When my grandfather died I inherited his vast cowboy boot collection. We're the same size. There's elephant, stingray, alligator, snake and other skins. Beautiful well kept boots that are comfortable. He was a GP in OK City and always wore a suit, cowboy hat and boots. A Marine as well he always looked sharp. They all fit me PERFECTLY. Also my prescription sunglasses glasses are Ray-Ban Aviators. Love them!

Cowboy culture is White culture. It was first created by Spanish people in America, who are White people, and then adopted by other White people in America who created their own unique style and variation in the American frontier. This then became White American cowboy culture.

I hope you don't mind, but I am a lady, and I find your channel utterly fascinating! I wanted to make a few observations regarding Men's suits. I do a great deal of sewing of Period Clothing, specifically, Colonial (Late 1700's-Early 1800's) and Civil War Era (1861-1865). Having studied several hundred years' worth of attire, I find that trends for Men rarely change. Generally speaking, Men do not have the same fixation as Women with their clothing. Women want to constantly change their look, their style. Men tend to be appeased with whatever and not necessarily fixated with changing the current trends. Which is why you see even see periods of a hundred years or more when Men's styles will have changed but little. The suit coats you Gents wear now, I made with very few modifications for my boys to wear to Re-enact the Civil War. (Though then it was called a "Sacque Coat"). In fact, the style is so similar, you could actually wear a modern suit coat to an Event and no one would be the wiser. If you look at the back of an American-styled suit coat, which has a single vent and having extended the sides, would be a Gentlemen's Frock Coat. If you look at the back of an English-styled suit coat, which is double-vented and having removed the sleeves, would be a Waistcoat (type of Men's vest). Everything old really is new again. Or consistant. Thank you for the great content!

My mother always mentions how certain fashion trends that were popular some 15-25 years prior are seen either making comebacks at times after some time out the limelight, or becoming popular in current times compared to back then when it was unfavorable, and vice versa. Interesting also how certain trends are set in the general population's clothing styles of choice, and by separating from said norm in turn makes you actually stand out more so, even if just 5-10 years sooner it was in fact the norm.

I think you're definitely correct in saying the T shirt is an American and not a British invention. People wore vests (undershirt, or tank top in US) here until after WW2. When a young child (in the 60s) the only time I saw them was in American films, before teenagers starting wearing them. They were never thought of as underwear here. Also parkers, they just weren't a thing here until army surplus after the Korean War when Mods started wearing them.

I still wear a union suit lol there great for winter time. And the shaft on the cowboy boot is to protect your legs, while riding, from brush and branches. Most common style during the cowboy area was the calvary boot with the pant legs tucked in and the shift went up to the knee. It was for the purpose of protection. The short shot like u have became popular by movies and more represents a Grogan than cowboy boot.

I actually just tried on my first ever suit jacket (from Target) and it still fits perfectly in the shoulder. (It was always too long.) Question is: Do I alter it for myself, or trade it to a longer guy, for his waistcoat? 🤔
@phillipj.moodie3077
@phillipj.moodie3077 3 жыл бұрын
@SansAziza. Seeing that you mentioned selling the Target jacket, because it was too long, but that it fits you across the shoulders, now that you have decided to buy a suit and are prepared to sell the one that you just purchased, can I suggest that you will get better value for your money if you use the money from that sale towards buying another suit that has the correct length for your size. I recently went to a Sale at Target where they were reducing the stock that had built up because COVID 19 slowed down sales. I bought 3 Sports Coats, 2 Blazers and 2 Suits, because I was bored with the four total COVID 19 Lockdowns that we had in Melbourne, Australia over the previous 12 months. Although the Coats were all Target brand, and all 40 Regular, they were not all made to a standard size, because Target had obviously used a variety of factories in China. But I bought all of the above clothes because both the quality of the materials and the design standards were far superior to what has been available in Australia from Target for the last 20 years. On the other hand the quality of the "House Brands" carried by the Largest Department Stores has declined to the standard now offered by Target, it appears to me that if you when shopping for a "Replacement Suit" in any of the Major Department Stores, and used the money from selling your original purchase, you will find some real bargains by looking for the "End of Season" Sales, which in a few weeks will be underway in the USA. As you already know that the most important measurement is the fit across the shoulders look for a Suit in your correct size, say 40R (Regular), then try the size that fits you best across the shoulders in other Brands carried by the Department Store. Then, by choosing only one Brand for the exercise, try on one chest size larger and one chest size smaller. Then once you have found the chest size with the best fit, then sort out the length. Why I suggest shopping for your first dress suit in a Major Department Store is because they will have the sales volume to allow them to carry every popular Brand of Suit Jacket in three Sleeve and Coat length sizes. Which are Small/Short, Medium/Regular and Long. Quality brands traditionally offered Suit Coat chest sizes in one inch increments, but now with the Department Stores selling suits made in China, in high volume, at very low prices, the Buyer has lost that choice. And because of the low cost of the suits being sold by Major Department Stores, traditional Tailors are no longer bothering altering those cheap suits to make them fit correctly, because the alterations can cost near the price of the cheap suit, If you want to look like a "Million Dollars" when you first wear your new suit, then you have to spend a lot of time selecting the best fit vailable at the point of purchase. While Dry Cleaning Shops in Malls offer a service to shorten trousers and adjust coat sleeve lengths, they are Womens Dressmakers, not Mens Tailors and there is a world of difference. But a great way to get an impressive looking wardrobe, on a shoe string budget, is to use all of the above factors to look for near new suits in Charity Shops, then spend the money you saved to buy a good pair of dress shoes, That will cost you at least $400, because there is no such creature as a "Cheap pair of good shoes". But good quality shoes can be fully or partially resoled and with a full resole they will last 20 years, and always be comfortable. Phil.

Regarding the button down shirt, many men don't realize that there is one rule about wearing them - simple - NEVER wear a button down shirt with a suit ( the jacket and trousers made from the same identical matching fabric) this simple rule also applies to shoes - simple - NEVER wear slip on or loafer style shoes with a suit - only lace up dress shoes will do - I see men making these two mistakes all the time and it is a bit annoying but I'm a detail guy when it comes to men's clothing

As R M Williams famous boots are back in control of the original Australian company, and are still made in Adelaide perhaps you should buy a pair the next time you visit Australia. They are not cheap but until the company was bought by an international fashion company they were worn on every Cattle Station. They will last at least 20 years and the Adelaide office provides a popular rebuilding service, because after 20 years the upper of your boot will fit your foot like a glove. There are dress versions, which in the country towns in Australia are called Wedding Boots. R M Williams was a real tough character and made the boot upper from a single piece of leather. Which is why in the Outback they are the favourite work boot. Phil.

Side note of t shirt. With the release of "It happened one Night", Then Clark gable took off his shirt in front of Claudette Colbert, he wasn't wearing a t shirt, sales fell and the Fruit of the Loom was panicking

What I am interested in, personally, is how fashion seems to trend ever-more-casual, and how fashion also seems, for men, to be stagnating, with male fashion locking into drab colors and the suit/jacket combo for formal occasions. Yes, tuxedos are a different cut/style, but they're still in the same "family" as any other suit. Women's fashion seems to always be exploring new ground and trying radically different cuts, color combinations, etc. That isn't a complaint, mind; I like seeing women dressed up nicely! And allegedly women like seeing men in suits. But I do wonder how formalwear evolves, how style changes _direction_ (e.g. from ever-more-casual back to something that has more formality). For instance, men used to wear at least blazers and shirt-and-tie with slacks to office jobs, even back when my Dad was working. My generation, I and all of my colleagues in a perfectly-respectable engineering company wear whatever long pants we want, and polo shirts, no ties. We're not to the point where sandals and shorts with t-shirts are acceptable, but the trajectory is definitely more that direction than the other way. Again, this isn't necessarily a complaint, but rather just a question of how trends work. And I mean "trend" in the statistical sense more than the fashion sense, here. What might cause a reversal of the direction in how formal clothing is in various situations? What might cause men's fashion to start breaking out into more diverse designs, or at least a more diverse basis for designs?
