 inch. It's not really possible to hold and play a square neck dobro like a regular guitar with your thumb on the back of the neck. The neck is just too thick and the strings are raised too far from the fretboard.

@@terminusest9427 I'm not trying to argue here but he's not using his thumb when he's laying it flat which means he can do the same when he's holding it like a regular guitar, can't he? Edit: Well maybe he can but it will be too difficult to get the same results; and as you pointed out, it's designed to be played that the way he plays it.

@@weslenne352 Jerry is using a steel bar in his left hand. He moves it on the strings to shorten the strings instead of pressing against the frets like you would with a regular guitar. It doesn't really work to use that steel bar unless the guitar is laid across your lap like a steel guitar or in this case a square neck resonator guitar, AKA Dobro. It's a completely different technique from playing slide guitar with a glass or Steel tube on your finger. The steel bar he's playing with is just a solid chunk of metal.
