@@wynstansmom829 INFP & ENFP are quite similar. From what I understand the difference is that I, as an INFP, lead with introverted feeling (Fi), while ENFP's lead with extroverted intuition (Ne). This causes INFP to be mainly focussed on their internal world (mostly feelings, values, opinions ect) while ENFP are focussed on the external world (mainly possibilities, different options). I'd say an ENFP is the epitome of openmindedness and creative possibilities. Now, they still are very similar, because our auxilary function is the others' primary function: INFP has extroverted intuition (Ne) while ENFP has introverted feeling (Fi). ENFP & INFP have the same approach to their inner world and the same way of connecting to the external world. The main difference is what they focus on mostly. Hope that helps. :)

The functions are pretty irrelevant. They are arbitrary combinations of the dimensions and mostly relate to how "masculine" or "feminine" a type seems.
@bafbaas1210
@bafbaas1210 5 жыл бұрын
@@thewiseturtle What? I don't think that's right. It has to do with distinguishing the way your mind operates in a more specific way. I found it to be much more convincing as it didn't really match with stereotypes, it was more the natural way your personality comes out.
@thewiseturtle
@thewiseturtle 5 жыл бұрын
The official MBTI book, Gifts Differing, basically dismisses the "functions" as not important, and my own research has shown that they are pretty arbitrary. The actual MBTI is focused on what I see as the four primary regions of the brain, as they evolved in humans, with the preferences in each dimension being controlled by natural (genetic) hormone levels in that region. Introvert/Extravert is low/high levels of dopamine in the motor cortex Sensing/iNtuiting is low/high levels of estrogen in the limbic system Feeling/Thinking is low/high levels of testosterone in the neocortex Judging/Perceiving is low/high levels of serotonin in the prefrontal cortex And the four dimensions cover the four perspectives that we humans can potentially model reality in: first person (me), second person (you), third person (our larger group/environment), and fourth person (the whole universe).

I'm an INFP! And you are the complete opposite of my type as an ESTJ! It was interesting to see how you presented about MBTI! I could see a lot of similarities in the way we think probably because we have the same cognitive functions, just in reverse order! I really admire how you were able to present your material in a clear way and get down to business in a decisive way! If I did this same talk, I probably would have made it 10-20 minutes longer with side tangents from the original material and interesting stories from my past haha! That's just me xD I can see that you have the same thought process as me, that you like to explore new ideas around you and that you have a lot of curiosity, but you see it less in you than in me because you use sensing more than I do! So I admire that you were so present in the moment when you were speaking! I'm usually in my own little world and sometimes teachers have thought in the past that I am not listening when I really am, I'm just looking around everywhere around me and not at them, so they think I'm not listening to them! Thank you for this TED talk! I really enjoyed it! And I think you did a great job! I love the thing you did at the end with the clapping xD that was great haha!

She made a comment that MBTI is about preferences. My coworker's 9 year old son said something so profound months ago that I'm still in shock at his wisdom. When he grabbed a piece of my sushi on my plate at lunch and I said to him, "You're mom doesn't like sushi." He said, and I'm quoting verbatim, "People like what they like." I was speechless. Until recently, (I'm 36 and Southern and INFP) I thought if people disagreed, they didn't like each other. Hard way to live your life. I thought, "What freedom this young boy has." Genius.

I found it interesting that as an ST the speaker was drawn to MBTI looking for practical results. I'm an NF and it really helped me understand the differences between my parents and myself. Ultimately if something is strong and universal ...which this has to be in order to cover all the types...it by definition has something for everyone. However I think that N types just enjoy learning something like this in order to understand it while S types are likely to dive in only if they are motivated by a specific goal.

SUMMARY: MBTI personality preference pairs: 1) Where we direct & receive energy: a) Extrovert - Like to direct energy outside, and it bounces back to them. - Think that silence is a space to be filled. - Might think interruption as a compliment: someone is listening and building further ideas from their idea. - If you want to know what an extrovert is thinking, you haven't listened. b) Introvert - Like to direct energy inside, to generate more energy from within. - Think that silence is a space to be cherished. - Assume interruption as rudeness, because they have to analyze the interruption & think how to response. - If you want to know what an introvert is thinking, you haven't asked. 2) Data gathering & information we like and trust a) Sensing - Like things to be practical, actual, real. b) Intuition - Like possibilities, meaning, the big picture. 3) The way we make decisions: a) Thinking - When people come with problem, they want to solve them. - They step back from the decision. - They look at the data/information in an objective/logical way. - They look at the pros and cons, then make decisions. b) Feeling - When people come with problem, they tend to listen instead of directly solve the problem. - They step into the decision. - They consider: * How the decision is going to impact people. * How the decision is fit with their value system. What the speaker said is nothing new, but she explained it in a simple and easy to understand way. Before listening to her, I never really understand the pair preference beyond E-I. I know my type (INFP) because I have taken the MBTI tests before (twice, with similar results!), but I didn't quite grasp the remaining 3 pairs until now. Thank you very much, Jean🙏

@AlexBermann
@AlexBermann 3 жыл бұрын
@@NRX25 Psychology just has another angle of inquiry. A big part of psychology is how to accurately measure behaviour, but the problem with that is that linking behaviour to traits is problematic. That's part of why the big five are often considered the gold standart - they are descriptive of relatively easy to measure traits without providing much of an explanation or a prediction of behavioural preferences. The MBTI remains popular in popular culture and in practical application because it makes those predictions. This also makes it problematic as that can mean reducing a person to 4 letters. Then, there is the mess with the functions. The description of the functions is very vague and a lot of assumptions about them have been disproven. So, the main development in the debate about things around MBTI are Keirseys temperaments which basically is a slightly less complex big five model. Socionomics go in a similar direction as MBTI and elaborated the functions, but they aren't as present in the English speaking community. Many things you see about the MBTI today are people who include their own conjecture and experience in a system that is scientifically stagnant. I can see the MBTI making a comeback in a few years when these new insights are put to a test and systematised, but this can only be due to the current debate. Meanwhile, you have people on the internet going about how they are much smarter than others because they are Intuitives or because they are thinkers and companies who fall prey to the supposedly easy prediction of how someone will perform at a job based on a test that takes maybe 20 minutes to take.

I believe that lot of the people proclaiming themselves as INTJs in this comment section aren't really INTJs. They might be an unhealthy ENTJ or an unhealthy INTP or INFP. The personality type of the INTJ is often accidentally applied to deeply introspective individuals or people with shaky self-esteem. I wouldn't rely fully on personality tests to tell you what your personality is. Saying that, I've taken the test many times over the last five years and while I always end up as an INTJ. However, I try not to let it define me. It's easy to get conceited about being something you may not even be.

INTJ's might get stuck in a loop. with dealing with pressure and end up in a loop. the Ni-Fi loop, they develop this loop as defensive mechanism and it's actually damaging and leads to depression and damage the self-esteem in the long term. anyway - give it a try in different situations to get better results, also doing your research is good for understanding. ............................ i don't like being classified this way but i admit it that it's good way of self improvement.

Looking back, I can say that if I'd known "INTP" about myself sooner, I would've made better choices and my life would likely have been very different today. I would also likely be a lot happier. BUT... I am working to make my life what I want it to be which is made all the easier knowing my strengths and weaknesses. I understand where I'm coming from when I present "who I am" to another person. I also understand that very few people are like me and that knowing yourself is necessary to help avoid being manipulated or to receive the wrath of other psychological problems some people have.

I know I am INFJ since 8 months, learn MBTI, cognitives functions and watch some video about personality types, helped and help me so much to understand all my past life, all my "traumas". Now I am able to guess personality type of people, I see the world again differently. The concrete world, the world seen with my Ni dominant, and seen with MBTI/cognitive function in head with the skill to guess people personality type, know how humans functions. Like a second power. The first is oberve/analyse people and know what wrong with them, know if they are happy or not, or what they can feel. As a natural psychologist. INFJ, we see both the details and the big picture, and our middle functions F & T are well balanced, we use our both brain left & right. Sure we all can act on the way which is not our preferences but, this cases is sometimes the one where we are under stress. That's why is better to go deeply in the topic and learn cognitives functions, to understand better and be able to guess better others personality type, and more... this MBTI/cognitives functions is an amazing ~ infinite knowledge. I love how many people do some video about it : Frank James, Love Who, Dear Kristin, Renaud Contini (more about INFJ), Bogdan Yakubets.

Us ENFPs usually are the most Introverted extraverts, we might be really active with people around and in a party get a little overcharged/overwhelmed by all the things happenin, but afterthat we need a whole lot of alone time... With our dominant function being Ne we don't really charge by spending time with people (Fe) or doing exciting/thrilling things (Se) we are more charged when we engage in Deep meaningful conversations with ourselves (Fi), or when we build up a new and interesting idea (Te) but mostly and more naturally when we start to explore and diverge in hundreds of pathways of possibilities and/or stories and sub plotlines (Ne) it is really exciting to use Ne :3 that's why Ni's need us, to paint some color in those long voids of time...
