The fact that Japanese bathtubs are deeper is something I noticed that makes a big difference. When you sit in a North American bath that are put into apartments you get cold because you can't fully submerge your body.

As a European who visited the States, I had exactly this thought. And I am a tiny human. I ended up either with my legs stretched out leaning on the wall next to the tub, so that my upper body could be submerged....or sitting upright to soak my lower half😅. Having boobs didn't help.😂

I noticed that too! I LOVE baths but only when the tub is deep and a good sized tub is hard to find in America unless you own a big house or have a customized bathroom. It’s almost never a thing in apartments which is super sad

@@annai5224 I've seen these! They sound really awesome. Great solution for people who want a deep bath on a limited budget with space restrictions. The house I live in was previously owned by an elderly woman, and it has a walk-in tub. The tub has a little bench for sitting and then a deeper foot area. I can sit in the foot area and have water up to my chin. It's really lovely. If I didn't have that option, what you're describing would probably be my second choice. Having a deep bath is just a game changer in terms of managing tension and overall wellbeing.

If everyone becomes western these beautiful practices will disappear!

Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. And terrorists (puppets of the Antichrist) who misinterpret verses, out of ignorance and political motivations, and take them out of historical context (just like radical atheists do by the way), don't help either. Thank you very much for your time. Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them). Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI). Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy. Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI). Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad). Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning! Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures. As a region which was deeply influenced by the Romans in the past, we also have a culture of taking baths, warm and cold. Our food is also known to be very healthy, based on fresh, local vegetables and fish. To this day, you will see older people exercise everyday, too. We aren’t as particular with cleanliness though! 0:49 *First, the habit of taking a bath daily.* In Japan, there are more than 3000 hot spring areas. Public baths are everywhere in the city, and bathtubs are basically installed in every house. Japanese people love taking baths, even the monkeys too. And I also love it too, and basically I always enjoy lounging in the bath. I think this habit of taking a bath is a big reason why Japanese people can stay physically healthy. I think there are three main reasons. The *first* is that it warms your body, which has the effect of helping your muscles relax. *Second*, water pressure within the bath helps improve metabolism as well as excretes toxins within the body. *Thirdly*, because being in water allows your body to float, the pressure on bones and muscles are reduced, which helps to relieve back pain and stiff shoulders. When I lived in Canada and Australia, I only showered. So I know that even taking a shower will warm and refresh your body. But after all, I feel that when I take a bath, my body is more warm, refreshed and I feel less tired after that. Japan has an abundance of water, so I can take a bath every day, but in many countries it may be difficult to take a bath every day. But if you are able to, and if you are interested in it, please give it a try. 2:26 *Second, the habit of cleaning.* Japanese people love cleaning. Or rather, it's become a habit. I think it depends on the person, but basically I clean my house every day. If we have time, I also clean my neighborhood and public areas. Even Japanese soccer fans took their trash home after the world cup match. I think the reason why Japanese people clean so much is because it connects to an important concept of Shintoism, which is cleanliness. Another reason may be because we have been cleaning since early childhood at school. This cleaning habit keeps the environment around you clean and hygienic. I think this hygienic environment is one of the reasons why Japanese people can live a healthy lifestyle. 3:19 *Third, the habit of special daily exercise.* Have you ever heard the word radio calisthenics? This is a common exercise you can see in the morning in Japan. It’s called Rajio Taiso, which is a composition of many stretches and movements you do with a song. It seems that it is said to be "one of the reasons why Japan is considered to be a country of longevity" from overseas. Originally it was made in 1928 to improve the health of Japanese people. When I actually do the sequence, it looks like this. It's pretty tiring if you do it seriously. As many as 13 types of exercises are combined within 3 minutes and 13 seconds. Since it moves the body continuously , it not only has a cardio-like effect, but also has the effect of stretching like doing yoga. Also, because it is easy to do, many age groups can enjoy it, from children to the elderly. By the way, my workplace in Canada also adopted this routine every morning. 4:34 *Fourth, the habit of getting up early.* Here is an interesting story about Japanese people around 1900, which is written by Lafcadio Hearn from the United States, who was an English teacher in Japan. One morning, before the sun rose, I heard a sound near my house. I wondered what it was, and when I looked outside, the villagers were chatting and gargling, washing their faces using dich water. I was wondering what these people were doing, and as soon as the sun rose from the mountain, they all turned to the sun. They said, " Thank you for always looking over us" and prayed with a clap of their hands. Until about 100 years ago, Japanese people used to get up early every morning and worship the sun. Now, this habit only remains during the New Year, but the old Japanese used to do that every day. The reason for worshiping the sun is that in Shintoism, the sun is the supreme deity of Japan. Unfortunately, young people today don’t have such a habit, but many of the older generations still get up early and some people continue this habit. By getting up early, exposed to the morning sun, your natural clock will reset and be in tune with the day's energy. 5:58 *Fifth, the habit of eating Japanese food.* The reason why Japanese food is healthy is that it is said to be a healthy diet with a good nutritional balance. For one reason, it was registered as a healthy practice by UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013. A Japanese meal is usually composed of one soup and three side dishes. Rice, the main dish, is high in carbohydrates. Fish or soy products are high in protein. You can get vitamins and minerals from simmered and pickled vegetables. In addition, fermented foods such as miso and natto will improve intestinal digestion. In this way, Japanese food is a well-balanced and healthy diet, so you can keep your body youthful and healthy. I love eating Japanese food. It's delicious and you can eat various kinds of colorful ingredients, so it's very fun to eat. But honestly, I'm not good at making it. This is because there are many products and seasonings you need to prepare, and it takes a lot of time and effort. So, if you are good at cooking, please give it a try and make some Japanese food. 7:22 *Sixth, the habit of drinking matcha.* In modern Japan, not so many people usually drink matcha, but Japan has a habit of drinking matcha. The reason why matcha is healthy is that matcha contains an abundant amount of nutrients. For example, it is rich in minerals such as calcium and dietary fibers. It also contains many antioxidants such as catechins. Moreover, since matcha is made from tea leaves itself, it contains several times more nutrients than ordinary tea. That's why I always drink matcha every morning. I feel that drinking matcha every morning not only makes me healthier, but also makes me feel relaxed while also boosting my work performance. By the way, my great-grandmother also drank matcha every morning. I don't know if it was actually because of the matcha, but my grandma lived healthy until she was nearly 100 years old. 8:26 *Seventh, the habit of hiking mountains.* There are many mountains in Japan, and many people make it a habit to climb those mountains. I think hiking is also one of the reasons why Japanese people are healthy. This is because it strengthens your legs and feet, so your body does not weaken. In fact, my grandpa went up the mountain almost every week. Even when he was over 70, he was on his feet all the time and worked in the fields every day. He lived healthy until he was about 80 years old. I leave these type of comments because they help me as a neurodivergent person to understand the video better, and I hope to help more people like me. What did you think of these habits? Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement. It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them. (19-22 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).. Salam (Peace) ------

As an American from the south, it is not much different. As we all know our food is known to be unhealthy, processed, and over abundant, but in my family we had our garden as do alot of rural people in south and traded with each other. My grandma got up 4:00 in the morning and did stretches. She sewed and cleaned the house every day as well as attending her garden. She passed in Jan just before her 99th peacefully in her sleep 💔❤️

This is an important reminder, to recognize that really traditional American food is connected to gardening, small farm stands and shops. How many of our grandmas canned fruits and vegetables? Think of the Victory Gardens in WW2. Then it all became done by factories who make cheap, processed, convenience food. And so many of us are now unhealthy.

Ever since I moved to the UK there are many things that I’ve stopped doing such as getting up early, eating a balanced diet, and spending time outdoors doing all sorts of activities. The weather here is unfortunately depressing for someone who comes from hot sunny places and organic food isn’t very accessible and abundant here. The country isn’t doing well in promoting a healthy lifestyle for its citizens. Sometimes where you live will definitely impact your lifestyle, whether in a good way or bad way. Despite that this video motivated me to start making more efforts. I’m sure my body and mind will thank me in the future. I send you a hug 🤗 all the way from Scotland.

I’m Italian and I’ve been living in the UK for almost two decades. I perfectly know what you mean… the weather is horrendous and you can’t do anything about it. As for the food… the quality is terrible especially now when it’s almost impossible to find fresh produce from Southern Europe. What I can advise is to cook as much as possible at home and to do sport to lift your mood and give you some discipline which is important if you want to stay healthy. Uk lifestyle standards are declining more and more in general so we have to find some good reasons to cling on and not get depressed here 😂😅

The cleaning habit is one that stood out when I visited Japan. Everyday when I left my AirBnb and entered the train station entrance at Tochomae Station there were people cleaning the elevators, stairs etc. Random people at the streets picked up trash. Or when I visited some temples or shrines they usually had something at the entrance where you could wash your hands. And even washing the hands was in a very calming way (with wooden cups).

I read this book called Ikigai and what was fascinating is how people who live on Okinawa island were super-centenarians (lived 100+ years) because of healthy habits such as in this video. Diet, exercising (not strenuously but consistently) and tight-knit community is what kept these people going! It seems Japanese people also find their purpose and meaning in life (ikigai) which makes them happy. And happy is healthy, vice versa :)

Love it. I have incorporated two. Matcha and Japanese breakfast, with rice and Natto, miso soup and other dishes. But I would like to add other habit: sleeping on the floor. For me there are four reasons that makes it healthy: 1. It is good for your back. And if your back is ok the rest of your body will be better. 2. You have to get up from the floor. So you continue doing this exercise even if you are very old. 3. You do exercise when you tidy your futon up. I was sleeping three weeks in a traditional futon in Japan, and they are pretty heavy. I have to use my two arms and force to take it up from the floor. 4. When your futon is in the cupborard, you have free space in your room and that is relaxing, to see not too much things over there.

I love sleeping on the floor; I have been doing this for about 7 years. I have all levels of back pain, and it almost always happens when we add a thin cushion ( the last we got was a futon cushion with organic bamboo and copper interwoven) and while the dreaming was wild and intense, the sleeping was less and the pain was incredibly increased. Remove the futon, sleep on 1-2 blankets, and I can spring out of bed at 4:45 am with my roosters. Happy to see so many people participating in these basic rules of Earth living.

To me, cleaning demonstrates respect; not only for the item but also indirectly for the person doing the cleaning. It relates to a self-respect and developing an appreciation for the things around you. In turn it can lead to less consumerism and a wholistic approach to caring for not only oneself, but for everything around you.

In Spain we don't get up early and sleep a lot and have one of the longest lifespans. Most of these healthy tips have to be taken in another context. Don't need to take a bath just shower daily, don't drink matcha but have abundant liquids, you don't need a Japanese diet but a healthy one, You can substitute hiking for any form of exercise, cleaning is non restrictive and exercise and hiking are redundant but maybe being around nature or tending to a garden can give you peace. Overall great tips and applicable anywhere in the world.

I have been to Spain and love the more relaxed lifestyle. Getting up at 8, cafe breakfast. Work 10 - 2, siesta time. Return to work 4 - 6, then home. Get ready for a street side cafe meal at 8 and enjoy the Mediterranean diet, tapas is my favorite. Both the Japanese and Spanish lifestyles are relaxing and healthy in their own ways. What they have in common is the lack of unwanted stress due to a familiar peaceful routine.

I loved this list of healthy Japanese Habits! I had the good fortune to visit Japan for three weeks in 2007. I got to stay with a family. And my favorite part was the soaking tubs. In America we can’t save our bathwater because we don’t have a separate shower to clean before using the bath. In this way we could save a lot of water. My dream is to someday have a Japanese style bathroom with the hand shower and stool to wash off and a big soaking tub where I can save the water for my husband and myself to reuse, Because we go into the tub we are already clean first. We tend to bed first thing in the morning in America. Which means that you go to bed dirty. The bath also relaxes you before bed and helps you to have a restful sleep. I would like to know more about your daily cleaning. What time do you do it? How long does it take. One thing I think is very nice about Japanese homes is that people take their shoes off. I think it keeps the house so much cleaner. But my husband does not want to take his shoes off when he comes in. He does not want to wear slippers. It’s OK I love him. It just means our floors are more dirty faster.
@india32852 жыл бұрын
I would like to point out that not all American homes are built the same way, nor do the people have the same habits. I know plenty of people who have a separate tub and shower. Most of us also shower in the morning to refresh, wake up, and start our work day and bath at night to relax first and then wash before bed. I put shoe covers by the door so that people can wear them over their shoes when they come in. We only wear shoes across the hard floors and not the carpeted areas. A swiffer wet jet may help you clean your floors daily to keep it clean if he refuses to remove his shoes. I would do it at night after everyone is gone to bed. That way, you know that no more traffic is going across the floors until the next day. And then once a week actually mop the floors.

It also strengthens the neurological connection between the mind and body, which is part of why it’s often effective at helping people with post traumatic stress disorder. Besser Van Der Kolk talks about this pretty frequently.

As I was watching this video I remembered my experience of working as a councelor in a tourist camp for kids where we woke up early surrounded by river and mountains, breathing fresh air, exercising in the morning, serving breakfast together, doing daily territory clean up after the breakfast and going hiking. This was a truly rich life. I think daily cleanups are super healthy for the mind and space, sometimes it requires a hell lot of a discipline in the beginning, but then it becomes natural. This practice brings fulfilment = dopamine = healthy drive to start a day.

The Japanese smart people as I can see. The healthy lifestyle they live is probably the best style in the world. I guess this is because they live far away from the mainlands in their beautiful islands, that's why they have their own well-structured culture and habits in everything. It shows that globalism doesn't bring anything good to the humans as a whole (apart from the connection between us and the ability to buy any thing quick enough, that's it), and a small group of people or little nations still have better health, better habits, more colorful culture, and they certainly enjoy life more fully. But it's just my humble opinion. Thanks for the video. 👍

The bath - I take a hot bath every day before work to feel relaxed and happy. On the days I don't work I may take a bath, or I go to the sports club and take a sauna and a shower. So every day I use water to relax and cleanse my body. It always improves my mood. I exercise every day too. I don't eat Japanese food - it is too hard to prepare and too expensive to go out to eat. I eat fruits, vegetables, and some meat. I walk, but not enough. I have a physical job though so I am on my feet at work. I need to clean more...and I will start drinking matcha.

I grew up cleaning my own room and classrooms until I graduated from high school. I always thought I am not as clean as my mom. My mom is such a minimalist and our house is always clean when she was raising 3 children and lived with my dad’s parents for a long time. After I moved to Canada, I kept the house clean with the bare minimum effort as I didn’t feel like it’s my home. Now that I have been living here for 11 hours. I take more care of my house. I like watching house organizing tips and hacks and would love to apply for maximum use of limited space. I love how disciplined Japanese people. Always clean and respectful ♥️

This made me notice how long it's been since I last took a bath... I'd love to do it at least once a week as a form of self care and relaxation, but my mom expects me to be out of bathroom in like 15 mins so showering is the only option EDIT: 24.11.2022. I'm currently taking my first bath of the year lol And let me tell you The moment I sat down in warm water I felt different It was so nice I can deff see how doing this every once in a while would make you more relaxed (warm baths=relaxation=less stress=healthier looking skin+hair+nails=youthful look)

I really like your videos, Aki. It is as if I was walking in Japan itself. I have always appreciated Japanese culture, food, history, wabi sabi, literature, cinema and drama (Noh and Kabuki). Oh yes, I also appreciate you! どうもありがとうございます! I'm also studying Japanese because one of my favorite Japanese writers, Shuhei Fujisawa 藤沢 周平, has only one book with his stories translated into English. His literary executors will not allow future translations, so, I learn Japanese so I can read all of his books.

Love your videos. They are so meditative and reflects Japanese culture indepth. We also have similar practices in India. We worship the Sun, wakeup early morning, sit on the floor n eat home cooked food, sleep on mats etc. But sadly these practices are forgotten due to the fast life n corporate culture. We are losing health to wealth.

I am glad that I am Japanese but also being a New York native person to get accustomed to these habits since childhood. Drinking matcha isn't my routine or part of my ritual at all but I do however drink coffee with or without a creamer for dietary purposes. Not only that but hearing the fact of getting up early in the morning to pray towards the sun is something I learned and I wish to get into (well really "hatsumimi"). Though Japan has many social problems like you and Let's Ask Shogo say, its these positive videos that makes me wanted to say having a good pride in being Japanese and who I am personally. I wish to see more videos like this soon.

I will contact her for more recipes. All the other things I can do easily. I havent located macha tea yet. I live in the Austrian mountains in Europe. Early morning I always meditate for an hour then go for half hour walk. I think a bath would be good just after that. I work from home so it should all be easy! Keep the videos coming. Thank you.
