Dishonourable mention for Rai Vloet - Dutch striker who during his time at Heracles Almelo killed a 4 year old boy in a drunk driving incident. He was driving 203 km/h, lied to his club about the conditions surrounding the incident and has since taken refuge at FK Ural.

@@010Jordi For that you have to understand the legal system. It's not a system of revenge. It's a system that weighs a lot of factors. Justice for the victims is only 1 of them. Others are the risk of sending the guilty party back in society, the intent of the crime etc. etc.

It's crazy how footballers (and other rich people) can literally get away with killing someone (or worse) just by flopping some money around. Especially the Marcos Alonso case is just insane, no prison sentence at all just because he had money. If he was an average person he'd be in prison for quite some time. Also, I had no idea about the Kluivert thing even though I'm Dutch. Thanks for the informative video Alfie!

It is my understanding that it sadly happened in the early hours of the morning. As fans, had very mixed and heated views at OUFC. Somebody on the North Stand would shout 'murder' every time he took a goal kick. The guy looked dead on the outside assuming so on inside. Yet, could still function as a keeper. Never got emotional with any save or goal. Never said a word to his backline for the 4 months there.

Bruno's case was really huge here in Brazil. I was 7 years old at the time of the crime and I remember that it was all over the news and it was much talked about even among my classmates at the time which, well, wasn't a very kid-friendly subject. It unfortunately is one of the most famous cases of femicide here in Brazil and its repercussion even helped the creation of the femicide law a couple of years later. But justice here completely sucks, especially if you have money, no wonder he's free now and even played for some (smaller, but still) clubs. I hope this monster has the worst life possible

Such lightweight sentences for many of them - Luke McCormick killed 2 young boys because he CHOSE to drink under the influence of alcohol and CHOSE to drive too fast and CHOSE to drive without insurance and those poor boys and their family suffer as a result. The fact he spent less than 4 years in jail - 2 years for each young life he took - is frankly an insult to Arron and Ben.

For me the drink driving cases should be classed as Murder. You are knowingly endangering the lives of other by driving pissed, not only that they usually drive like utter morons as well. I remember the McCormick one very well. As a father of two young boys, it would sicken me to see he got off so lightly and was given a chance to return to Plymouth. Our justice system generally lets people off lightly but you can't help think that footballers and generally wealthy or powerful people to get much lighter punishments.

Not necessarily but I don't entirely disagree with you. Well it maybe different in the UK but in the Netherlands u have murder, where u planned and prepared to kill someone, "doodslag" where u purposely killed someone but did not plan it and death by guilt, where someone died because of u but u didn't mean to kill the other person but still did, drunk driving (almost) never falls into the murder category here

A video on Joey Barton would be good, I think. The word 'man' is one I refuse to use for that individual - it is not worthy of such a description. The fact that it is allowed to manage a League One club, as a role model for the young children of Bristol...absolute madness.

In Brazil there's also the case of Edmundo, who in 1995 killed 3 people in a car crash. He went on to play for several teams and today he's even a TV sports commentator. Theres literally two lines about it on his wikipedia page, and most people treat it like nothing happened.

@HITC Sevens On Kluivert his Dutch Wikipedia it states what happened. It did propably keep him at Ajax for a season longer. Although he did not play much in the 96/97 season. A season that was a dreadfull one where Ajax only reached the semi final of the CL league, but only became 5th overall in the Dutch League and ending van Gaals reign on somewhat of a downer.

I hear ‘Estonian goalies’ and instantly think of Mart Poom, (I’m a Derby fan) and remember the day he scored the winning goal against us at Pride Park, and the whole ground stood up and applauded him. Was one of those little moments in football that even as a fan of the losing team, was just perfect. A Derby hero.

There's lots more, sadly, many in South America for example. Johnny Herrera, winner of the Sudamericana and Copa América, former Chilean International, and a club legend for a club I support, was a renowned goalkeeper. He was also the killer of a young woman in a traffic accident produced by his drunk driving in 2009. He settled off court for just 25 thousand dollars. He was caught drunk driving again in 2012, and the case was re opened, and he was found guilty and charged with 5 weeks of prison and lost his licence to drive for two years. That's all. His career was largely unaffected, and he continued to play until recently, when he retired and became a pundit.

And my inquiry is not out of animosity, yet pure curiosity. Because I have always looked up to this footballer. One of my favorites of all time. Legend. That why I watch your videos. Not that I will judge him regardless if he helped the family of that man he killed. But damn! Jmo. Thank you again. My wife is battling cancer and your videos(and football period) has kept me sane. A recent incident that is similar is with a Mexican Youth player that had a high potential to be world class. Joao Maleck killed a newlywed couple (1 day as a married couple) while under the influence in 2019. He only served a bit of jail time. He was playing in Spain (Sevilla) at the time of the incident and now is playing in a lower division in Mexico. Another incident was Charlie Davies in 2009. He missed out on the 2010 World Cup. Although he was not driving, he broke curfew as the USMNT was getting ready to play Costa Rica in a WCQ in Washington DC and the SUV he was in, lost control and crashed. One of the passengers passed away. He suffered some injuries that took some time to heal up. He was playing in France at the time (Sochaux) and was not cleared by the club when the World Cup came around.

@ianz9916

It can sometimes go the other way, especially leading up to Christmas. Sports stars can get harsher punishments to send out a message. That's wrong too, although, in Tony Adams case, it was probably the best thing that ever happened to him. He was convicted of drunk driving after crashing into a wall. As a first offence it was surprising that he got a four month prison sentence considering there was nobody injured but the authorities needed a poster boy to highlight their anti drink driving campaign.
