Hopefully we all start embracing our responsibilities as citizens. So timely Simon.

Lovely talk, and kudos to Simon - an old friend, an associate, a fellow Northerner, and a fellow graduate of the NHS Management Training Scheme (that we both benefitted from and that helped to make us caring and committed activists for good). Simon helped to set me on the right path to help my son Jordan, now 30, achieve all of those goals, through In-Control and Self Directed Support and so I owe him a huge personal debt of love, respect, and support. Thanks! If I had a quibble, I would include Family. Yes love is important, but it is not synonymous with family. Family also includes concepts of loyalty, conflict, and duty - and when I speak to my son, who has a learning disability, he totally understands this distinction. I know 8 is not such a nice number as seven, and I know some people lack a family, 👨👨👧👦but I think Family is missing from the ring! Family is the most powerful ring of all - it binds us solemnly - it controls all else: Family is the key missing element. How about it, Simon?

Lovely presentation - totally resonates with my experience over the last 8 years with the Love Sheffield community. Our time is coming. 🦋❤️🌊

Thank you, Simon, for your powerful TEDx talk. The Keys to Citizenship model is such a meaningful way to think about how the lives of people with intellectual disabilities can be improved. As a mother, it helps me stay grounded in what really matters for my son and guides me to focus on the things that will truly lead to a better life for him as a citizen. Whenever the challenges of staying focused on what makes a difference for parents and their children in my work get the better of me, your words and this model recharge me. The Keys to Citizenship is not just a framework-it’s real, grounding, and life-changing. Thank you, Simon, and Nicola, for this impactful work.

thanks so much Sylvana - this is exactly what I was dreaming this would help with - love is the key to everything - but we need to understand that the goal of our love is citizenship x

Thank you for these 7 keys to citizenship talk, Simon! This is exactly why I prefer to insist that the C in ABCD relates to Citizenship - Asset-Based Citizen-led Development

"We give each other the gift of citizenship whenever we see and treat each other as equals" - Simon Duffy. Changing the world always feels a bit easier when I think about the Keys to Citizenship. The talk could only have been improved by the use of the word 'groovy'.

I know - I was a bit over rehearsed (an unusual thing for me to have to rehearse a talk) - it reduced my grooviness a little

My daughter and I were discussing what would happen if there were no country borders. Maybe we would start taking responsibilities for all citizens worldwide. We couldn't just shut the gate and say "Not my problem."
@SimonDuffy-m5mАй бұрын
Yes - borders have been a dangerous and unnatural invention - but we don't need to have them in our minds

Unfortunately I know exactly what would would happen, having travelled extensively in less well-off parts of the world. We would be totally overwhelmed by migrants. We could not cope. Everyone I speak to in West Africa wants an end to their poverty, and they all want to come here.
