In this brief video you can find seven little known facts about Oman.
More information about the video content bellow:
1. Oman is the oldest independent state in the Arab world. It has been ruled by the Al-Said family since 1744. Oman is also one of the oldest human-inhabited places on Earth. Humans have lived in what is now known as Oman for at least 106,000 years and the city of Dereaze is at least 8,000 years old.
2. Oman is traditionally known for breeding Arab horses. Historically it has been famous for its purebred Arab horses. Omani people believe that the horse is an image of its master and a reflection of his courage, stamina and ability. It is believed that Zaad AL-Rakeb was the first horse to be known in Arabia and to which all the Arab progeny horses were tracked back. It belonged to the Uzd, the old members of the Arab Uzd tribe of Oman. It was said to be given to them as a gift by the Prophet Solomon Son of David
3. Oman is the only Middle East country where women-only bazaars, called ‘souq’, are found. The Omani City of Ibra has a women-only bazaar, where the Omani women trade in everything from spices to handicraft to jewellery. It is a complete shopping hub for female travelers, where men are forbidden to hang around.
4. Do you know why Oman is so white? It is because no official permission is required to paint homes white. People need to seek special permission to use other colors. Besides, the administration checks everything from foundation to painting several times when a house is under construction.
5. The architectural heritage of Oman consists of more than 500 forts, castles and watch towers. Oman’s urban infrastructure from residential buildings to seafront whitewashed resorts is immensely influenced by the Indian architectural style seen in the high society.
6. Before 1970, there were no hotels in Oman. Since the late 1980s, when the government opened the country to tourists, hundreds of luxurious hotels have been built. Tourism is a growing industry in Oman. In the most recent available numbers in 2013, it was reported that 2.1 million tourist visited Oman.
7. The 2nd-century geographer Ptolemy mentioned a ‘concealed harbour’, perhaps the first documented reference to the capital of Oman, Muscat, but the settlement’s location, surrounded on three sides by mountains, made it all but inaccessible from the land. Little is known about the early days of Muscat, except that it grew into a small port in the 14th and 15th centuries. By the beginning of the 16th century, however, Muscat gathered momentum as a trading port in its own right, used by merchant ships bound for India.

I had nearly 5 years living and working in Oman in the 80s and 90s. It was a shame work interfered with my social life, lol, as the people and the country provided me with never - to - be - forgotten memories. Most of my off duty time was spent below the waves Scuba Diving. Best diving I'd ever experienced. Diversity of life was extraordinary; such as the "Dhofar Clown Fish" seen only in these waters near Salalah. Lots of "nasties" in the waters as well, but generally not a problem as long as you stick to safety rules. To live there and enjoy the country you really needed transport, such as a decent 4x4. Well worth a visit. I only hope Tourism doesn't spoil this unique country. Rule of thumb when we went camping/diving was, don't throw waste away, bag it and take it to somewhere it can be disposed of properly. I had the privilege of meeting Sultan Qaboos Al Said 3 times in the course of my work and he was a very honourable and pleasant person, who will no doubt be forever remembered. May he Rest in Peace.

Oman is definitely in fact a sea civilization and ethnically openminded, the country's architecture such as the common house reminds me of those house in the anime known as "One Piece". That's due to the country in fact being reminiscent of a harbour. Not a fishing one, entirerly. It doesn't strictly recalls of Arab nation, that's because it's still a Preislamic and *Arabian (Not Arabic)* in heart which is actually in fact uniquely revealed by its vibrantly thriving colours, architectural style and unrelated-to-Arab clothing patterns. The ethnic inhabitants are *Arabians* that undegone Arabization and Islamization however due Oman's significantly distant location it was difficult for Arabs to full-scale arabize them.

Oman’s Snowden. Political documentary about Oman The only political documentary film about Oman kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4u7hJ95gdOUetk The investigative documentary film addresses the social and human rights struggle after the crackdown on demonstrators during the 2011 protests in the Sultanate of Oman. Oman, which was described by The Economist as the world’s most charming police state seems to have many hidden political secrets. The film follows Oman’s first internet blogger, poet, writer and human rights activist Muawiyah Alrawahi, and poet and activist Habiba Alhanai. Alrawahi disappeared on the 24th of February 2015 during a trip to the neighboring country United Arab Emirates (UAE). His disappearance was politically motivated and was most likely a joined effort between the UAE and the Omani intelligence services. He was detained for about 16 months at the notorious Al Wathba prison in Abu Dhabi. He was subjected to torture and ill-treatment and was placed with pirates, terrorist suspects, and criminals. His crime was his internet blogging, human rights activities, and defending other Omani activists. Al-Rawahi's testimony addresses the political situation in Oman prior to his kidnapping by the UAE. The film was shot two weeks after Muawiyah Alrawahi was released from prison in the United Arab Emirates. Three months after the shooting of the film, Muawiyah Alrawahi was again targeted by the Omani intelligence service - fearing for his life he fled to the UK and is now a political refugee living underground. This documentary is a film of two parts. The second part is based on interviews with author Abdullah Habib, Said AlHashimi, Mohamed AlYahyai, and political refugees in Europe like Mohamed AlFazari, Nabhan AlHanshi, Mohamed AlHarithy and Khalfan AlBadwawi.

The "act" is illegal and can result in up to 6 months in prison. But as long as there are no witnesses then there isn't a problem. I'm from Oman and the sins you commit in private are none of my business, I'll still treat you like anyone else and you are still very welcome here. But for everyone's benefit, don't show your homosexuality in public.

Why would you say that? Now there are many malls which r enough for the small amount of population in Oman in fact more than enough.... Many tourist attractions but if u want Oman to be Like, say Dubai then that's not possible at the moment 🇴🇲😂. I lived in Oman for 15 years which is basically my age lol then i shifted to Dubai with my Family. Indians are very hardworking, they are one of the reasons why Oman is becoming more and more successful ✌️🇴🇲❤️.
