Your videos make me see how a fashion designer is close to my life and open the door to the world of design by showing how a designer sees this world. So much thanks.

I stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago and have been following it/you ever since. I have to say, you are already one of my favorite fashion channels. I recently saw the documentary "The True Cost" (definitely a must see for everyone, even if not involved in the fashion industry. I am sure you've seen it) and realized how tired I am of the endless hauls and piles of new clothes here on You Tube. Keep up the great work, teaching people what real sustainable fashion is! Greetings from Cologne

I really like "How to Dress for Success" by Edith Head (1967), and "Orchids on Your Budget: Or Live Smartly on What You Have", by Marjorie Hillis (1937), which has a great chapter on capsule wardrobing before capsule wardrobes was a thing. I find them very inspiring, even though I dress in modern clothes.

I am brand new to your channel, but stumbled upon it, and am delighted! I looked at the books you were showing, and over the years, I had constructed such myself. Not nearly as nice. Because I couldn't find the one book that had the things that I wanted. I photocopied many books and magazines, and put the pages together myself so that I had it for reference. I absolutely delighted in what you showed us!

A thousand thanks for the book choice especially the fashionpedia and the art of manipulating fabric.. It's exactly what i am searching for.. Thank you!! Good luck
@blackkingdomraminta7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Justine! Thank you for the suggestions, I now really want the Fashionpedia!:D And I must agree on the Fabric Manipulation book - it's a great recource for inspiration. I also have a few on my own suggestions, like a a book called Clothing Technology by a German publisher Lehrmittel. It is not an easy book and quite "dry", however, for a designer working in the industry it's a must! It has everything anyone could think of: a thorough descriptions of fibers (it even describes burning tests for each one!), fabrics (thoroughly explained how they are woven, knitted, different types of knits and wovens and everything is illustrated), types of seams with standard markings, not to mention sewing machines, dyeing pocesses, illustrated dictionary of clothing, a little bit of history of fashion...basically anything! Another one I would highly recommend is Fabric for Fashion by a publisher Laurence King. It is great for those still learning about different fabrics because you can actually touch them as the book has swatches in it.
@justineleconte7 жыл бұрын
+Raminta Razgutė I own the book named "clothing technology" but it's in German so I didn't want to recommend it here - didn't think it might also exist in English 😅. Definitely a good one for the industry.

I went to the Prada/Schiaparelli exhibit when it first came out to the MET a few years ago, and than they were selling the book in the MET clearence store for only five dolllars when I went again a few weeks ago! If you live in the area, the MET clearence store (which is a huge room under the Egyptian wing), sells old art books from one dollar on.

It's about color types, building capsule wardrobes, finding your style, make your appearance a statement... Even 30 years later it is still up to date because it's a classic! But I'm not very fond of their actual books since they're breaking their own guidelines just to please everyone...
