I was never a fan of Tommy Emmanuel, not because I did not recognize that he is a monster virtuoso who has fantastic energy, a mercurial genius who can traverse a range of styles and sensibilities that place him in a class by himself and that he is tachnically a master on many levels but there is something about his style that leaves me flat, something too plainspoken, with absolutely no mystery. Judging by his joyousness when performing, his absolute respect for the musicians with whom he plays and the true humility and kindness he expresses in every interview, I would be willing to bet that he is a a great person off stage as well as on. I judge music on travelling time, which is where the music carries me on a deeper spiritual level and while I was always deeply impressed by Tommy's fantastic abilities, I was never moved by his music. I could name dozens of musicians I love who don't have a fraction of Tommy's skill, however, that said, this duet ia sbsolutely glorious.
